Former Arizona Congressman J.D. Hayworth says he is planning to run against John McCain for his U.S. Senate seat.
Hayworth, a Republican, told The Associated Press late Friday he stepped down as host of his radio program on KFYI-AM, a conservative radio talk show in Phoenix. Legally, he would not have been able to remain host of the program and be an active candidate.
“We will formally announce at a later time, but we’re moving forward to challenge John McCain,” he said. “I think we all respect John. I think his place in history is secure. But after close to a quarter-century in Washington, it’s time for him to come home.”
He said he wasn’t serious about running against McCain until a recent “outpouring of support” from Arizonans asking him to run changed his mind.
You don’t often see this, a primary challenge to a party’s most recent presidential nominee. I doubt it will come to much, but Hayworth is clearly hoping to ride the coattails of the Tea Party movement and its disdain for alleged “RINOs” such as McCain to victory in Arizona’s GOP primary. You never know, especially in this kind of political environment. Just ask Scott Brown.
I’m running off to the Gold Dome now for an ethics committee meeting. Please behave yourselves, now….

“Regardless of who made the decision, the Marines were at Khe Sahn with their hips in a sling. And as far as being manuverable, how would you manuver, in an noisey APC in the jungles and mountains that the I-Corp presented. Is that why they moved the Marines back to Da Nang area.”
Marine Corps first of all had to retake a little town from the NVA called Hue
“Again, you are referencing WWII tactics. The military knew they could not continue with battle lines and tactical movements of entire divisions blocking advances and retreats of enemy soldiers, that is why they devised the Airmobile concept, hence the birth of the 1st Cavalry Division.”
The Marine Corps was pioneering Chopper enabled vertical envelopments back in the early 60’s and that was one of the assault tactics off of LPH’s during operation Starlight August 1965 against the First Viet Cong regiment and before the First Air Cav. deployed to Vietnam.
Anyone claiming to be a Vet attacking another branch of the service and a veteran from that branch who is clearly ignorant of facts is bogus and not even and not even worthy of this post. I’m out

@Police Line
Jackie:
1) Marines in Nam didn’t have APC’s (we had a few tanks and Amtracs and our trucks but those stayed near the coast).
Our helos. (usually SeaKnights) dropped us off and we “walked” ………… sometimes we were out for weeks. Re-supply was kept to a minimum so as not to give away positions but alas you had to do it by helo.
So the tactics used by the Marines consisted of stealth and squad maneuvers? You did not want the Viet Cong or NVA to know where you were in the Tri-border area? Question is, who were the Viet Cong and where the heck did they live? When your SeaKnights dropped you off, do you believe they were of the stealth variety?
2) You still try to put words in my mouth (no pun intended). One more time – now pay attention ……… Marine grunts in Northern I Corps (DMZ area) probably ate C-Rations every day for 80-90% of their time in Nam ……… even at the forward fire bases like Con Thien. You couldn’t congregate together in a “mess tent” as in that area you were always within artillery range from North Vietnam or their side of the DMZ (not to mention rockets or mortars).
Did your units work in a wagon-wheel concepts around the firebases? When you were in Con Thien, did you have support from other American units in the area? Was Con Thien, essentially the beginning of the Ho Chi Minh trail in South Viet Nam? If you received fire from the across the border, was there someone to return fire? If so, how would they know where your unit was? If no one knew where you were, how did you avoid the “archlights?”
And of course it didn’t rain everyday and the dry season in I Corps was the opposite of that in the south.
Of course it did not rain everyday.
3) I got my standard 3 day R&R (China Beach) and one 5 day out of country R&R (Okinawa). That was it. Other than that I was either on operations in the field or providing security/patrols at a forward fire base (eating C-Rations pal !)
We all got a supply of C-rats. Does not mean that we had to eat them if we were fed otherwise.
The 1st Cav had operational control of that area until November of 1968 and it was Division policy that all the units in the field got at least one hot meal daily unless there was a situation that dictated otherwise.
Like I said previously, my wife’s brother was a 3rd Marine and his high school friend. The brother was a KIA. They had a high school friend that was with the 1st Cav, 13th Signal who was in the always in and out of the area. We have spoke about our experiences and he never indicated a problem with food and water. I had a high school friend that was 1/7th Cav. He never mentioned an problem with food or water.
I can say, the water was bad and tasted like Clorox, but, the Army insisted it was safe and potable.
The food was wretched, but was standard military fare, lots of proteins.

Sooooooo, if we’re going there then you would have to label Obama and Reid as racists.
“Like I said, racists do like to joke about other races.”
You should direct that thought at AmVet.

Hayworth was just ousted himself, but he has a shot. McCain needs to retire and stop triple-dipping (Senate, military, SS) at the federal government trough. But I guess that would be impossible since he’d then be getting a Senate pension. Good grief! What a patriot. Senator, you and your ilk are the problem. Can’t your wealthy trophy wife support you? Wonder how many more like him are “serving” us?

Salute! First Team!!!
The problem I am having with Police Line is that he keeps putting out this propoganda about his being in a fight hole for most of his time in ‘Nam and he ate C-rats the majority of time in country.
He further stated that he was in Con Thien and essentially his unit was steal; they did not want the enemy to know where they were.
He indicated that Tet was in November and the only one was 1968.
What a joke!!!!!!
I take your point. I will allow him to believe what he wants.

If you don’t know your history ……… you are doomed to repeat it. Just look at current events.
The Marines just left Iraq after seven years (the same number of years as Nam) and only the U.S. Army is there for any ground fighting. When they leave guess what happens? Remember April 30, 1975?

You’re right brother. I’m through also as I am beginning to think we are talking about a “sonar to bridge” here if you know what I mean.
However, I have a serious question for you alone (Jackie – that means butt out).
What do you think would have happened in South Vietnam if instead of Laos and Cambodia on its entire western border there had instead been the (let’s say) “Sea of Thailand” ?
In my opinion, we would have had just another Korea. The DMZ in V.N. was only 53 miles wide (Korea was 250). We could have sealed it off and an American Division would still be sitting there on the DMZ along side South Vietnamese units.
If true ……… that brings up the old addage …………. never get involved in a land war in Asia.

What’s interesting to me is something I haven’t heard people discussing about the relationship between media entertainers and politicians. Some time ago, folks were pointing to Rush Limbaugh as the de facto party leader (remember when the head of the RNC, Steele, had to apologize to him?)… and the Republicans quickly said that Rush was an *entertainer*, something Rush himself says.
Now, however, there seems to be increasing bleed between Republican entertainers and Republican politicians. You have this fellow, who was a politician, became a media host, and is returning to politics… obviously Palin… and the right wing politicians are beholden to their media in a way that left wing politicians aren’t. I think plenty of people would vote for Limbaugh or Hannity, were they to run (although they’d be fools to give up their empires for that), but I don’t know too many on my side who would vote for John Stewart or Stephen Colbert or even Rachel Maddow. (Al Franken seems to be the exception). Sure, Hollywood tends toward the liberal, but the left uses them as occasional boosters and frequent check-writers, not main sources of political vitality or ideas. Think about Neal Boortz and his collaboration with Linder on the Fair Tax book… we’d laugh at Stewart if he tried to write a policy book, even though we think he’s on point with a lot of criticism.
I’d love to know what you folks–especially on the right wing–think about the ties between your political entertainers and your politicos. My suspicion: Rush may think of himself as an entertainer, but I think he’s the only one. I think many people view him (and other talk show hosts) as some kind of prophetic truth-tellers.

Dusty spouting the sing song he fought for our countr nonsense, and the other gadgets and slogans that go with committing our young to endless wars, and sometimes death you’ll have your Dusty’s.

Without a brain Jay… :
I listen to Jay for several reasons:
1) He usually engages in reasoned debate without getting too personal and documents well.
2) We must know our political enemy and what they are thinking/planning at all times.
3) Occasionally, he will break out of his biased mindset and nail a liberal/Democrat for some wrongdoing.
4) He does genuinely love his country (as a liberal parent who truly loves their children but still raises them as “spoiled brats” vs. a conservative parent who disciplines their children and makes them work for that allowance.)
By the way, visit a grocery store and hang out some Saturday morning for about an hour and you will see just what I mean.
