Money isn’t speech, but music without words can be eloquent

This is, in my humble opinion, the greatest instrumental piece of the rock era (”Stairway to Heaven” fans … sorry). It has the lilt of country/bluegrass, the inflections of jazz but most of all it flat out rocks. It’s joy undercut with melancholy, it flows like a river flows, fast then slow but always true to its course.

I’ve seen the Allmans do it a couple of times, but never out in a field on a sunny summer day, which I’m sure is the way the good Lord intended it to be experienced.

I’m glad you did say rock, otherwise I’d have to argue with you about that one. I like the Allmans, but head to head, I don’t think they could hold court with these musicians. I’m sure there’s quite a few offspring that would agree with me too.

Jay, Jeff Beck’s “Highway Jam” is another one of the greats that fused jazz and rock much as the Bro’s did. Beck’s album “Blow by Blow” is some of the best in this genre of music. The Allmans were and are great and I saw them quite a few times both before and after the trajedy(s). I also saw them when they just couldn’t even play (hmmm. wonder why?) and I swear I saw Greg Allmans fingers bleed one night after a marathon session in Atlanta on night. Anyway, they never were the same after the loss of Dwain and Barry but nevertheless they beat the pants off of most everything else. If listening to “Jessica” doesn’t make you feel better then something is bad wrong with you. Give a listen to Mr. Beck, if you haven’t. Same feel good tempo that is the salve to our soul.

Follow the Money: Dems in Bed with Wall St. – Tim Carney, DC Examiner

“If these folks want a fight,” President Obama said Thursday, tossing a rhetorical barb at Wall Street, “it’s a fight I’m ready to have.”

But what if they don’t want a fight?

To begin with the substance of his proposed regulations: Right now, all we have is a vague first draft. We know they will be fleshed out, rewritten, amended, tweaked, ping-ponged, and massaged.

All along, we know Wall Street lobbyists will be at the table. The Wall Street “fat cats,” as Obama calls them, probably aren’t really looking for a fight as much as a seat at the table — and the numbers suggest they’ve earned that seat.

AP – Unemployment rates rose in 43 states last month, the government said Friday, painting a bleak picture of the job market and illustrating nationwide data released two weeks ago.

Maybe by spring Obowo will have seen it spread to all 57 states.

Since the frontal assault on the health care industry seems doomed, may as well take on another industry to nationalize, like, say, the banks. The Fed can buy them all up anyway with their fast-print worthless money.

Hmmmm. After the banks, then maybe utilities, such as the power companies. Then, go after the airlines… they’re weak as sour milk now anyway, and they could paint that nifty logo on the tail that Obowo had on his stinker of a plane (literally) last year.

Feeling the Heat, Obama Pours Kool-Aid

Denial, arrogance, and self-pity are ingredients for a pretty toxic cocktail. And yet it seems that the occupants of the White House bunker, shell-shocked by Scott Brown, are coping by mixing all three with a little Kool-Aid.

Not only is the White House in denial that giving Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid control of domestic and economic policy wasn’t what voters wanted in 2008, they’re in denial that it isn’t what voters want in 2010. Instead, the White House is going to play the populist card, attacking the banks they bailed out and the insurance companies they struck sweetheart deals with. BTW, we’ve all been duped. Y’all can see that now, right? Hating on each other over disagreement on a few “issues” is just a game they had us play to keep us occupied, and provide a false sense of knowledge and control. Why do you think there is no actual “change?” D’OH! Actual power never changes. It’s a RUSE.

Coakley wasn’t trying to win that seat any more than Kerry actually tried in ‘04. The puppetmasters LET “change” happen in ‘08 because the masses were bereft of “hope” and getting restless. *Whistle blast!* “Blue team’s ball! Play on!” It really and truly IS “just a game” and somebody’s making truckloads of cash sellin’ tickets. At the end of the day, doesn’t mean a thing.

Terrorist threat level raised to ’severe’

Britain’s terrorist threat level was raised tonight from “substantial” to “severe” – meaning that counter-terrorism agencies believe an attack is “highly likely”.

The measure was approved at a meeting of the Government’s Cobra emergency committee and announced by Alan Johnson, the Home Secretary.

The Times understands that the decision to raise the threat level is connected to the conference on Afghanistan taking place at Lancaster Gate, London, next Thursday.

Sources said there had been intensive discussions throughout the day relating to intelligence suggesting a possible attempted “spectacular” by an al-Qaeda affiliated group.

Dancing people never hear anything but the rhythm and the groove. (IW&SH)

“Angel” is another great one. ARS never got the recognition for being the top notch players that they were. Paul Goddard’s bass playing (this song is a good example) was genius.

Carlos Santana is one of my favorite guitar players because he understands the less is more principle. It’s not how many licks you can play but how you play them. He can play the hot licks but it’s the feeling he can put into it that sets him apart from the crowd. Europa is an excellent example of that.

BudWiser @ 5:01

You do know that’s Duane Allman playing the slide on that? He had a whole lot to do with make that album a great album instead of just a good one. Even Clapton said that.

It’s quite a treat to see Butch Trucks and Jaimoe get the cross rhythms going on this one in a live setting, where you can actually watch what they’re doing.
