The pilot who flew a private plane into an IRS office in Austin, Texas has been identified by federal officials as Joseph Stack.
A man using that name has also posted a lengthy diatribe against the IRS and the U.S. government. Our fellow Cox newspaper, the Austin American-Statesman, has posted the full rant on its website. Here are its concluding paragraphs:
“I know I’m hardly the first one to decide I have had all I can stand. It has always been a myth that people have stopped dying for their freedom in this country, and it isn’t limited to the blacks, and poor immigrants. I know there have been countless before me and there are sure to be as many after. But I also know that by not adding my body to the count, I insure nothing will change. I choose to not keep looking over my shoulder at “big brother” while he strips my carcass, I choose not to ignore what is going on all around me, I choose not to pretend that business as usual won’t continue; I have just had enough.
I can only hope that the numbers quickly get too big to be white washed and ignored that the American zombies wake up and revolt; it will take nothing less. I would only hope that by striking a nerve that stimulates the inevitable double standard, knee-jerk government reaction that results in more stupid draconian restrictions people wake up and begin to see the pompous political thugs and their mindless minions for what they are. Sadly, though I spent my entire life trying to believe it wasn’t so, but violence not only is the answer, it is the only answer. The cruel joke is that the really big chunks of shit at the top have known this all along and have been laughing, at and using this awareness against, fools like me all along.
I saw it written once that the definition of insanity is repeating the same process over and over and expecting the outcome to suddenly be different. I am finally ready to stop this insanity. Well, Mr. Big Brother IRS man, let’s try something different; take my pound of flesh and sleep well.
The communist creed: From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.
The capitalist creed: From each according to his gullibility, to each according to his greed.
Joe Stack (1956-2010)
Why does this all seem so familiar?

I see that more people are tuning in to American Idol than to the Olympics. What does that say about the viewing audience. Does it indicate that most people interested in watching the olympics just went there to watch it live or that most people that watch TV prefer something like lousy singers over watching someone slide down a hill or what. Surveys! Their true message can be rather difficult to decipher. Perhaps that is precisely what makes them so popular. You can make them say whatever you want to hear.

Had to reboot. When I came back I reread your post and your 7:14 and think what you were saying is, Beck said people who wear Che images are like Nazis. Not that people who think Che was like the Nazis are demented. Is that correct?
I then did a quick search and could find nothing to substantiate your assertion. I went to his web site and found an article by Jonah Goldberg in which he wrote about people who wear images of certain evil dictator types as fashion statements, and how the Left, particularly, will blast certain symbols (swastika) but embrace others (Che’s image, the hammer and sickle). But I couldn’t find what you asserted.
Cuban Revolutionaries or not, fighting a dictator or not, AFTER the takeover they instituted a reign of terror and murdered scores. You’re okay with that, it seems. I’m not. So I’m not okay with glorifying them,
And you were doing so well until you got to the ice melting stuff. You’ve read my thoughts on that – your desire to use zingers in such an inappropriate way really weakens credibility.
Hey josef
Silly or not (as I said, he grates on me) I do like accuracy. It’s like someone saying they don’t like a person because they’re obviously a fascist communist who admirers murders because they’re wearing a Che shirt. Are they wearing a Che shirt? Yes. Are they as described? Probably not.
And what is it with the Left and personal attacks and all the making fund of peoples’ names? Are their arguments that weak, their intellect so limited that the best they can do is playground taunts?

Interesting link on Google. Seems like black farmers will be the recipients of over 1.25B dollars in reparations for failure of the government to grant them loans equivilant to what other farmers were granted. It involves thousands of people and the average person is to get up to 50K and some can qualify for “settlements” for up to 250K. Eric Holder and Bozo seem to feel that this is something that is overdue and appropriate. Nothing like taking care of your own.

The mere fact that y’all have spent more than half this thread trying to pigeonhole this guy into a Left/Right faction shows that all of y’all need to step back, take a deep breath, and read about something other than government or politics. The guy was pi$$ed off. It doesn’t matter whether he was Liberal, Republican, Jesuit, Martian, or anything else. It’s a sad indicator of our supposed “free” society that we need to place labels on people in order to make ourselves feel important.
I feel bad for that guy’s family, especially the child. No child should have to grow up with that kind of burden on his/her shoulders. The actions of this guy will follow that child forever. That child may end up seeing all the crap that people are writing/posting/saying about his/her dad. It’s wrong, and everyone who’s participating in the label making is fu*ked up in the head to join in on it. Think about what your family would have to go thru if you did something like that.
It’s bad when someone feels like they have no recourse for problems they’re facing. I pray for him, his family, and anyone who’s been affected by this incident. As for you label makers, I pray that you find some humanity before something tragic befalls you or your loved ones.

I tuned in to him when a while back, like you, just to see what the whooplah was all about. I guess I should have listened to him on radio rather than watch him on tv. I didn’t find what he had to say any more or any less didactic than anything else making the rounds left or right. The antichrist he ain’t. Like Limbaugh and Pelosi, he’s a bit too animated to be taken too seriously. I expect all three of them to break out the pom-poms at any minute.
As for making fun of people’s names–I’m guilty of that one myself…but what intrigues me is the nature of that burlesque. I’m not out to stir that stink here since it would, as I’ve learned, serve no useful purpose, but I think you get my drift….

Thanks for the insight. I’m speaking more of people who do it almost reflexively, and more particularly, who do it to the near exclusion of making an argument.
I did hear Beck say he’s no great intellect, not a deep thinker, just a guy with observations and questions who hearkens back to what he understands are the fundamentals upon which this country was founded. Fair enough. Plenty there to take exception with. But… and this has been my point for the last little while, regarding him or anyone else: when so much exists upon which to take exception or a different point of view, there is no need to misrepresent or make things up!

I got called out for some of my names for the President. They referred to his policies and not the man per se. When I did fall into the trap, Doggone called me on it and I admitted that she was right and I have tried to avoid it since. I did make the point, though, that I do refer to him as President Obama 1) when making reference to the man holding the office and, 2) when I agree with what he is saying or doing. President Obama addressed the nation’s schoolchildren. Ima Gonna two steps on DADT, DOMA, etc. I know that may sound like hair-splitting to some, but, well, it’s my own way of expressing the respect for the man and the office and the man and his actions in that office…

That was the basis for the “ice melting when it gets cold” reference. Just a little more FYI on your tame libertarian. That I recognize and it’s not that to which I was referring. “Ima Gonna” and that other name are your own constructs that symbolize what he has or has not done. I was speaking of just doing a play on a name, such as was done with talk show entertainers today, or a party, such as “Republicants” or whatever or “Dimocrats’ or whatever.
I like hair splitting. And nuance. It’s an enjoyable way to torment others!

That’s an interesting perception. I see Jenifer as a newbie who came on and posted attack after attack and rarely stayed on topic (she was warned today by Jay) or offered any evidence or support for her accusations.
Who else here, on either side, does that to such a degree? Most everybody will respond to a request for clarification. Her style strikes me as a regression to what this blog saw too much of a few years back.
I’ve heard Beck’s comments on global warming. I do not agree with him. Enough on that?
Regarding Hannity: my impression (subject to revision) is Beck believes what he says, while Hannity… well, whatever shocks and gets audience and makes money is fair game.

98% of you blogging on here are either very uneducated or non-christian people they way you throw such vicious uncaring words at this man. I am very proud of the way he showed his honesty in trying to pay his “honest” share of taxes owed. He obviously made sure he dotted the I’s and crossed the T’s in all he did. You can tell he is a very highly educated person who would put most of you to shame for intellegence levels. I just hope God forgives his actions and allows him into heaven. He is 100% dead on with his comments and research he did. It’s just too bad there are so many dumbed down give a crap less Americans on this blog who most likely pay no taxes. Grow up, this government is taking everyone for a ride. You’ll be lucky with this administration if you have any freedoms left after 3 more years. Laugh and call names all you want, but I salute this man. He was not a coward to take his life. I would say it takes a pretty determined and brave person to pull something like this. A coward runs away from everything, he confronted it bravely. If you wouldn’t take a bullet to protect your family, then you are a true “coward”. The only cowards I see here are all doing the name calling. I see no compassion or remorse, just name calling. To me that is disturbing. Is this what our country is coming to? No more feelings for anyone? We are becoming so callous and unscathed at what goes on anymore it is totally scary. This nation is spiraling out of control with reality shows, immorrality, etc. It will be the rednecks who end up saving this country, just like it has always been done since our founding fathers made our great nation. Government and unions will be the final straw that broke the camel’s back. It will happen,,,, just when?

The black farmer settlement is one that I have been following. This is a one of those “things” which speaks to having no friends at all. The black farmer could not get a loan at the bank as easily as his white peer and, when he went to his black leadership asking for assistance, had to run head-on into the urban black disdain for the farmer rooted in some warped idee fixe that farming was not “acceptable,” that the “country people” were a holdover from something they had “escaped.”

Amanda sez it better than I can manage:
I wish I could say with certainty that the whole world, including the right wing nuts, will not look to Stack as a hero and an inspiration, but I can’t. Unfortunately, he performed this deed in a part of the country that’s thick with crazy conspiracy theorists, militia types, and extreme right wing nuts. I mean, for f—’s sake, I’ll bet Alex Jones has a conspiracy theory about how the government is covering this up somehow and Stack was innocent or something like that by tomorrow. People like this go beyond thinking the government mishandled the David Koresh situation and go straight into acting like Koresh was some kind of hero. They lionize Randy Weaver, who to my mind was a nasty piece of work who deliberately provoked a confrontation with the government that got his wife and son killed. The Oklahoma federal building bombing was orchestrated on the anniversary of the Waco shootings, if you’ll recall. So while Stack may prove to be unaligned with any radical groups, he was sending a signal. And unfortunately, it’s a signal they want to hear. So yes, it was terrorism. And even if the President won’t call it that, I’m sure the FBI is going to be monitoring how militant right wing groups react to this attack very carefully.

Joe Stack was NOT anti-government; he was anti-corrupt government. May he finally rest in peace.

If it gets you more $$$ and puts you in a position to make sure the things that you didn’t like done to you aren’t done to others, then as Bosch would say, ‘it’s all good.’

Let’s hope you’re right. I hate to get punked on the parody posters – it will make me sleep better tonight to think that you are right about that one.

angie–Take a moment and read the man’s entire manifesto:
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2010/0218102stack1.html
There’s nothing noble or heroic about what he is complaining about. The man had difficulty managing his money, and tried to defraud the government on several occasions. He blames everyone but himself for his failures.

Right now it’s the same $$, but less restrictions on the fine art of whoop@ss. I just hope I don’t have to open any cans, because if I do, then the proverbial poop has really hit the fan.

“it will make me sleep better tonight to think that you are right about that one.”
I was being tongue-in-cheek in hoping it was a parody piece. It wasn’t, from my estimation.
As I stated on Wednesday morning, in my experience, when people rant and rave about the government, the truth is that they are deeply unhappy in their own lives and are simply looking for a scapegoat.

The settlement involves about 2400 farmers who had been denied loans because of perceived discrimination. If any of about 70K more farmers can prove that “some sort of discrimination” occured, they will be able to also recover damages. The minimum payout is 50K. And that is not the big item. Also written into the decison is “all debts on present agriculture loans will be forgiven”, in addition to the 50K They will also get 12.5K in IRS tax credits to cover their tax bills on this settlement, so essentially, the money is tax free. There are about 240 of the petitioners who will probably receive close to 250K for “exceptional” circumstances, plus the debt forgiveness and the IRS handout but the average payout will be 35-40K in an actual check. Actual outlay of tax dollars is set at about 1.25B.
Such a deal.

Hint: IR/YW will engage in a discussion. He will back up his points. He does it quite colorfully, but he won’t shy away from a discussion.
That’s the complete opposite of Jenifer.
So now it’s OK to move the goal line? Your complaint was about making fun of names, not as you now claim “engaging in discussion.”
And what is it with the Left and personal attacks and all the making fund of peoples’ names? Are their arguments that weak, their intellect so limited that the best they can do is playground taunts?
Please show me in this ^^^^ post of yours where you speak of engaging in discussions.

Speaking of the Indians (and, yes, that’s what Unmentionble prefers, given as he says, anybody born in the Western Hemisphere is a “Native American!”) back when we were checking out places to raise the kids, all three of whom are of Cherokee ancestry, the only criterion he stood firm on was that wherever we chose had to be on the other side of the Etowah River because they would be brought up on “home territory.” It was, as he said, “my own statement of ‘we shall overcome.’”
