Huckabee: Let’s run the UN out of the country

Conservative activists gathered in St. Louis over the weekend for the “How to Take Back America” conference, a phrase that always raises a question: “Take it back from whom?”

The conference was hosted by luminaries such as Phyllis Schlafly and Joseph Farah of World Net Daily, featuring speakers such as Joe The Plumber, U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann and Georgia’s own contribution to the cause, U.S. Rep. Tom Price of Roswell.

Among the workshops offered to conference participants were “”How to Recognize Living Under Nazis and Communists,” led by 83-year-old Kitty Werthmann, who grew up in Austria and believes that Obama is following the path carved out by Hitler.

“First they nationalized the banks. Then they nationalized education. As time went along, they nationalized health care,” Werthmann told an opening press conference.

The highlight of the convention Saturday night was a speech by former Arkansas Gov. and GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, who targeted the United Nations and argued that it ought to be run out of the country.

“It’s time to get a jackhammer and to simply chip off that part of New York City and let it float into the East River, never to be seen again!” Huckabee said, inspiring a standing ovation.

“It’s time to say enough of the American taxpayer’s dollar being spent on something that may have been a noble idea, but has become a disgrace!” said Huckabee. “It has become the international equivalent of ACORN and it’s time to say enough!”

“Let’s end the diplomatic excesses that these people enjoy. Let any country that is willing to spend the money that the United States is hosting–let them have it. Give it to the Saudis and let these diplomats suck the sand out of the Saudi desert for a few summers and see if that’s where they’d like to go, and make their ridiculous speeches.”

It seems to me that in trying so hard to woo the hard core of the hard-core GOP base, Huckabee is also disqualifying himself permanently from a role in mainstream national politics. You get the sense that it’s a conscious choice on Huckabee’s part, perhaps driven by economic considerations. Hell never be president, but he’s guaranteeing himself a future income stream as a far-right darling.

Or as a recent article comparing Obama and Reagan points out:

It must have been such a luxury not to have a 24 hour cable news cycle under Reagan or his Presidency would have been deemed a failure within the first year of his Presidency. Unemployment topped 10 percent. Approval ratings fell to 35%. The deficit exploded due to tax cuts benefitting the wealthy. Yet, Republicans hold him up as the gold standard of Presidents. Compared to Reagan, President Obama walks on water, because the situation that President Obama inheritted is much worse than Reagan’s since unemployment did not start dropping until several months into Reagan’s first year….

Public approval of President Reagan’s handling of his job increased significantly last month for the first time in more than a year, according to the Gallup Poll. Key factors in the rise were enhanced support of Mr. Reagan from Republicans and independents.

Forty percent of the public approved of his job performance in a poll conducted from Feb. 25 to 28, up from 35 percent in January. The last time that the Gallup Poll measured an increase of more than one percentage point was in October 1981, when approval of Mr. Reagan rose to 56 percent from 52 percent the month before. These polls have a margin of sampling error of three percentage points.

There was some indication in the poll that belief that the economy was improving helped Mr. Reagan’s standing. Two-thirds of those who approved, but only one-sixth of those who disapproved

By 1983 Reagans approval ratings were down to 35 percent.

Paul,

I LOVE stepping on ant hills – it brings out the daring adventuror in me.

I read all but about the first 50 pages or so. Those Brown books suck me in – all that religion symbology and conspiracy theory stuff – and bad guys. And you don’t know who the good guy is (or you start to suspect) – but it’s NEVER who you think it is.

Isn’t “koorc” a Klingon word?

Jackie, true dat, but I have to believe even these goofballs realize that going all in with no hand to speak of is sheer lunacy.

I would imagine they’ll find some other “rising star”, i.e. youngish neo-con buffoon.

But that Uppity Chairman Michael “man of” Steele looks like quite the idiot these days after :
he touted four Republicans under the age of 50 as rising stars in the party.

“The Louisiana Flash” Booby Jindal, Mark “The South American Banger” Sanford, Tim “Who” Pawlenty and of course Sarah BarraClueless.

Well, when you write [[I don’t recall all the “constantly going to court” and the “contrived accusations” would you please enlighten me with some facts?? wink wink!]] to a Palin fan it can easily be interpreted as taunting. Wingnuts are obsessed with everyone who has balls and stands up to the U.S. especially when it comes to not allowing American corporations create the American way of life on their countries resources and on the backs of their people.

Look at every nation that the United States has had a beef with in the last decade. Everyone of them said no thanks to American petroleum companies and nationalized their own oil to provide money for their own people. Iran, Iraq, and Venezuela have two things in common. Oil and leaders who decided to nationalize that resource. We have to be more careful with Russia. They did the same thing, when Putin nationalized their oil, paid off their debt to the United States and took decided that American oil companies would no longer be allowed to make money off of a national asset. But Russia has nukes.

That’s ’cause we’re only a few days past Saturday night bath time. But just you wait until midweek or so…

Was listening to the radio on my drive this weekend. After all the angst a few years back about not being able to ship body armor and armored humvees and such fast enough, I’m amazed that when a commander asks for more soldiers so hopefully so many won’t get killed, a months-long imposed delay is considered a good thing.

Speaking of DeLay, I saw he got voted to return on that dancing show. Is this a great country or what? :-)

**PORLAMAR, Venezuela – Venezuela’s science and technology minister said his country is working with Russia to detect deposits of uranium but withdrew an earlier denial that the country was also working with Iran.

Jesse Chacon originally denied the reports that Venezuela is receiving support from Iran to seek uranium, but clarified later Saturday that his comments were only in regard to Russia and that exploration efforts with Iran fall under the direction of Venezuela’s Mining Ministry.

Mining Minister Rodolfo Sanz said Friday Iran is helping Venezuela to detect uranium deposits and that initial evaluations suggest reserves are significant. His announcement was made the same day world leaders criticized the Islamic republic for secretly building a uranium-enrichment plant that could be used to make an atomic bomb.**

Yep, looks like Obama has really has had a big, BIG diplomatic breakthrough with the Russians. Chavez, Iran, Russia and enriched uranium; a marriage made in heaven (or hell, depending upon your viewpoint). Only way it could be better if N. Korea was thrown in. Oh yeah that’s right, they are currently only supplying “conventional” arms to Chavez.

This country is being led by ideaological morons. Name your party.

By the way would you mind showing were about you got that Idea as all I said was that i do not consider you smart.

Not that you would care or should care for my opinion about you.

But it does make you look like a crying jack@ss, to whine so much when others claim to know your inner thoughts, only to do it yourself.

Mrs. Godzilla,
Thank you for not walking out on my response. Guess thats more of what makes you smarter than us all.

And dramatic, dramatic you say…… well I’ve never.

Is it the same kind of drama as posting a completely unrelated poll about assasinating the Pres. just to make people a little affraid?

And of course, Iran now has the Reagan provided missile technology to use any weapons it might get with.

Before Reagan had Israel provide those missiles, the Iranian missile technology was just behind the South Carolina Fireworks industry. Reverse engineering the throttles on the TOW missiles we sold them during Iran Contra has allowed Iran to become second only to the United States in missile sales. They sell to everyone we won’t
