Ga. Senate endorses bizarre anti-black conspiracy plot

Last week, the Georgia Senate gave sanction to a bizarre, destructive and racially condescending conspiracy theory. By a 33-14 vote, it approved a bill that purports to outlaw the attempted genocide of black Americans through abortion.

Under the bill’s language, a health care provider could be convicted of a felony and sentenced to up to 10 years in prison for performing an abortion “with the intent to prevent an unborn child from being born based upon the race, color, or gender of the unborn child or the race or color of either parent of that unborn child.”

The bill is inspired by a claim that abortion providers are engaged in a conspiracy to reduce the number of black children born in this country. As Georgia Right to Life has argued in billboards and other outlets, “black children are an endangered species” that need the protection of law against a campaign to eradicate them.

As proof of that campaign’s existence, Georgia Right to Life cites the fact that more than twice as many black women sought abortions in Georgia in 2008 as did white women, even though the state’s population is just 30 percent black.

They do not mention, however, that black women in Georgia also have a pregnancy rate almost twice as high as white women, according to statistics compiled by the Guttmacher Institute. Nor do they point out that the black birth rate in Georgia is about 60 percent higher than for white women.

Those numbers are hardly surprising. The high rate of out-of-wedlock births among black American teenagers represents a continuing cultural, social and economic challenge. Furthermore, liberals and conservatives alike can agree that abortion is not an acceptable solution to that problem.

The best approach is suggested by the fact that in societies around the world, pregnancy rates fall as levels of education and affluence in a community increase.

Until approval of SB 529, the dumbest legislation to pass the House or Senate this year had been a bill to outlaw forced implantation of microchips in human beings, which also passed the Senate. However, while it may rival the genocide-by-abortion bill in terms of weirdness, the microchip bill was at least largely harmless.

The abortion bill, on the other hand, puts the state Senate on record as endorsing the claim that black Americans are being targeted for elimination by health care providers. That’s absurd and flat-out wrong.

Debate over the measure reflected that absurdity. One Republican senator said it was a good thing that Barack Obama’s white mother didn’t choose to abort her pregnancy to avoid the shame of giving birth to a black baby. Sen. Tommie Williams (R-Lyons) argued that without the bill’s provisions criminalizing “coerced abortions,” we could find ourselves following the path of China, where abortions are mandated by government.

Sen. Vincent Fort, an Atlanta Democrat, detected “a whiff of mendacity if not hypocrisy” in conservative concern for black Georgians. Perhaps the most telling observation came from Sen. Hardie Davis, a black pro-life Democrat from Augusta.

“Some things,” he said, “cannot be legislated.”

(Davis was among nine senators who did not cast a vote on the final measure.)

There was a time in recent memory when the Senate was considered the more sane of the two chambers. Strange legislation usually emanated from the House and was allowed to die untouched in the more sober-minded Senate. That has clearly changed.

This year, versions of both the microchip and genocide-by-abortions bills were introduced in the House as well as Senate, but House leadership was wise enough to allow both measures to fade away unnoticed.

In the Senate, lunacy reigns.

It’s a fun job and quite challenging. I prefer people over bags. There’s something satisfying about going head-to-head with someone who’s lying to you and getting them to admit the truth. It takes practice to do it, and there are some countries who’s citizens are harder to break than others.

That’s one of the reasons I’m looking forward to the immigration debate. So many equate illegal immigrants with only those crossing the southern border. No one wants to admit we have a problem with people who enter legally and never leave or violate their visas while here. The 9/11 group all had visas to enter the US legally.

Health Care clinics don’t perform abortions. Health Care clinics don’t send out “activists” to woo 10 year old girls into killing their babies BEFORE they even have sex for the first time. Health Care clinics don’t set up shop next to crack houses in every major city. Health Care clinics perform basic health care needs like say, check ups, physicals etc..

I’ve never read or heard about poor people going to Planned Parenthood for a routine physical.

“I am convinced that children are alive very early on”

JDW – the issue isn’t whether they are alive, or not. Of course a foetus is alive. The issue is viability. Until a foetus is at the developmental stage where, if normal, it can be expected to survive on it’s own outside the womb…it is not viable. It is only a symbiote of the woman’s body, and is completely and totally dependent on her and on what happens to her body.

Until it passes that developmental stage…the choice is the woman’s and no one elses. Think of it this way, also. Both the egg and the sperm are living cells that BOTH cease to exist at the moment the egg is fertilized. The are both living cells, but no one agitates to protect THEM.

This is why, traditionally, a foetus is not considered a viable child until it takes it’s first breath. Because once it has begun breathing on it’s own, it is totally and irrevocably separated from it’s symbiotic relationship with the woman’s body.

The only problem with your theory, Jay, is that both the educational level and affluence have steadily risen in the black community since the 1960s. At the same time, the percentage of out-of-wedlock births has soared. It should be noted this concept did not spring into existence in the Georgia Legislature (altho the fact this issue has been translated to a bill takes it to a new level).

“L.E.A.R.N. Northeast is part of the Life Education And Resource Network (LEARN), a national network of Christian pro-life/pro-family advocates who are dedicated to protecting the pre-born and promoting traditional family values.

LEARN was officially established in 1993 at the African American Pro-Life Planning Conference in Houston, Texas. One of the primary goals of LEARN is to facilitate a strong and viable network of African American and minority pro-life/pro-family advocates.

Therefore, LEARN welcomes into the network all communities who support Christian values and with to ensure the survival of all races of people, and improve our quality of life without sacrificng our children.”

http://www.blackgenocide.org/who.html

You may want to look at the picture.

“Below is the resolution submitted by the Macon chapter to the NAACP Conventions over the past 4 years. It has yet to be read….

“Whereas, the abortion rights movement has long been linked to the politics of eugenicist Margaret Sager, founder of Planned Parenthood, who assisted in organizing the Negro Project, which was devised as a systematic plan for “peaceful genocide” to reduce the black population in the United States …”

http://www.blackgenocide.org/naacp-resolution.html

There are a number of such movements. Some do likely believe it’s a concerted effort targeting African Americans. I think a large part of it is the desire of pro-life groups to expand their membership and power by trying a different recruiting tactic and bringing a number of groups under one ideological umbrella.

So it’s not necessarily dumb whites or racist Republicans.

But the Georgia Legislature, again, fails to understand how to win the PR war.

Part of that is because Blacks are not getting married. I have many friends who are single in their 30’s and 40’s. Some have children too. That adds to the stats of out-of-wedlock births although they were choices made and not oops-type births.

Who Dat, thanks for the clarification. I see the problem here. You obviously have NO personal knowledge about the maintenance and care of the female reproductive system, nor any portion thereof. Nor have you ever availed yourself of the services of such a clinic, nor had an honest conversation with any of the health care providers who work there.

Because it would clearly gross you out to discuss details, I’ll keep the overview high-level: Planned Parenthood clinics provide specialized care that YOU don’t need, to people who DO. Sometimes that care comes in the form of terminating an unwanted pregnancy, but their primary function is to help women prevent such an event in their lives, and to provide health care for parts that scare you. See, for women, that kind of care IS a “routine physical.” Ask any man who actually has a woman in his life that he cares about. It’s not weird.

ahhhhhhhhh … and there’s the problem … you only know what the sidewalk screamers have told you …

first of all, the majority of PP clinics do NOT perform abortions.
Planned parenthood also provides cancer screening – both breast and cervical (19% of services), basic pap smears, STD screening (29% of its services), providing birth control (38% of its services). 10% were health services such as pregnancy / fertility testing / prenatal care.

abortions make up only 3% of its services.

If you use “viability” as a measure of moral/legal “worthiness”, then you have a changing standard every time medical science progresses. Not a very secure standard.

“Part of that is because Blacks are not getting married.”

SC–I guess that would be the obvious explanation as to the high number of out-of-wedlock marriages in the black community.

Here’s a link which scratches the surface a little:

http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/014/923fdspn.asp

From the link:

“In 1963, according to the famous Department of Labor report issued by Daniel Patrick Moynihan two years later, the out-of-wedlock birth rate among blacks was 23.6 percent while the rate among whites was only 3.07 percent. By 2005, according to the National Center for Health Statistics, the out-of-wedlock birth rate among non-Hispanic whites had jumped to 25.3 percent and the rate among non-Hispanic blacks stood at nearly 70 percent. In other words, the black out-of-wedlock birth rate was lower in 1963–on the eve of the Civil Rights Act, when Jim Crow policies were still an ugly reality in the American South and white racism was far more widespread than it is today–than the non-Hispanic white rate was in 2005.”

I hear your argument, but just like I think society has a responsibility, if possible, to help those less fortunate and those in need I tend to feel that a Mother has a responsibility to the unborn child. You are right the child is helpless and in need of care and nurturing and in 90% + of the cases I think it is the Mother’s responsibility to do so.

The moment of choice and responsibility for her body was at the moment of consensual sex. We need to do a much better job of educating our children on how to handle that moment.

Talking about bizarro world. Not unlike the use of tobacco taxes, marraige is nonconducive to a centralized state, therefore will be taxed——————

“From 1913 to 1969, married couples had an advantage when it came to income taxes. However, because of the 1948 income-splitting tax-code which many thought was unfair to singles, the law was changed in 1969. The tax raise of 1993 made matters even worse for married couples. Married folks also took a hit by some targeted tax cuts enacted in 1997.”

They’re raising them as a family unit, however they have no urge to get married. I also know people who have kids where the DNA donor is a dead-beat. I think the problem is far more complex than many want to believe, and there is no simple solution to fix it.

What has to happen is an inner-revolution of sorts. Integration did to Blacks what no amount of Jim Crow could ever do. It broke the drive for success for some. Prior to integration, Blacks were doctors, lawyers, cab drivers, and even nannies. You had the “Black Wall Street” area of Greenwood in Tulsa, OK and other areas like it. Now those things are still present, but not in the same abundance as before.

I could go on and on about this, but this isn’t the time or forum.

“We need to do a much better job of educating our children on how to handle that moment”

I wouldn’t argue that, but it’s not always a matter of consent. Plus, even the best birth control methods can fail. Plus, the woman’s circumstances, health, mental health, etc. can change.

Here’s the question I always pose, and to which I have never gotten a workable answer: if the issue is saving the lives of children, how would YOU go about FORCING a woman to carry her pregnancy to term?

But, know this also, that if you wouldn’t do that…but you WOULD punish her for her decision to abort the foetus, then you, TOO, are a “pro-choice” person…you would just reserve the right to inflict punishment on the woman for making a choice with which you disagree.

So when the Republicans agree with the sentiment shared by most Black Democrats, the Republicans are attacked like this.

I guess the democrats are really particular about who is allowed on that plantation. Looks like your plantation population is starting to see how it works.

I haven’t seen people describe abortion as genocide until recently in the news. Most people I know are silently pro-life but refuse to get involved with the politics and posturing of the protest groups. At the same time, we don’t castigate those who choose to end their pregnacies either.

Nope, just sinking to your level. You threw stones so I threw an anvil. Nice try on trying to play the victim. Throw stones and cry uncle. No, that’s not the best I can come up with, but if I did I’d probably get banned.

“and, as for africa, where RAPE is endemic and myths have been created that raping younger and younger virgins will cure AIDS, you’re comparing apples and chalkboards.”

Yep, every single case of AIDS is due to rape….. Facts and data please. Aids has been around in Africa for decades and NOT because of rape alone.

Thanks for that Withers tune. I thought about you the other day at work. We were talking about different groups and somebody brought up BT Express. I kinda chuckled and was singing their music the rest of the day. If you have TV1, they have a series that comes on Monday nights that’s like behind the music. I got the chance to see their piece on Rose Royce and part of one they did on Sylvester. It comes on at 9pm.

SC–Greatly appreciate your intelligent debate. It’s a shame so many here have nothing to offer other than mindless insults.

The breakdown of the family is across the board, of course, but the concentration in the black community has been devastating in terms of child poverty. I agree with you that the statistics may be somewhat skewed by folks living together without signing any papers, but it is still way out of whack.

Any one else here have anything to add?

“I wouldn’t argue that, but it’s not always a matter of consent”

If consent to sex was not present then I think the choice should be entirely up to the woman involved.

“if the issue is saving the lives of children, how would YOU go about FORCING a woman to carry her pregnancy to term?”

As I said earlier, given the way our society has evolved it would be almost impossible to completely end the practice. However, we should be able to educate our people that abortion should not be considered as an option except in the most dire of circumstances. To fix this issue we need to stop both sides from beating on their chests and agree that the practice is not a preferable solution and work to minimize it. If the practice should ever become illegal then it is not a question of force, it is a question of obeying the law or suffering the consequences.

“But, know this also, that if you wouldn’t do that…but you WOULD punish her for her decision to abort the fetus, then you, TOO, are a “pro-choice” person…you would just reserve the right to inflict punishment on the woman for making a choice with which you disagree”

So long as the practice is legal there should be not punishment. Should the practice ever become illegal then appropriate punishment should be involved. At the point the practice is illegal then it is not a decision which I disagree it is a violation of the law.

Went to Oahu last week. Spent an entire day at Pearl Harbor. Teared up many times and especially when I went to see the Arizona. Watched a video of a few Vets who were there fighting the day Pearl Harbor was bombed. Something I’ll always be proud of visiting. I stood where the Japanese surrendered and walked all around the Missouri. Toured the Bowfish and spent a lot of time taking pictures of everything. I hold veterans in the highest regard and thank them when I see them. In airports, out and about or elsewhere.
