A little while from now, President Barack Obama will stand before the U.S. Congress and deliver the most importantest, hugest speech ever in American or even Kenyan history, the speech that will either elevate Obama into the ranks of the greatest to ever hold his high office or doom him to spending the rest of recorded time listed among the utter failures such as what’shisname — no not the older one, his son. You know, the name that cannot be uttered unless you want to be accused of bringing up ancient history, even though the people who say that also spend the rest of their lives mumbling “JimmycarterJimmycarterJimmycarter…”
Or maybe it’s not such an important speech after all, says Gallup:
“As Barack Obama prepares to give his first State of the Union address as president, a review of Gallup historical data suggests these speeches rarely affect a president’s public standing in a meaningful way, despite the amount of attention they receive. Among recent presidents, only Bill Clinton seemed to reap a public-opinion benefit from the yearly ritual, with an average 3 percentage-point increase across his seven State of the Union speeches.”

Oh well. I think I’ll watch anyway, just to keep an eye on that Joe Wilson fellow.

So far, this is VERY well crafted politically, hitting the populist notes that the GOP can either agree with or look bad, their choice.

This speech sounds like the campaign trail but people have seen behind the curtain and know the wiz for what he is. When it comes to transparency, bipartisanship and the rest of this stuff we conservatives are supposed to look bad on if we oppose it, it looks like he has experienced a foxhole conversion now that he got his butt kicked in MA. I wish he could make this stuff happen but it’s all about him, not us. Nothing like dissing the Supreme Court when he knows they have to sit there and take it. Their ruling protected the free speech that gives him the right to do that. Hypocrite in Chief I would say. Final memo to the Prez: it’s not Bush’s fault now. Be a conservative and take responsiblity.

That was a good speech. He really laid into the party of no and put them on the spot over and over and over. Of course, they responded in the pathetic manner that was expected. Interested only in anything that will get them more power. Of course, Obama is going to need more than an executive order to get things going. Given that the party of no has made its position clear — they’ll remain the party of no indefinitely — he’s going to have to get the Dems to push through as much as they can on their own. I say get the job done and leave the Republicans eating your dust. And embarrass as many Republicans as possible along the way. Take no prisoners.

Regardless of political views, how does it feel to have a 31 year old UGA grad in Kyle Wingfield on your sinking ship of a staff, absolutely dominating you in overall intellectual capacity.
