The first time I ever heard of Bruce Springsteen was freshman year at Penn State. Some kid from New Jersey brought up the name in a conversation, bragging that this Springsteen guy was going to be the biggest thing in rock and roll since Dylan and the Beatles.
Right, I thought. Because those Jersey guys would NEVER exaggerate, especially about Jersey things.
Then “Born to Run” came out, and they went and put the guy on the cover of Time magazine, and then on Wednesday the guy turned 60. Some other stuff may have happened in between, but I’m getting too old to remember.
(By the way, this guy shares a 9/23 birthday with Springsteen, and he’s pretty damn cool in his own right.)

I had hoped that this tune would cease to resonate as it once did.
Alas, we’re still left asking that awful question.

I don’t know Bill, Darkness on the Edge of Town was pretty good, though a bit dreary. After that Bruce bit it big time. I do however think the song “Glory Days” may be very applicable to many of the 60’s progressives who hang out here. “Oh to live on, Sugar Mountain” so to speak.

Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) received a handwritten note Thursday from Joint Committee on Taxation Chief of Staff Tom Barthold confirming the penalty for failing to pay the up to $1,900 fee for not buying health insurance.
Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor and could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 penalty, Barthold wrote on JCT letterhead. He signed it “Sincerely, Thomas A. Barthold.”-Politico

Wyld Hytler,
Your pining for the good ol’ days of Born to Run is heartbreaking. Typical stuck-in-the-past conservative stupidity. You can’t adapt or evolve.
The Ghost of Tom Joad is massive in every sense. But, just like diplomacy, you don’t have the capacity to understand it.

Congras to another Dem in the Senate. Sen. Paul Kirk (D-MA) was just sworn in by Vice President Joe Biden, to serve in the Senate until the Massachusetts special election in January. As always in election litigation, the courts ruled against Repubs in Mass. trying to stop this.

Kyl: ‘I Don’t Need Maternity Care.’ Stabenow: ‘Your Mom Probably Did’
Just before the Senate Finance Committee wrapped up for the long weekend, members debated one of Sen. Jon Kyl’s (R-AZ) amendments, which would strike language defining which benefits employers are required to cover.
Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) argued that insurers must be required to cover basic maternity care. (In several states there are no such requirements.)
“I don’t need maternity care,” Kyl said. “So requiring that on my insurance policy is something that I don’t need and will make the policy more expensive.”
Stabenow interrupted: “I think your mom probably did.”
The amendment was defeated, nine to 14.
Here’s the deal. The Repubozos want to micromanage the pregnancy. But they don’t want insurance companies to pay for the care, and they are fine with throwing the baby in the dumpster after delivery.

It is easy for extremely rich musicians to be liberal AMVET. A grand in taxes to them means nothing. A grand in taxes to the average American is a burden. The real coup is that they identify themselves with “Regular” Americans and you saps fall for it. It’s easy to be liberal when you are rich.
What about Al Gore backing a company that builds hybrid cars which only the “rich” can afford (90 grand per car) and these car’s will be built in Finland? No American union jobs, just money for another Capitalistic company wanting to make money. Funny thing is, this company also just got a 500 million dollar grant from us American taxpayers to develop a car that is targeted for the rich. This global warming thing is great, isn’t it? And Al is making more and more every day off of it. If I didn’t know better, I would swear that Al is an evil, capitalism loving charlatan. Wouldn’t you Amvet?
