Former Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska has signed on as a contributor to the Fox News Channel.
The network confirmed that Ms. Palin will appear on the network’s programming on a regular basis as part of a multi-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Ms. Palin will not have her own regular program, one person familiar with the deal said, though she will host an occasional series that will run on the network from time to time. This person would not elaborate, but the network does have a precedent for such a series. Oliver L. North is the host of an occasionally running documentary series on the military called “War Stories.”
Many suspected that when Ms. Palin retired as the governor of Alaska last summer she was doing so to pursue some sort of career in television. The Fox News deal, however, would not seem to be all encompassing, and would appear to give her room for other pursuits, as well.
That’s a smart business decision by Fox, and probably by Palin as well. The exposure is probably less important for her than the experience. I never could understand conservatives who in 2008 thought you could take someone with her background and lack of media experience and throw her into the middle of a national presidential campaign. While Palin didn’t handle it well, almost nobody could have handled it well enough to thrive. It’s like taking a high school baseball player and throwing him into the World Series against Mariano Rivera.

Jay, correct me if I’m wrong, but in all the time since Palin was announced as McCain’s running mate, she’s yet to submit herself to what most would consider a proper press conference, right?

Reason I asked: I am pretty sure that when the previous female aspirant to the Vice Presidency, Geraldine Ferraro, got into some guilt-by-association trouble on account of her husband’s financial dealings in 1984, during the campaign, that she allowed herself to be grilled by a bunch of reporters for an hour or two, in order to set that record as straight as she could.
Kind of surprised that factoid never got much play in ‘08.

For the time being, jay, this is still a free country. Had we only been able to elect Obama’s teleprompter as President. After all, it’s words that matter most. Actions? As long as it’s followed by a (D)ud, that’s O.K.

MSNBC has Harold Ford and other democrats as regular contributors.
ABC hired Clinton staff members as “journalists.”
NBC hired a former Jimmy Carter staff member as a host.
But somehow FOX adding Palin on………….

what was Palin’s Tea Party Movement will now become the Conservative’s Movement.
Talk about FOX! The dems have just been outmaneuvered. A common voice leading the people. Oops! I forgot…to be common, is to be less than, in the mind of the liberal elite.

Fox News has a conservative bias. Sarah Palin is a conservative. The broadcast media are a business. That business relies on viewership for advertizing revenue. Sarah Palin has a considerable following. A wise move and a coup for Fox. Money talks and b*llsh*t walks…
