Good. Glad to see it. Even with an acknowledgement that the photos were false, they shouldn’t have been broadcast. (from TPM).
MSNBC anchor Dylan Ratigan apologized this morning for using fake photos of Sarah Palin last Friday in a segment about the former Alaska governor, and for not acknowledging their inauthenticity.
The pictures, which were widely circulated during last year’s presidential campaign, show Palin’s head photoshopped onto other women’s bodies. In one, “Palin” is wearing an American flag bikini and holding a rifle; in the other, the faux Palin is wearing a tight black miniskirt.
“I want to apologize to Gov. Palin and all our viewers. On Friday, in a very misguided attempt to have some fun in advance of Palin’s upcoming book, Going Rogue, our staff mistakenly used some clearly photoshopped images of Ms. Palin without any acknowledgment, and on behalf of the show I would like to say that this was completely unacceptable. We should have never used those photos in the first place,” Ratigan said today. “I apologize.”

Well, heck. I hate to tell Joe Bill and Jim Earl. After they seen those pictures they wanted Gov. Palin in the White House pronto or else down at the Pink Pony. They’ll probly go back to being on the fence about which Republican should get the White House in 2012 now.

It would do well for everybody to remember that no matter who you see on TV, or what stance they are taking, it’s very rare that you will find one that doesn’t have an axe to grind, an agenda to push, or is angling to cash in on a situation. Take it all with a grain of salt and don’t take any of them at face value.

Our tax dollars pay for Richardson’s therapy, and his medications, but Richardson and his party oppose healthcare reform to the degree they are proposing to waste billions of dollars in a colossaly stupid federal court fight to challenge any federal healthcare law on Tenth Amendment supremacy and other totally goofy grounds. Georgia has already been the subject of ridicule in several constitutional law journal articles, but *that* is hardly anything new. It wasn’t enough to waste millions of dollars getting their butts slammed in a losing water argument in federal court for Purdue and the GOPsters.
The topic of this blog was Palin, and ABC is going Faux Noise by chopping up the silly and superficial Barbara Walters interviews where you can bet their won’t be any Charlie Gibson “explain the Bush doctrine” (she couldn’t and still can’t) questions.
ABC has plans to plaster the Walters’ interviews on GMA, so-called World News, Nightline, 2020 and The View. Palin isn’t a serious contender for any office. She’s one of many GOP clown shows.

“One Muslim on the jury and that New York terrorist case is probably toast.”
A verdict of guilty does not usually require 100% agreement in the jury. In New York, imposing the death penalty DOES…but even if there’s not 100% agreement the defendent does not “walk” if found guilty: “New York: If the jury fails to reach unanimous agreement on the sentence, the court sentences the defendant to a minimum of 20 to 25 years to a maximum of life in prison (N. Y. Crim. Proc. § 400. 27). “

Let’s be specific Dusty. Everyone who thinks they can match a doctors experience by surfing, should treat themselves by surfing.
I will say this though–if you’re willing to wade through some trash and a lot of advertisements and on line fly by night (some illegitimate) pharmaceutical websites, the medical profession (mostly med centers but increasingly some high quality publicatioins like NEJM and JAMA) makes detailed information available in a much higher quality package than most other professions do.
If you know where to look you can learn quite a lot. However, that doesn’t enable you to match what a doctor can do, and that was “doggone’s” firm contention.

Yes, your level of intelligence and mastery of the english language is certainly enviable. Let me post a few of your other “more sophisticated” comments:
“The death certificate gets signed prolifically due to Republican efforts to kill people for years. We’re changing that. Glad you asked.” (I didn’t realize you were part of team Obama).

I don’t owe you jack for an apology.

“Make a fool of yourself–see how far surfing takes you on a legitimate medical question. It may answer the question on your level–but it’s not going to do it on a professional level. If it did, you could get an MD and board certification via surfing. What colossal stupidity.”
“You continue to be a coward and won’t take me on as to a medical issue. Why would that be? Could it be your collosal ignorance in the area?”

GOV OPTION,
Oh I agree with your statement that “surfing” cannot replace the knowlege and experience of doctors.
That wa my objection to currently presented policies by government officials, or the point I was trying to make. I don’t think doctors are having much of a say in the plans of health enforcement being made for Americans. Seems to me politicians are going ;to destroy a fine system of medical care by giving and forcing upon Americans the kind of mediocre care they will receive….even backing it with fines for non-compliance.
That not only gives us less that excellent healthcare, it also diminishes our freedom of choice in personal matters.

Dusty you raise a complicated situation. Most doctors do favor a public option. There are many important things that no plan is going to do but status quo is unacceptable and there will be some impact by 2013-2015.
With all due respect, the GOP espoused “plans” have been horrible. The House’s plan is no great shakes but not for the reasons most of the right wing thinks.
I strongly urge you to read on C-spans site the commentary of the doc who heads the Cleveland clinic–a thoracic surgeon who has made major inventions and contributions to thoracic surgery and equally major contributions to giving his time to go to places where the armed forces are injured and volunteer his time for years doing major surgery on them.
I’ll link it when I get back. There is also very good critique of health care plans by the doc who runs the Mayo clinic.

After reading the comments one thing is plain as day. Republican types do not like MSNBC & Democratic types to not like Fox. But, each as enough knowledge about the one they do not like to indicate that they do, in fact, watch both networks to some degree.
You might try a test I did a few years ago – I was out of work for 10 months & had some free time. Set up a schedule and watch news on a rotating basis each day. Keep a log and every time a real, important to the national interest story is aired, give that network a point. At the end of a month add up the points. News shows only, not the talking head entertainment shows like Bill O, Chris M, etc.
You will be really surprised at the results.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Government Option Done Deal,
Question: Why in the world would you want to debate anyone here on a medical issue especially on a professional level? While I find it interesting that some posters here doubt you are a doctor and very rarely take you to task on a particular issue, I think that has more to do with the subject matter you post. IMHO, they refuse to admit you’re a doctor because then they would have to admit that you have higher level thinking skills.
But, seriously, why challenge anyone here, who, other than Bruno, I’m not sure is a medical professional. I think there are a couple of nurses who sometimes post here, but really who cares if they don’t think you’re a doctor – ask them to take you to task on a political issue.
Just my two cents for what it’s worth.
(If anybody around home here reads that, they’ll know exactly who I’m talking about)
My folks drank probably double their share of corn liquor but none was ever poisoned. They all believed in the old way of making. No sugar, no metal but copper in the still, and dismantle the still and clean it after every run. That’s probably why they never made a lot of money doing it.
It was late 30’s-early 40’s when people figured out the folks in the shot houses in Atlanta and Chattanooga would drink anything that things went down hill. It became all about output and profit then. That’s when they started using old car radiators, etc.
Any of y’all without a local background ought to do a little research on “Fat Hardy Toddy”. From what I’ve been told of it though, from non-news sources, it was an accident and not done on purpose.
When JC does attempt to go to an issue he makes it up. There are no health care bills resembling anything he mentions. This is just part of the fabric of the trash that was uttered the Sat. night the House passed their bill by nutjobs like Virginia Foxx of North Carolina.
Repubs in Congress don’t care what fecal material they pull out of the place that makes it to distort health care bills. They want to keep having insurance companies run healthcare and want it to cause the #2 amount of bankruptcies in this country. They are the party of death as healthcare.
O.K. guys …….. this bantering back and forth has forced me to re-post my thoughts from this weekend for you Monday thru Friday’s who didn’t see it ……………………..
)
Dear Conservative Posters:
I have been reviewing most of the posts on this weekend thread and something just came to me. In general (there is always an exception now and then) liberals and conservatives post/debate in entirely different ways. Let me try to explain it this way.
For those over 50, do you remember the old “school yard fights” before zero tolerance and felony arrests kicked in ? Well, apply lessons from those physical fights to our verbal fights on this thread.
Boys then were like conservatives today ……….. they would size each other up, make a few challenges in a reasonable attempt to make their point and prevent further confrontation. However, if necessary the “fist fight” was on but then it was over very briefy. One would lose (bloody nose or black eye) and one would win. The important thing was the winner was satisfied and the loser also (because he knew the other guy knew he would fight). Usually, since the pecking order was now established, they would shake hands and be best friends the next day.
Girls on the other hand are like today’s liberals …………….. they would start throwing books, cussing, screaming and shrieking and then the most awful “cat fight” would errupt with the pulling of hair, scratching, tearing of clothes, etc., etc., etc. Eventually, someone would have to pull them apart or they would kill each other. Needless to say, they were enemies pretty much for life.
The point I am trying to make is that liberals and conservatives think and debate differently. Liberals really do get upset with you if you make a point they can’t handle and generally on these posts they are the one’s most involved in personal attacks on other posters. It’s really quite interesting to observe.
Just one example: Liberals love Mike Luchovich’s biting satire in his cartoons. Those are o.k. and the sharper the better. However, let a conservative do the same thing in a “word picture” on one of these threads and they really get hot. I’m sure you remember how vicious they were towards Bush when he was President but if you even dare speak ill of the “messiah” they WILL go off on you.
Just one man’s opinion ……………… and food for thought. Hope it helps.
Now get ready for the screaming and shrieking and ………………………
You mean like this:
“Like most of Europe, the various health bills stipulate that Congress will arbitrarily decide how much to spend on health care for seniors every year—and then invest an unelected board with extraordinary powers to dictate what is covered and how it will be paid for. White House budget director Peter Orszag calls this Medicare commission “critical to our fiscal future” and “one of the most potent reforms.”"
Since you’re in a mood to ask questions, let me get in a few:
Just how much money will be saved in this plan?
How will it be paid for?
In a capitalist society, how can a public company (profit seeking, shareholder pleasing) possibly compete with a govt entity?
I’ve got others I’ll ask, but I’m sure you’ve got another one or two.
I haven’t heard the term “bonded liquor” in I can’t even remember when. It was sort of like seeing some of the folks again that have passed on. They used to use that term or “government liquor”.
On your tabloid reading. Once I was in a store line with a friend and we were laughing at a headline about “75 year old woman has healthy baby”. There was an old woman in line behind us, she had to be in her 70’s anyway, she looked at me and said, “You believe that?” I looked at her dead serious and said, “No ma’am, I don’t possibly see how it could have been healthy”. She never said a word but she looked at me like I had 3 heads.
GET OUT SOLDIERS OUT OF THIS SHITE HOLE OF A COUNTRY. THEY CANNOT EVEN DEFEND THEMSELVES, MUCH LESS WIN WITH THEIR HANDS TIED AND MORE WILL DIE NEEDLESSLY.
This war is going to be looked back upon as one of the most shameful episodes in American history and Bush AND Obama will have to shoulder the blame equally. Neither are (or were) decent leaders.
I voted for Hillary in the primary in hopes that we would have the choice of an experienced leader in these threatening times.
I didn’t have a lot of confidence in a community organizer to lead a nation. Time will prove I was right to be concerned
I suspect that were Obama to give Hillary more rein, she’d be a much stronger SoS. I’d love to see Hillary go rogue on Obama.
I heard her say in an interview that she’d love to have coffee with Sarah Palin.
About Obama’s subservient bowing…..just curious…how much credibility to you give to the study of body language?
I can tell you that it’s pretty accurate in predicting oncoming episodes in children with autism. Children with Downs Syndrome, too.
There’s a reason I ask. I watched a segment on The History Channel that discussed historical staging of national leaders all the way back to FDR. Very interesting. Each country wants THEIR leaders to shine in the public eye. Maintain a powerful image.
Things like never let another leader show you the door (lead you in). Position yourself so that it’s your hand in the foreground when grasping another leader’s.
Here’s the lady who narrated the episode. Scroll down to watch her evaluate Obama’s non-verbal communication technique.
About Obama, she says “”It doesn’t really matter what he’s saying, because his voice tell you what you should be feeling about what he’s saying. The words become irrelevant. You might not even remember the word message after he’s finished speaking, but boy did you FEEL something really, really powerful.”
Funny that she compared him to a Baptist minister. Ewwww, JUST ewwwwww!!! (ISH)
I remember in the episode, it showed a video of Bush and Putin walking. Said their body language was that of two strong alpha males in fierce competition.
Body language says it all. One of my linguistics professors maintained that the verbal language evolved as a way to lie.
In training for becoming an interpreter this is a central element. You are taught to avoid at all costs the temptation to punctuate your verbal interpretations with body language. It’s really hard to accomplish and is the reason that you will note that the interpreter by protocol stands behind the speakers so as to not distract from the speakers’ body language which “needs no interpreting.”
Our special needs staff holds workshops every year for the mainstream faculty in reading body language.
josef:
We had a family visit our church this past Sunday, they’ve been once before when I wasn’t in attendance. Five kids, the youngest looked to be about 4 or 5. The older kids all left the sanctuary for children’s church. I watched the youngest in his mother’s lap. I was thinking….”That child is autistic.” I sensed he was about to experience an episode. Sure enough, his mother quickly got up and left to join the other kids.
I discreetly asked our minister if he was autistic. He’d talked with the family several times regarding some financial problems they were having. My husband talked with them too. “Not that I know of” they both said.
Sure ’nuff, turns out the child has autism. I told our minister to let the Mom know that she didn’t have to leave service every time. I’d be more than happy to accompany him to children’s church. He communicates through sign….I’m well-versed in the language.
Oprah is powerful enough to defy the more common media outlets. Maybe she can start to get a fair shake from now on. . . not on this blog and not from most of the liberals here, but new polls show her with a 76% approval rating among all Americans.
Deb, oh yes indeed it can be true and IS true…
“Aisha said, “The Apostle of Allah married me when I was seven years old.” (The narrator Sulaiman said: “Or six years.”). “He had intercourse with me when I was 9 years old.”
Abu-Dawud 2:2116
Here we see that Muhammad had sex with Aisha when she was 9 years old. Is this age confirmed by any other (Sahih) ahadith? Yes it is:
Narrated ‘Ursa: The Prophet wrote the (marriage contract) with ‘Aisha while she was six years old and consummated his marriage with her while she was nine years old and she remained with him for nine years (i.e. till his death).
Sahih Bukhari 7:62:88
Also note that Sahih Muslim says Aisha still had her dolls with her when she was taken to Muhammad’s house as a bride. Applying Ibn Hajar’s doll-playing exegesis from Part 1, it becomes clear that Aisha was pre-pubescent when she became a bride.
Therefore, it is abundantly clear from the hadiths, that Aisha was pre-pubescent when Muhammad first had sex with her on her wedding day.
He played violin and did some classical guitar…the audience went wild! It was back at the height of the Cold War and he went on a goodwill tour…”
Missed that one, josef. I actually had a chance to travel to Russia back in 1975. I was part of a Ukrainian dance group and was invited to be part of a “student exchange”. Being from a very poor family, however, the $1000+ plane ticket was out of the question.
Great memories from being in Zoria, however. All the vodka you could drink at age 14 was ok by me.
Nope. He was just dumb. I didn’t mention the part where he broke down the word “homo”genized — and then went into this spiel about how the milk was first tested on black men in the 20’s (homogenization, if I remember correctly, was “invented” in the 1890’s); and how once these black men started drinking the milk they started to become attracted to other men. He said he read it “in a pamphlet”.
I didn’t mind, like i said, i “used to” like really dumb men. You can tell them ANYTHING and they’d agree and SMILE like they understood what the hell you were saying. A big dumb man is like a big dumb dog — loveable and cuddly. Dudley, however, has ruined me for all time from becomig too attractied ever again to dumb men. So, even though he was tempting, (GAWD!!!
A somewhat on-topic Deep Thought:
Listening to a somewhat obscure comic’s podcast this morning, wherein Janeane Garofalo makes an appearance midway through, I realized something that is a bit troubling to me.
While I do not believe that Janeane Garofalo would make a great, or even terribly competent President of the US, I would prefer that she–a stand-up comic, who is admittedly “quite stupid” (her words)–assume that position than Sarah Palin. In fact, I would argue that Janeane Garofalo would be an infinitely better POTUS than would Sarah Palin.
Like I said, this is somewhat troubling to consider, but nevertheless, I do consider this to be true.
Trailer trash (or trailer park trash) is a derogatory North American English term for poor white people. The term originates from the belief that such people typically reside in trailers or mobile homes, especially in trailer parks.
This is true. I had an older sister who, for a while, called a mobile home “home.” I thought it was kind of a cool place, the one time I went to visit, actually; but then I was just a kid and there was something a bit adventurous about sleeping in a 12-foot-wide space’s spare room. So I never really got the whole business of ridiculing such residents; I always took that kind of personally. But not too much.
I mean, people will make the inevitable jokes about tornadoes seeking out trailer parks. Such jokes, they’re stupid, but they always seem to get a laugh, somewhere.
They aren’t entirely jokes. Trailer parks are dangerous in tornados and they really DO seem as if they seek out such parks. I used to live in Warner Robins, which is near Centerville and in the few years I lived there a big trailer park in Centerville was hit 3 or 4 times by tornados/high winds.
Faking a crowd? That’s a good technique for propaganda or marketing. People/mobs always want to jump on the bandwagon of whatever is popular. Make the masses believe that “everyone else” thinks something is great and they want to be a part of it. Of course, when a “news” provider does that, it is merely bad journalism.
You are comparing a personal, unwarranted attack on an individual to a 4 second clip on the show of a political pundant. But you have no problem with the personal attack.
It’s no wonder the media gets away with what it does.
HAHAHAHAHA! Classic liberal duck.
Neither the doctored photos (personal smear) nor the crowd misrepresentation (way bad journalism) were even remotely close to the hatchet job masterminded by a very biased Dan Rather. Even when the facts showed he was wrong he proceeded with the piece. I accept that both sides do a poor job of objective journalism, however, you seem to present the “facts” in a way that supports your ideology. Lame, very lame.
Hey, I’ll help you out. I’ll slow it down a little.
Hannity ran a doctored piece about the size of the crowd at a rally in an “off” election year.
Rather ran a hatchet job just weeks prior to an election in an obvious attempt to harm the re-election chances of a sitting President.
Surely a biased liberal homer such as yourself can see the difference, right? Oh, that’s right. Never mind.
So, if the photoshopped image was a personal attack against Sarah, then Hannity’s lie was a personal attack against every single person that he accused of being at a rally that they were not at. Thousands of personal attacks, using your logic.
We get continued bias on every single story.
We get the media having chills down their legs when Obama appears.
We get bills that will change the lives of every single one of us that the lawmakers are not allowed to read before they sign.
We get a President that grovels and apologizes in front foreign leaders.
We get a president that wants to push the takeover of 1/6th of our economy to be pushed through congress as quickly as possible, but so far has taken 4 months to make a decision that would save American lives in Afghanistan.
We get prisoners that were read their rights and not waterboarded to be tried in a military tribunal while the prisoners that were waterboarded will participate in a circus trial 5 blocks from the building where they slaughtered almost 3,000 Americans.
We get most liberals that can’t tell the difference between what Sarah Palin said and what Tina Faye said.
We have Newsweek that decided to run a picture of Sarah Palin that was taken for Runner’s Magizine, so she appears in runner’s shorts but strangely enough, the NOW gang has nothing to say about it.
And you are worried about a misedited 4 second video clip that was shown on a bias pundint’s show.
Well, that settles it. Sarah Palin is OUT.
it’s not like Obama has ever had an article written about him that wasn’t in the best light.
She’s back and you might as well deal with it.
But the real question is, why are liberals so up in arms if she is so “normal”. Why would the best politicians in the world be so intent on discrediting her. And better yet, why are so many liberals now giving mags like “The Nation” so much credibility?
Obviously you’re unemployed and probably on welfare. If you’re really a doctor you must work under a fascist system that forces innocent people to go to you.
