Fox News is trumpeting the results of its latest poll, showing that President Obama’s job approval rating has fallen to its all-time low of 46 percent, matching his disapproval rating.
A few days ago, Fox was also trying to make a big deal about Obama’s bow to the emperor of Japan. The poll suggests that seed fell on barren ground.
The question:
When the president of the United States is traveling overseas, do you think it is appropriate for him to bow to a foreign leader if that is the country’s custom or is it never appropriate for the president to bow to another leader?
The response:
Yes, bow when it is the proper custom: 67 percent
No, it is never appropriate: 26 percent
Democrats: Yes, 84 percent; Never, 9 percent
Republicans, Yes, 53 percent; Never 40 percent
Independents: Yes, 62 percent; Never, 30 percent

Exercising good manners and respecting the customs of the land you are visiting fall under the umbrella of “Treat others as you would have them treat you.” How many posters here today squawking about the bow also are incensed when foreigners come here, as visitors or immigrants, and fail to learn and respect “our way” of doing things? (Yankees: when I brake gently and nod to you, so that you may enter your desired lane in traffic, a courtesy wave of thanks is our custom. You’re welcome.)
One more revelation: Just because I bow or cede to you does NOT mean you own me, I am your b—-, or that you have any power over me beyond what I have ceded in the moment. I do not imagine for one nanosecond that our President’s bow means anything more than a polite greeting and gesture of goodwill for the forthcoming conversation. Those of you who imagine more of it REALLY need to get over yourselves!!

The “nonuts” (aka liberals) don’t care what Obama does.
I know, I know–”Common Sense” is birther trash, and a really dumb troll, but I want to address this for a bit.
On what planet do liberals not care what Obama does? JC on a rusty trailer hitch, go over to an actual liberal blog some day (not Jay, for crying out loud) – your Orange Satan, your Demonic Underwear, even FluffPo. The sniping and griping is cacophonous.
Me? I’m pretty happy with the job so far. I pretty much got what was actually advertised (as opposed to what was fed to me from The Stupids); I paid attention to what the man was saying back during his first Dem debates, and throughout the general election.
And I watch The Meter to see how he’s doing as well.
And if his party loses the 16-seat House average in 2010 after he pushes real hard to accomplish the tougher goals (HCR being the big garish one, but there are others like killing DADT and maybe instituting a more sensible immigration policy), eh. He’ll likely be re-elected.
Things are really pretty good. The economy sucks of course, but I don’t think for a moment it would’ve been better under McCain/Palin.

My position was, if you’re gonna call someone a moron, ya’ might wanna first learn to master that “comment’ button.

Bosch,
I didn’t need to look at their records to see if they paid.
They were over there openly telling the nurse at the triage, and the insurance liason that they DID NOT intend to pay for their service. That they couldn’t and wouldn’t. They had no ID to show.
I didn’t need to delve deeper into it, but the rather loud banter they kept going on about how they better not get a bill in the mail… Well, that kinda gave it away.
And they smelled like crap, looked like crap, and the kids didn’t have shoes. You tell me if these people cared about paying for a SERVICE? And lets be honest… Non-English speaker… refuse to show ID, or understand how to show an id… Or maybe it was the other cook that brought in his co-worker, to translate, so that his line helper could get sewn up from a knife cut in the kitchen.. If your legal, you have nothing to hide!
Maybe I should go to the restaurant tonight and tell them I’m broke and won’t be paying for my meal after I order it. I wonder how that will go over?
What about the bank that does my mortgages?! Just tell them I’m done paying, and think I should have a free house.. Yeah, thats the ticket!
Maybe I’m just better at seeing obvious crap, rather the made up world most people want to live in.

All you republican haters on this site, enjoy it now because in 2010 the “we get back control” tour starts for the right. In 2012 we send the manchild walking into the night. Then, you can all blame the redneck, racist white people for the loss. The truth is the guy was never a leader before we lost our minds and voted for him and the man is still not a leader and most likely never will be. Pelosi and Reid run this country with their hand up Obama’s butt like a puppet. By the way, there is NO protocol for one head of state bowing to the another head of state. Did you see the Japanese President bow down to the damn floor to Obama? NO, you did not because even he knew it meant weakness. Like I said, enjoy your time in the sun. Foxy,
Are you 12? I can tell you don’t have a job, honey.. You write/type just like you’d speak in the hood.
Are you one of those people who’ve never cared about politics until “The Man” came to power? I bet your the kind that didn’t pay any attention to what went on, but felt that it was really awesome to put a “Change” or “Hope” sticker on your car… Infact, the oddest thing is.. during all the elections in the past, I’ve always seen both sides of the parties, and their garbage stickers and ads.. Rarely do you find them in the hood. Now, it’s uncool to be black, and not have one of those stickers on their beaters. The same way it was common practice to find those dopy “W” stickers on cars.
Racist or not, black people rarely care about voting and elections. Look at our turn out in ATL. It was sub-par at best. No one cared at all.. They banked on the voters of 2008 to come out and vote again in droves. ACORN didn’t care about the ATL vote. Not even 25% of voters showed.
So Foxy.. grab your coloring book, girl; and go have some fun this weekend. Your still a winner, even if you can’t stay within the lines.

What about food? We all need that? Who can perform well with no intake? Cars? We should get cars too for free? Need them to get to work, and get things done after work, right??

It does not matter what you or I think concerning this matter. What matters is just what did the bow mean to the Japanese? Just what does it mean when a citizen of Japan bows to the emperor of Japan? Does it mean that he/she is acknowledging the “divinity of the emperor” (Tennô which is usually translated into the English emperor literally means “heavenly sovereign”), that he is a direct decedent of the Japanese Kami, and the highest authority in the Shinto religion? Sometimes yes. So, just what did the Japanese think that Obama meant by his bow?

GetitRight, get a grip. Your interpretation is stressing you out, and stress is a killer, you know. The government, which is actually you and me by proxy, has established guidelines and systems by which people in this country (most if not all) have access to clean water — to the extent that we take it forgranted. As a result, we have a healthier, more productive general welfare than countries where people drink feces-contaminated mud. Pay attention now, Sparky: This is NOT the same thing as having a federal agent come to your house and force an enema hose into your anus, followed by three gallons of [much needed] cleansing water. See? Tweaking systems so fewer people are left out of lifesaving goods and services can be beneficial to us ALL! It doesn’t mean the end of goodness as you define it. Bless your heart.

Dis/Approval ratings, What is that? What was W’s approval rating his last YEARS in office? What was Clintons approval ratings? We have checks and balances in place to make sure that not even the President has so much power. In 1-2 yrs the disapproval will show when Congress gets re-balanced in favor of the GOP. Then when everyone sees that with a Dem in the WH and a GOP controlled Congress even then nothing much will get done. I am convinced that our Modern Day politicians on both sides are in cahoots. Honestly when was the last time we had a Great Statesmen or a real Leader?

There is hope, but it is slight.
The last time this country had a balanced budget was right after Clinton failed to pass his version of healthcare. Congress was cleaned out and replaced with the gop, which unlike the Bush years demanded a balanced budget. If you will recall, Clinton had to submit 5 budget proposals before congress approved one and the budget was balanced within the next 4 years.
If this monster bill goes through, you can kiss that balanced budget goodbye forever, and the downfall of America will be complete. Before long, a strong economy would barely be able to pay the interest, much less the bills.

Final Word: jesus was a copycat messiah, hannity and rush prove the “mental shadow” of themselves time after time, and every strong arm republican is most likely a spoiled brat with closet issues and an overprotective mother. I wish my daddy could give me all his cast off companies so i could run ‘em into the ground for practice…. Bush junior screwed this country and closed minded morons will never accept it.. deal with it..

md… you’re a moron. corporate greed ruined this country. my CEO received a $2 million bonus (2nd Q) this year on top of his $8 million salary while laying off in excess of 100 employees at our grand corporate headquarters and other sites just to protect the bottom line. How many “average workers” should have kept their jobs? How many families had to stress over the fact their head of household was let go for no reason? Bush’s base is still alive and kickin’ because of the good ole’ southern boy mentality in this grand republican state. Short sighted, small minded politics are still alive in the south and will never die, due to greed of cowardly executive limp d*ck idiots and the reps they pay off.

Since I will be traveling tomorrow, I would like to wish every one a happy thanksgiving, and remember to say a prayer for Jesus, the US military, and President Barack Hussein Obama, commander and chief of the US military….

I think it is absolutely absurb for people to hold Obama accountable for the state of this country. He has been given a huge responsibility to fix mess that’s been brewing for years. It is also appropriate for world leaders to bow when the custom of that country requires it. If the US had a custom for other world leaders to bow to Obama, would the Republicans be upset if someone didn’t do it. People let’s get real. Let’s focus on real issues and not this type of foolishness!!
