The pilot who flew a private plane into an IRS office in Austin, Texas has been identified by federal officials as Joseph Stack.
A man using that name has also posted a lengthy diatribe against the IRS and the U.S. government. Our fellow Cox newspaper, the Austin American-Statesman, has posted the full rant on its website. Here are its concluding paragraphs:
“I know I’m hardly the first one to decide I have had all I can stand. It has always been a myth that people have stopped dying for their freedom in this country, and it isn’t limited to the blacks, and poor immigrants. I know there have been countless before me and there are sure to be as many after. But I also know that by not adding my body to the count, I insure nothing will change. I choose to not keep looking over my shoulder at “big brother” while he strips my carcass, I choose not to ignore what is going on all around me, I choose not to pretend that business as usual won’t continue; I have just had enough.
I can only hope that the numbers quickly get too big to be white washed and ignored that the American zombies wake up and revolt; it will take nothing less. I would only hope that by striking a nerve that stimulates the inevitable double standard, knee-jerk government reaction that results in more stupid draconian restrictions people wake up and begin to see the pompous political thugs and their mindless minions for what they are. Sadly, though I spent my entire life trying to believe it wasn’t so, but violence not only is the answer, it is the only answer. The cruel joke is that the really big chunks of shit at the top have known this all along and have been laughing, at and using this awareness against, fools like me all along.
I saw it written once that the definition of insanity is repeating the same process over and over and expecting the outcome to suddenly be different. I am finally ready to stop this insanity. Well, Mr. Big Brother IRS man, let’s try something different; take my pound of flesh and sleep well.
The communist creed: From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.
The capitalist creed: From each according to his gullibility, to each according to his greed.

Who the F are we kidding, this guy sounds like Bookman-
Why is it that a handful of thugs and plunderers can commit unthinkable atrocities (and in the case of the GM executives, for scores of years) and when it’s time for their gravy train to crash under the weight of their gluttony and overwhelming stupidity, the force of the full federal government has no difficulty coming to their aid within days if not hours? Yet at the same time, the joke we call the American medical system, including the drug and insurance companies, are murdering tens of thousands of people a year and stealing from the corpses and victims they cripple, and this country’s leaders don’t see this as important as bailing out a few of their vile, rich cronies.
Just sayin…..

Yeah boy, a real red blooded Conservative this klown was-
Some friends introduced me to a group of people who were having ‘tax code’ readings and discussions. In particular, zeroed in on a section relating to the wonderful “exemptions” that make institutions like the vulgar, corrupt Catholic Church so incredibly wealthy. We carefully studied the law (with the help of some of the “best”, high-paid, experienced tax lawyers in the business), and then began to do exactly what the “big boys” were doing (except that we weren’t steeling from our congregation or lying to the government about our massive profits in the name of God). We took a great deal of care to make it all visible, following all of the rules, exactly the way the law said it was to be done.
That’s an excerpt from Cynthia Tucker’s last column.

Good evening fellow Bookmaniacs, a rare non-Friday night appearance by yours truly.
HD, as to which “side” has the loonier loonies:
“Likely voters now have even less confidence in the nation’s large financial and business institutions than they do in both the federal and state governments.
Eighty-three percent of likely voters said they trusted small businesses “a lot” or “some,” while 73 percent said the same thing about their local bank.
Comparatively, only 38 percent said the same about corporations, while 33 percent said the same about national banks and 31 percent had the same view Wall Street.
Labor unions ranked the same as Wall Street and the news media pulled up the rear in the trust poll at 21 percent.
The federal government fall just about the middle of the pack, with 41 percent saying they trusted the national government “a lot” or “some,” the same level as state governments.”
(But here is where it gets interesting.)
“For the federal government, 67 percent of Democrats have a lot or some confidence, but only 15 percent of Republicans.
For corporations, 63 percent of Republicans have a lot or some confidence, but only 19 percent of Democrats.”

I worked for the IRS Criminal Investigation Division (called IRS Intelligence Division back then) for three years as a special agent working tax fraud cases. I paid for my three years salary, training, etc. several times over with just one good case.
However, I quit them and moved on to another agency when I had determined that they really wouldn’t let us do our jobs. It was all very political at times on who would get prosecuted and who wouldn’t.
In fact, I decided to move on the day I was informed that my failure to file case on four certified public accountants (they owned their own firm) had been rejected. They had not even filed tax returns for three years but were “wired” somehow ………………..
The agency has the tendency to pick on the “easier” targets.

On the banks. One of the ones we do business with is in Unmetionable’s hometown. He can call up, ask about a 90 day loan for whatever purpose, and the check will arrive with the paperwork. Trying to cash a check at the local branch of the “national chain” is a journey to the fifth circle of Dante’s Inferno. Sadness!! Yes, a fellow American so down and out about his life that he would take his and others with him. He thought he was mking a pilgrimage. He’d give them a sacrifice, himself and a few others. In the end, he proved nothing but the state of his mind.
This world was too much for him. He couldn’t see the good at all. That too, implies an unbalanced personality.
I grieve for such a man who carried those heavy mental burdens.
Condemn him? I cannot even while I realize that he inflicted his sacrifice on others. Could he understand the extent of what he was doing? I am not even sure that he could.
So let us offer encouragement and help to those who can no longer bear the burdens of this world. Theirs is a sickness. Let us not inflict wounds. Let us not pass judgment. Only God in his infinite wisdom and compassion can do such as that.

Brakeman, I concur. The system is WAYYY broken. They jailed Martha Stewart over something like $45K, and Tommy Chong for selling plastic and rubber across state lines. Meanwhile, the big time crooks like Madoff went on unhindered for years despite continuous pleas to investigate those crimes — leaving thousands of taxpaying citizens in financial ruin. And the REAL crooks somehow manage to have our national treasury emptied into their pockets with no audits and no questions, then move their HQ to Dubai to avoid the prying eyes of American auditors. No charges will ever be brought there, we can be sure.

Why, Hello, Jenifer!
When I got in the car I turned on the sat radio, scrolled thru the stations, and there on the display I read “Glenn Beck.” I thought, hmmm, that’s the guy Jenifer said inspired the guy to fly his plane into the IRS building. The rightwing Republican who – what is it you’ve said? Advocates violence, hatred, that sort of stuff?
So I went to the station. Caught the middle of a monologue. Was speaking of the guy who filed the first birther lawsuit. Said the guy should be condemned. Then went on to the 9-11 conspiracy types. Said they should be condemned, too. Then was talking about the pilot. Said violence should never be excused. Noted how extremists on the Right are condemned, but those on the Left are sometimes excused. Said all extremists should be condemned.
Said listeners who meet birthers or truthers should stay away from them. Said there is never an excuse for talk of revolution as we’ve had our revolution and now we have laws under which to seek redress.
There was a gap as I went into the post office. When I returned I heard “we are past the time when we should vote for candidates based upon whether they have an “R” or a “D” next to their name. Our criteria should be whether or not they have integrity.
Now, Jenifer, I don’t expect you to respond. That’s not your habit. Stating a falsehood, then moving on, is. But I’m interested: in which of those Beck books you referenced did you read a call to violence, such as demonstrated by the pilot? Or was that a comment that arose from ignorance
There is a cure for ignorance. It’s called ’study and education.’ Original research. Not excerpts that form the basis for a partisan’s writings. Source material. Written or spoken by the person in question.
You should give it a try.

By his own words Stack was trying to terrorize people.
“…violence not only is the answer, it is the only answer.”
He’s not talking about punching somebody in the nose, he’s talking about deadly violence. To what end? To terrorize people in the US government into doing what he wants, whatever that was.
Funny thing about right wing terrorists is the hazy, half-formed notions they use to justify acts of political murder. What is the “double standard” he speaks of? What “draconian restrictions” is he referring to? When you examine his complaints, there’s nothing specific to complain about. Taxes? We all pay them. Guns? You can own them legally if you’re not demonstrably crazy or a felon. Religious freedom? You can pray to a jar of mustard, and few will notice. None of these things has even changed significantly in the past forty years, unless you count as “draconian” the slightly tighter restrictions on murdering minorities.
If anything, nuts like Stack are the result of amped-up fears and paranoia stoked by the Murdoch Media. Dementia-inducing phrases like “double standards” and “draconian restrictions” are the rhetorical gasoline of choice at the Faux domestic terror propaganda factory. If you’re looking for a nexus of terror, that’s where to start.

Paul, you should take your own advice and spend more time listening to Beck (and I apologize to you in advance if you actually follow up and do it). I’m sorry, but listening to one part of one radio show hardly gives you a full picture of what a nut this guy is. A simple google search will find plenty of examples of his thinly veiled incitements of violence against the US government. When you compare what you heard Beck say on the radio to what you will hear him say in clips from past shows, you won’t be able to not conclude that he is a hypocritical lying sack of excrement.

An anti-IRS is an anti-tax and anti-governmentt ideology espoused by the Tea Party Movement, Conservative elites, libertarians and pro-business. Every conservative “leader” from the pundits, media to the GOP have done little to educate their constituents on the need for a commonwealth and what it truly takes to run a commonwealth in the 21st century. They would rather obfuscate the truth and twist the fears of their constituents to further their own gain.

Musical groups have forever voiced their opinions through their songs, and if folks didn’t like the message they didn’t listen.
Funny how so many get their knickers in a twist from tv entertainers – don’t like – don’t listen to it – that simple.

I take a stab at you for listening to Beckerhead and you fire back by claiming that I celebrate a murderer. That’s cheap, even by your standards.

If that’s the case I really don’t want to fill my head with that. Today was worthwhile because Jenifer and others alleged one thing, I listened to source and heard something else. Never an excuse for violence. Condemn birthers and truthers. Condemn violent acts. Do not speak of revolution.
I didn’t hear a snippet used by someone to launch an attack. For now, I’m comfortable with the notion the guy’s a nonviolent libertarian. When I read the book I’ll let you know if there’s anything contradictory.
Jenifer! Read a book! Why, what an idea! A book! Written by someone you attack! Based upon what others have told you to think! Wow!

This kind of action is the end result of the hate that the right spews out via Rushbo, Sheannity, Glenda Beckster, etc. It’s exactly what the Tea Party is trying to promote.

When you wrote “I don’t suppose you caught Beckerhead’s show where he basically tried to claim that people here wearing T-shirts with a cuban fighter’s image on it are just like Nazis, in his own specially demented way. Then again, if Beckerhead is your style, go for it.”
I took it to mean you said someone who thought Che Guevara, torturer and murderer, is in the same mold as Nazis was demented for so thinking. That if I had any affinity for such a person it put me in the same category.
I took that as a cheap shot, even for you. Of course, if you are unaware of Che’s history (not the glorified version of The Motorcycle Diaries, which I did watch) of torture, murder and repression of the Cuban people, I suppose you can be excused.

I say we round up all the poor people and smash their skulls against a rock wall. That would be so much fun! Especially the children! I can’t wait!
This would serve two purposes: Our problems will be over, and we get some cheap entertainment.”

The answer to who promotes this sort of thing-attacking government and government agencies -is very obvious: Bachmann and several other republicants, Faux News, especially Glenda Beckster. They constantly rile their listeners to attack Obama, the government, and its agencies (just check out the hatred and racism in their speeches, signs, & actions) — but ONLY since Obama became President. Never under Shrub.

Paul,
If you think Beckerhead’s lame and demented approach at “connecting” people here wearing T-shirts of Che with Nazis is reasonable or justified or fair or logical, then I see no hope for you. The Cuban Revolutionaries and their fights for their country are nothing even remotely similar to Nazi Germany and the plight of the Jews.
Are you one of those that thinks that ice melts when it gets colder too.

Do you live in a bubble? This has been going on for eons, all dependent on which “side” controls the gov’t. You may want to do a little research on the not too distant past when that “shrub” was in office. Folks actually staging rally’s against the “nazi”.
Take off the party blinders and educate yourself to the fact that all side choosers have a distorted view of their surroundings.

This is the kind of thing that happens when politicians, radio talk show hosts and the media continue to fuel the fire of a bad situation.
I firmly believe we can get out of this mess that the Bush Administration left this country in. But it is difficult when so many in the media and politics thrive off of the negative.
As much as the republicants and the media try to spin the crisis this country is in on to President Obama, it will always lead right back to the previous administration.

So Mr. Stack represents all that is wrong with this country and the right wing nutjobs have a new hero. Nothing could be further from the truth. He represents the same element that Ayers represents on the left. I don’t see any of you Bozo lovers stooping to criticize Mr. Ayers for blowing up federal buildings. And Bookman stokes the fires of discontent by throwing an item like this into the center of the ring and watching all of the players rip and tear at each other. Bookman, you must revel in this role in which you find yourself. You and Tucker represent a sense of bias that accomplishes absolutely nothing but fomenting discontent. It accomplishes very little, takes up on line space that could be much more productive and both of you call yourselves journalists. I think I am going to be sick.
