Did you know Veteran's day was celebrated in October? I just read it in this article and found it most informative.

To all the Veterans out there, reading this blog, serving anywhere in the world, God Bless you all.

There is a segment of the population that has always been supportive and appreciative of your duty, no matter the circimstances.

Have a pleasant Veterans Day, formerly known as Armistace Day. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, the armistace took effect and the guns fell silent.

We are here and able to post whatever we wish, within the guidelines of the blog, because we are free and will remain free because of those who served in the past and are now serving. Take this day off from the vitriol and partisanship. Instead, thank a soldier, thank a veteran, thank the families who waited and are waiting and most especially thank those who gave their all. Go visit the Gardens of Stone and allow the peace and beauty of those places touch your heart. They are a reminder of the ultimate sacrifice. God Bless our soldiers and all of our veterans.

Just as maybe a point of interest over 70% of Vietnam veterans were volunteers. When the Marine Corps. was forced to draft a NCO would go down the line stop and ask a draftee if he ever thought about the United States Marine Corps. he would then ask the draftee to stand in another line and think about it. The draftee's performed well for the most part.

Happy Veterans Day and Semper Fi

Turd Ferguson
November 11th, 2009

Im sure our Campaigner in Chief will be standing up running his big yap about things of which he knows nothing.

Turd, you mean like Bush and Cheney? Cheney never served and Bush served in the reserves when he felt like it. I served in the United States Marine Corps four years, beginning in 1968, and i served in Vietnam. When I first went over, I served on the DMZ and that wasn't a great place to be. Now, what service have you ever personally rendered to this nation? I suspect you are up there with war-criminal Cheney. If so, shut the hell up about what the president has to say!

Jay - I like your post today.

I think this is a first. Yay !

I'll bet the pictures of all those soldiers and guns make your liberal followers crazy. Aren't they the bunch trying to ban military recruiters on school campus? I'm sure they believe Americorps would be a much better place for young americans to be indoctrinated into the You Must Depend On The State To Care For You Union.

Thanx though.... I enjoyed the pics and captions.

To Normal:

Ha! The same thing happened the day I went in. About six of us who had enlisted in the Marines were sitting together at the induction center. About 3pm an Army Sgt. got all of the Army draftees (about 40) up in a formation and then said, "I need 10 volunteers for the Marine Corps." They looked at him like he was crazy. No one "volunteered" so he went down the line pulling every 4th guy out, re-stamped their paperwork and put them with us. They were NOT happy campers.

However, I went to boot and Nam with those guys and you couldn't tell the difference - volunteer or draftee. Why? Because when it comes right down to it (just ask anyone who has been there at the infantry eyeball to eyeball level) you are not fighting for your country, your flag, your Mom, apple pie .......... you are fighting for "each other". The rest of that stuff is the last thing on your mind when the smell of death is on you.

Semper Fi Marines. I will never forget you.
