We can’t keep going on like this….

Sooner or later, the piper demands to be paid:

From the NY Times:

With the national debt now topping $12 trillion, the White House estimates that the government’s tab for servicing the debt will exceed $700 billion a year in 2019, up from $202 billion this year, even if annual budget deficits shrink drastically. Other forecasters say the figure could be much higher.

In concrete terms, an additional $500 billion a year in interest expense would total more than the combined federal budgets this year for education, energy, homeland security and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The potential for rapidly escalating interest payouts is just one of the wrenching challenges facing the United States after decades of living beyond its means.

I don’t know much about the Ford plant in Hapeville, but I was in the Doraville assembly plant about once a week for the last two years it was in operation. The problems were a direct result of an incompetent work force and the lack of automation. GM was willing to leave the plant open if it could produce an upswing in quality, but the union would not allow the automation that would have improved that quality.

I simply won’t be convinced that workers, doing repetitive jobs, day after day, week after week and year after year are going to compete with state of the art assembly robots. Your article doesn’t address the automation issue, and I would not it expect it to address those problems.

Hopefully, @@, you’ll realize one day that folks like “Andy” do far more harm to the conservative movement than any liberal could ever do in their wildest dreams.

And once again, here’s my list of ways that conservatives can win back an alienated populace:

(1) Return to true conservative values such as limited government, fiscal responsibility, individual freedom/responsibility.

(2) Stay out of people’s personal lives. Accept that abortion is here to stay regardless of your personal feelings about it.

(3) Distance the party from religious extremists. It’s not worth alienating the middle to appeal to the far right. And that doesn’t mean compromising conservative principles. Strict “constructionists” respect the non-establishment clause.

(4) Return to a more limited foreign policy. Following 9/11, some type of military response was required, but 2 long dragged-out wars cannot be considered a successful outcome, IMO. I do see benefits in knocking Saddam out of power, but it came at a huge price. I am of the mindset that radical Islam must be dealt with from the outside because the Muslim world doesn’t have the political will to do it from within.

NIF: But between the two, I think the Republicans are what you see. Republicans generally do what they say they will do

WTF!! :shock: Have you read the republican “Contract W/America” lately? Did ANY of that happen? Any of it? At any time? Just asking….

To refresh your memory –

REPUBLICAN CONTRACT WITH AMERICA 1994

As Republican Members of the House of Representatives and as citizens seeking to join that body we propose not just to change its policies, but even more important, to restore the bonds of trust between the people and their elected representatives.

That is why, in this era of official evasion and posturing, we offer instead a detailed agenda for national renewal, a written commitment with no fine print.

This year’s election offers the chance, after four decades of one-party control, to bring to the House a new majority that will transform the way Congress works. That historic change would be the end of government that is too big, too intrusive, and too easy with the public’s money. It can be the beginning of a Congress that respects the values and shares the faith of the American family.

Like Lincoln, our first Republican president, we intend to act “with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right.” To restore accountability to Congress. To end its cycle of scandal and disgrace. To make us all proud again of the way free people govern themselves.

On the first day of the 104th Congress, the new Republican majority will immediately pass the following major reforms, aimed at restoring the faith and trust of the American people in their government:

* FIRST, require all laws that apply to the rest of the country also apply equally to the Congress;
* SECOND, select a major, independent auditing firm to conduct a comprehensive audit of Congress for waste, fraud or abuse;
* THIRD, cut the number of House committees, and cut committee staff by one-third;
* FOURTH, limit the terms of all committee chairs;
* FIFTH, ban the casting of proxy votes in committee;
* SIXTH, require committee meetings to be open to the public;
* SEVENTH, require a three-fifths majority vote to pass a tax increase;
* EIGHTH, guarantee an honest accounting of our Federal Budget by implementing zero base-line budgeting.

Thereafter, within the first 100 days of the 104th Congress, we shall bring to the House Floor the following bills, each to be given full and open debate, each to be given a clear and fair vote and each to be immediately available this day for public inspection and scrutiny.

Many people don’t realize that one of the most segregated cities in the USA, was and still is, Washington, DC.

You hear the politicians talk about the level of education, the money being put into the schools, housing, government jobs, and on and on and on…

Just for information. Elgin Baylor, NBA hall of fame and a native of Washington, DC tells the story of how he was a big time baseball player, yet, was chased away from the playgrounds in NW DC because he tried to play baseball.

If you have ever spent any amount of time in the District, you will understand that all education is funded by the Congress of the USA. The citizens of DC do not have a representative that has voting power. The physical public schools of DC are so bad, 3 out of the 8 were condemned. There is a public/private Catholic school system in the District where black kids could not attend until the late 60’s. Often times black kids were denied the right to ride the city bus.

The national debt was stable from WWII until the early 1980’s, when Ronald Reagan’s tax cuts, coupled with increased spending, not only exploded the budget deficit, they exploded the national debt. The national debt quadrupled, from $900 billion in 1980, to $3.2 trillion in 1990. From 1980 to 1990, the national debt increased from 33.3% to 55.9% of GDP. The national debt as a percentage of GDP stabilized in the 1990’s, but went up again in this decade, to 90.4% of GDP, started in large part by the two Bush tax cuts. What I’m saying to conservatives is that tax cuts increase both the budget deficit and the national debt if they’re not coupled with spending cuts. Neither your hero Reagan or either of the Bush’s did that.

“Let me guess, when you were itlle bitty Bruno, some Catholic Nun wrapped you across the knuckles, hahahaha.”

No, what actually happened is that I grew up and stopped accepting mythological explanations from dusty books. Not that I ever fell for that crap anyway, even as a small child.

Play poker much? I’m smelling a fish, for sure.

Watched this great hour about the bomb today on The History Channel.

We kill more civilians in Hiroshima or Iraq?

That’s an OK argument about the bomb having saved lives, as it replaced the need for a ground invasion.

We got one of those conscience clearers for Iraq?

To be fair to the athiests, I studied Big Bang Theory, etc., but found it to be lacking. However, that doesn’t prove mythology by default.

The bottom line is that some things will always be a mystery. Some people can live with that, others have to fill the void with mythology.

Bruno,

I’ll have to read back and see what they said. I’ve got too much experience with you lying about what people say to take your word for it. I’ve also got enough of a long term relationship with both of them that if they said exactly what you’ve accused them of it would be the first time.

Well that didn’t take long. I only had to go back to 9:20 to see where Bruno made up his big lie of the night. Created it out of whole cloth, he did.

Wait, created??? Must be mythology because everybody knows that in the book of Bruno if you believe in a Creator but can’t prove it you’re some backward troglodyte believing in mythology but if you have no idea why or how we’re here and just don’t want to believe in a Creator you’re standing on solid scientific ground.

To Jackie:

What I was trying to say is that most unions have outlived their usefulness. In many ways they are corrupt and politicized beyond repair. When I was a member (many years ago) it was all about how you could screw the company or management. Believe me ………. I worked hard, did what I was told and repected my superiors. The older union guys did not like that. I could give you many examples but I won’t bore you.

What about old General Vessey ……………… :o )

Nice try Bruno, but when you tell a complete lie about what you claim you’ve read that I typed I think the burden is on you to prove it when it’s disputed. I could link to post after post that I made and you could just say that was the wrong one so if I tell you you’ve misrepresented my words I’ll tell you how just as soon as you link to them.

As stated above, I don’t give a rats ass what people believe in. I do give a rat’s ass about what the Constitution says. My personal beliefs have nothing to do with anything. I revealed my own beliefs upon direct questioning by Reporter.

Neither of them said anything about having government establish a religion either that I can find. Care to give me a link or a time-stamp? All I saw was them saying that people of faith should have a voice too and not be shunned as pariahs for the good of Bruno’s political party.

The experience you had in your union work could be found in non-union operations.
You and I both know that it happens in the military, frequently.

As for Gen. Vessey, I still don’t have any idea what he was yelling about?

RW, isn’t that the same logic that the folks who like to scream “Bush lied” without ever providing a specific use?

“could link to post after post that I made and you could just say that was the wrong one so if I tell you you’ve misrepresented my words I’ll tell you how just as soon as you link to them.”

This whole BS started when you made some remark about how the people posting music links throughout the week were somehow causing people to continue arguing politics on Friday instead of enjoying the music. AmVet referenced your claim a few days later and I joked with him in return. But instead of simply restating your position, you started a bunch of petty arguments, which escalated into your blog “frisking” and denunciations by you, @@, and Reporter.

We could start with the first two blog entries:

10:09 wtf have I said to you while I was away that has your panties in a twist?

10:17 you lying

Kind of like your claim that people were still arguing on Friday night when it turned out it was you, @@, and Reporter that were doing all the arguing.

Bruno,

I’ll take your 10:40 as your own admission of you being a bald faced liar. “Am” started in just a few comments after mine and “B” was parroting it soon after culminating in your claim that you read what I said and then repeated what you claimed I wrote which didn’t even resemble it.

I don’t blame you for the obfuscation of trying to go back a few days though since it’s so easy to just scroll up a few posts to see you lying about Andy and @@ in very much the same way tonight.

“Even Einstein believed in a creator. The more he studied and developed his equations the more he believed.”

Einstein never defined what a “Creator” was, nor does the Bible. People have to fill in the blanks themselves, which everyone does slightly differently. I agree with Einstein that coincidence and chance are too unlikely to be the original Creative force as the Big Bang Theorem and Darwinian Evolution would have you believe. But once again, there are more than two choices on the test. I’m going with (C) No one really knows.

Once again, you’re offering empty insults without one solid reference/rebuttal/anything. In return, I’ve rebutted your empty claims with specific posts.

I’ll consider the matter closed. I merely wanted to find out where you, @@, and Reporter were coming from. I suspected it was from some “literal” Bible perspective, and I was right.
