I love oldtime black gospel; when I’m in the house alone, I’ll put on a couple of CDs and crank it loud and lose myself in the power and the glory. Gospel provided the foundation of soul music, jazz, blues, R&B and rock ‘n’ roll, but none of those genres ever outshines the original form.
Some of the best of the archival material was collected and made available by the Smithsonian, such as this piece. Those of you who know your Dylan will recognize it immediately.
But here’s a song more apropos of this rainy Friday, by the inimitable Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Didn’t it rain, didn’t it rain. If this don’t get your spirit and your feet moving, call the coroner cuz you dead.

Normal for tomorrow:
Ok Normal it’s a tear jerker, (classic “chick” flick). It was originally done in the 30’s, however the most classic rendition is with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr. The greatest line of the film is “It’s the closest thing to heaven that we have in New York.” (when talking about the Empire State Building.

Here’s a new take on gospel music by Mr. Franklin. Some say “he goes too far”; but if you look at the history of gospel music, they once said the same thing about Thomas Dorsey….

Section 2531, entitled “Medical Liability Alternatives,” establishes an incentive program for states to adopt and implement alternatives to medical liability litigation. [But]…… a state is not eligible for the incentive payments if that state puts a law on the books that limits attorneys’ fees or imposes caps on damages.
We wouldn’t want to do that, mmm, mmmm, mmmmm!

It’s the Tsa-la-gi national anthem…they sang it as they bade farewell to their homes and set out on the Trail of Tears… Unmentionable and I have had many conversations along this line…his bottom line is, well, “but, then, I would not have met you…” He does point out that down this way we have Pocahontas for a role model, forget the sharing the turkey, share the blanket! He says the problem was that the black and white folks started coming to fast to “f” ‘em all!
Staple Singers! Love ‘em. When I was growing up they came every year to headline Mississippi Homecoming…

“…but is it the man or his faith you find worthy of sarcasm?” those are the only two options you can think of? you can’t even add his sh&tty singing or the cringe-inducing mawkish delivery to the options?
please spend the weekend studying and maybe attempt some more rhetorical questions next week. they need some work.

Jay, for your black gospel library get the CD from the old PBS program “Say Amen, Somebody”. It is the mainly the story of Thomas Dorsey, who many consider the father of black gospel. (There is a Dorsey museum in Villa Rica, his hometown, you can check out).
The man was active in the business for over 70 years.
