We can’t keep going on like this….

Sooner or later, the piper demands to be paid:

From the NY Times:

With the national debt now topping $12 trillion, the White House estimates that the government’s tab for servicing the debt will exceed $700 billion a year in 2019, up from $202 billion this year, even if annual budget deficits shrink drastically. Other forecasters say the figure could be much higher.

In concrete terms, an additional $500 billion a year in interest expense would total more than the combined federal budgets this year for education, energy, homeland security and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The potential for rapidly escalating interest payouts is just one of the wrenching challenges facing the United States after decades of living beyond its means.

NOTE: I’m on vacation this week, so posting will be a little lighter than normal. As you might have noticed….

Gee, let’s do something the Republicans say all the time but never do, let’s be responsible for our own actions and pay our own way. Institute a war tax now or get out!

Raise taxes, right?

I know the trillion dollar health care bill won’t be derailed no matter how “concerned” the libs seem.

Hi fellow Bookmaniacs … so … did I miss anything exciting over the last 2 weeks???

As for the deficit … how about a gummint rummage sale? bake sale for the Dept of Defense? silent auction for the commerce department?

me, I would have liked to have seen war bonds for the Iraq/Afghanistan war … let all the 101st Chairborn division pony up for the war they were so hot for …

Well, I’m like all the other godly Conservatives on here. Tell me what it’s going to do to my personal bank account and taxes and I’ll tell you what we need to do. But you just can’t leave me stuck with all this information about the debt and not tell me how it’s going to hit me in the wallet.

Otherwise, I’m glad to see USinUK back from vacation. She gets a little wild-eyed and radical at times, but she’s worth a read. It’s alot better than seeing mike put on his hissy-fit about bigots and such.

Have a good day and Thanksgiving week everybody. I’m awful glad to see the school buses will be off the road for awhile starting Wednesday. Maybe we can travel the roads at a decent clip, like 85 or 90 mph.

Howdy USinUK,

Yes, I agree with Fly – we should lower taxes on everything and spend beyond our means. I think that’s a GREAT plan! Whose with me?

Fly,

War tax? I totally agree. I think it should be a seperate transaction every time you buy anything – even a Coke from the store – not just some added on percent like sales tax, but a seperate transaction – that way you see it, you hold the receipt, and you know how much you spent. In other words – you own it.

Obama claims he’s already cut taxes for 95% of us and he’s quadrupled deficit spending. I don’t think your plan is working.

We cannot afford this OboboCare.
We need a tax increase on the lower class.
We can no longer afford the earned income credit.
Cull-out govt workers waste…no govt issued c-phones, credit cards etc.
Re-visit the welfare/food stamp enrollees for fraud.

The govt giveaways must stop.

Angry Black Man

Cut government spending across the board to include subsidies of all kinds unless necessary for national security.

Increase import tarriffs to make it cheaper for companies to make goods here. Maybe that would lowre unemployment and increase the tax base.

Short term tax increase that expires once the deficit is lowered to a managable amount and resets tax rates that are equitable across all income levels.

Didn’t see that game, but I hate games like that – they are so boring. I did see that score though – wow! I can just imagine the announcers, after the first three or four goals scored by Defoe, there all like in their best sarcastic voice , “Oh, yeah, Defoe [eyes roll]” Eventually they probably started talking the latest rugby scores.

“no govt issued c-phones, credit cards etc”

now, that’s funny. so, the folks with Homeland Security, FEMA, Department of Defense, etc., should all be forced to use their own personal cell phones when they’re out dealing with crises … because they all make soooooo much money to begin with …

yeah. that’ll definitely reduce the deficit.

regardless of fault for the deficit, is it really a good idea to be tacking on another 800billion now?

Or would it maybe be a wiser choice to hold off on HC reform, or lower the cost?

Unless some people are putting their own wants and desires ahead of the needs of the country?

Seems the more the 2 parties claim to be different the more they show they are the same. Both have an agenda and do not care what the effects of their agenda is as long as they get what they and their lobbiest want.
