Update on Ft. Hood shooting; 12 dead, more than 30 wounded

According to Lt. Gen. Bob Cone, commanding officer of III Corps at Ft. Hood, Texas: 12 dead, 31 wounded.

The shooter was a U.S. soldier, who was killed. FortHood2

Two other soldiers who may have been involved have been arrested. Officials believe the situation is now under control.

What a nightmare. I wouldn’t be surprised if in the end this turns out to be a solo act, a soldier who lost it.

UPDATE: The U.S. soldier in question has been identified as Major Malik Nadal Hasan.

UPDATE II: Hasan, an Army psychiatrist slated for assignment overseas, is now reported to be alive, having suffered four gunshot wounds.

God rest these soldiers souls and God help this country. They deserved way better than to be gunned down by madmen, whoever (or more appropriately, whatever) the madmen were. I know you progressives don’t care too much to any reference to God but just this once patrionize me. The “naivete and backwardness” of the reference is mine and I can deal with that.

IF this is related to Muslim extremism, these soliders blood will fall squarely into Obama’s lap. The terrorists know the weakness of his kum-ba-ya world vision and they know wherein his religious sympathies lie and they will use these against us. This may or may not be one of those times but those times are coming.

Rachel- This is an awful, rare occasion. My husband is in the military. But he is not a killing machine. He is a skilled warrior who passed all of his psych tests. All soldiers are given psych tests repeatedly throughout their service. Not all of them pass and they are then treated. Most of the men and women in the military are mental healthy. But just like any other community, there are those that aren’t. This is sad and tragic. It does not mean all of those in the military are “killing machines” and “snap”.

If Bush had been in office, he would have been CRUCIFIED for “letting this happen” and yet everyone just hollers “Peace” at Obama… I will NEVER say anything negative about our President, as God has allowed him to be placed in authority over our nation, and that position demands respect. NOT because I respect him, but b/c God commands it… That being said, folks… we need to pray for this nation… DESPERATELY… we are headed into irreversible chaos if God doesn’t get a handle on this Country… Forget God Bless America… America, Bless God!!!

It makes me sad that so many people are so quick to say something, when none of us even really know what happened. All of our soldiers are overly exhausted and some have problems yes, but that doesn’t mean that they are killing machines. They are trained to DEFEND. Grow up, would you. In a time like this people are suppose to come together like family, not make accusations of our military. And a military without guns….? Are you for real? It was worse it was home grown terrorism. One of the many ticking time bombs that have been homegrown on US soil. Facilitated by the fact that we entered into a war and failed to acknowledge and protect the ones we sent to do our bidding. We have failed these young men and women, failed to treat both their physical and mental wounds and for that we should all be ashamed. And this isn’t our current president’s fault. My children have both served in Iraq. My friends husband’s are still serving there. My other daughter’s boyfriend just left for his THIRD deployment. They have all changed because of this war. I am not sure what to say — why someone would do this and turn on their own. My daughter said that it is common overseas too — their anger goes out to each other…. BUT, not to kill each other…. It is SO sad. I agree our troops are weary. They need rest — these LONG LONG deployments for Army have to be stopped. It is destroying them and their families. My daughter was medically discharged when she returned from Iraq and she is STILL waiting for benefits 10 months later! Do you think that helps her mind –?? She is already so sick with cancer — and no money and all those years she gave to the military and Iraq — just gone! BUT, I don’t think she would go into a Post with guns and kill the very people that she needs to support her. This is sad and my heart goes out to all the famlies of these soldiers. They are ALL in my prayers and I don’t even know their names.

It sounds like there is an Islamic connection, based on the Major’s name and his reported recent conversion to Islam. We have been engaged in the wholesale slaughter of Muslims overtly for the last eight years, and covertly since the mid 60’s when JFK first gave military assets to Israel. We have to expect that Muslims will fight back. Muslims in the military need to be watched just because of the above, and especially officers who suddenly convert to Islam. We put Japanese-Americans in prison camps during WWII for just that reason. We were wrong then, but we no doubt prevented a few acts of violence. I do not advocate putitng Muslims in prison camps, but if they have guns, or are in the military, police force, or anywhere else where they can do massive damage, we must watch them carefully. We need to watch the pro israel people too, some of them have pledged that if Israel falls, they will destroy the world. I would not want one or more of them in a nuclear missile launch control center on the day Israel dies.

I find it interesting that there seems to be on one reason this soldier would kill others, that he has mental issues. Many of us veterans have different degrees of “mental” issues, including myself. We don’t go out shooting people because we have snapped or we are angry at the military. It is very possible that this shooter(s) was very lucid and knew what he was doing. He may have chosen his target for many reasons and completed the mission he set out to finish.

I agree that we need to find out what happen. We may never know why but for “God’s sake” don’t get all anti-military, anti-government or any other type of finger pointing. Shit does happen in life, that is a fact. It is not fun but when it happens it is essential that we, as a nation, support our fellow Americans. If you choose to see the shooter as a victim, that is your choice, I however don’t feel sorry for any soldier who kills his borther/sister in arms.

These shooter(s) and the troops are victims of being placed in an untenable situation. Deployment for 14 to 18 months, rotate home for sometimes less than a year; rotate back for another 14 to 18 months; have a stop-loss order placed against them, not allowing them to get out of the military.

The public is lucky these over-worked warriors have held up as well as they have. Candidly, many families have had to bear the brunt of their PTSD (Post Traumatic Syndrome).

A lot of you liberal tree hugging hippies’ comments are sick. This is not a tragedy of combat stressed soldiers. This is the story of three ignorant people that obviously have had issues since childhood. Either they weren’t held enough or they were held to much. This was planned. They new what they were doing. I am an Airborne Infantry, four time combat veteran. I can assure you that this was not a result of op tempo. PTSD does not cause three people to plot an assault like this. If they try and hide behind PTSD they are lying. All of you that believe this was do to the war, how about you experience this. This was an act of terrorism by another stupid islam extremist that described himself as a US Army Soldier

**He did not want to go back to Iraq.**

Where did you hear that he had been in Iraq?

We have to keep a level head. Those of us who have seen combat know what it can do to you. I don’t know if this Major’s reason was “religious” or not, do you? I’m just saying, don’t jump to conclusions. Instead, let’s try to work together and figure out some way to help the family. Send a donation to Fort Hood Family Services. set up a fund, anything, but leave the finger pointing to later. I’ll repeat what I said earlier. Their are families out there that are missing their soldier, and when they thought that they were safe. This is doubly painful for them. Let’s keep our eye on the ball and do what we can for those families while the authorities sort things out.

DogGoneGA-the only thing the shooter is a “victim” of is that he was a victim of the peaceful religion of islam (which was his choice).
Just curious of how you libs think…if someone drives drunk and kills someone, is that driver also a victim because someone gave him the alcohol?
When someone becomes a junkie, is that junkie also a victim because someone gave him/her the drugs to use…even though that junkie could have refused the drugs?

I f—ing hate the army. I wasted a whole year there for what?? For nothing!! Nothing changed because I was there.no terrosrists put down weapons…it’s pointless. Like I said been back two days…was driving around this morning, couldn’t sleep, kept getting welcome back text messages, so I decided to pull into first union bank (off of Stan sleuter, next to starbucks)that way I wasn’t driving and texting (being that it is sooo unsafe) and the employee tells me to get my “black ass” out of his parking lot because he was about to open the bank?? I told him I’m nit used to driving yet just hot back from deplyment, you think he cared??? No !! He said he was going to call the cops!! It was 730 am and the bank didn’t open til 8, nobody was even awake yet. You see this is the type of REAL thanks us soldiers get!! Civilians only care when someone you know is directly involved or thru only care about our “PTSD” for a day when you see tragedies on the news!! This us my reality, and Im not even a muslim, just a normal black girl, trying to get re-accustomed to America!! This is my thanks??? !!

Right on, Annie.

Liberal PC is costing lives. Don’t think they’ll change their misguided views though.

“It’s what you are. You can’t help it.”

and I’m proud of it. I grieve just as much for him and his family as I do for all the other victims.

Tragic doesn’t even begin to define.

I have one request. Can we, at least, find out the names of those soldiers who were murdered and wounded before the liberals here start changing their own names to make political hay.

Hee haw.

Pathetic. ABSOLUTELY!

So . . . Hmmm. The shooter is dead.

So how do they know what he was thinking?

I know. I’m just thinking too much. We shouldn’t question the Mainstream Media. Bad me. I’ll try to do better.

Soldier, if you hate the military so much, why did you join? Sounds like you’re blaming others for your decision.
