And of course the suggestion that Obama is "apologizing" is perhaps the most reviled aspect of the antipathy towards the U.S. that Republicans project. The attitude that one would rather be "admired" or "have a job" is as simplistic as the Republicans are.

Every boss knows that being "admired" by his employees is essential to have his business function. If not, three or four people can destroy a business and the owners or the supervisors will not even see it coming.

Without the admiration and respect of other nations, the U.S. would be a third rate and third world power. That is what leadership is about.

The fact that George H.W. Bush worked to get some respect from the rest of the world is what won the Gulf War as well as got other nations to pay for 85 percent of the cost. His son failed to do that, and we are now celebrating the eight anniversary of a war that could have been finished seven years ago had America been admired under Dubya.

However those who used to come to the United States, such as students from the Middle East, and Russians looking for a better economic life have stopped coming.

This switch isn't all that unusual. When Reagan was president, the U.S. took its first really large hit as and admired nation with U.S. popularity falling below what it was even during the Vietnam war.

Bill Clinton is still hugely admired in Europe and Asia. Republicans tend not to be very popular, largely because of their attitude that other nations should simply obey the U.S. and place U.S. interests higher than those of their own people.

What is rather more disliked has been the U.S. attitude under Republicans that the U.S. has repeatedly saved the world for noble, rather than self interest. Particularly over the issue of WWII. The Russians probably did more to save more of Europe from the Nazi's yet this is little recognized.

On the whole the Republican idea that the U.S. can somehow do without other nations is responsible for a lot of these attitudes. But largely the rebuilding of Europe after WWII was as much in American economic interests as it was in the Europeans. Even moreso. We needed their markets to sustain our economic output far more than they really needed the U.S. after the war.

Would you rather be the most admired nation or have a job? My guess is Obozo want to be admired, and to he** with us. Why don’t these idiots concentrate on creating jobs? Oh that’s right he wants to be popular, not correct. There is a difference and I would rather be correct, unpopular and have a job……

Liberals and hollywood are siblings! Image over substance. Obama apologized to every country he visited or discussed. He even bowed to a King! Yes, you do not need leadership when you have good image and the world might love you.

I think Jay Bookman must get his polls off the walls in public bathrooms. Anyone who has world travel experience beyond just going to the tourist attractions knows that it's envy not admiration in foreign countries. Obama appears weak to the rest of the world and they like a weakened America.

Let's wait and see what the final bill has in it, if they can manage to get one passed. It's a work in progress.

They're having a good discussion on health care now on C-NBC.
