Maybe we need something a little lighter to end the day.
Joe Wilson’s wife, Roxanne, recalls the night of Obama’s speech to Congress, and the moment she learned of her husband’s impending fame.
“Joe called me after the speech and I said, ‘Joe, who’s the nut who hollered out ‘You lied’, or ‘You liar?’ And he goes, ‘It was me.’ And I said, ‘No, really, who did it?’ I couldn’t believe Joe could say that.”
She also says she’s deeply appreciative that Obama accepted her husband’s apology. She seems like a classy lady, and it’s past time to let this one go.

I’m over it. I think the media should not waste any more ink or breath on it. But, by the same token, I hope the voters of South Carolina remember at election time that their representative failed to mind his manners, and what’s more, he voted against health care reform that would give them and their families accessible, affordable coverage.

Seems to me Pres Obama’s been setting the classy example on this one – as he had throughout his campaign and into his presidency.
Maybe someday more members of the Democratic Party will catch up.

Politicians demean the American people every time they congregate there.

md-No,it is yet to be determined whether Wilson is a “bad boy” until after congress concludes investigative hearings. Gibbs stated today the WH won’t comment until then, but speculates a stern talking to or time out might be in order.Gibbs also stated sending Wilson to bed without dinner is an option still on the table, along with no TV for a week.

I’d be interested in how Jay interprets the racist signs and the racist Birther meme. I haven’t seen him say. I’d be happy to post links to the signs if you need to be reminded.
I’m not sure that misplaced protesting against a restaurant named Sambo’s Hef (there are several in the US right now) has much relevance to the wide spread racism being expressed against Obama.
What is happening is that rage at things that aren’t remotely Obama’s fault are being channelled into the deep and long held racist views by white ignorants.
And here’s what’s ironic. Much of the rage is being projected because of the economic situation and Republicans are right in the forefront of the fight to prevent economic reform to protect Wall Street. And though no mention of it on these threads, Judge Jed Rakoff made a powerful statement for financial reform on Monday when he flatly rejected the agreement the SEC proposed to make with Citicorp to mask the people who awarded bonuses and made decisions at Lehman and Citicorp that harmed so many stockholders and the public.

For the record, it’s not unusual for members to go to the well of the House to make an apology when they make a statement in the House that’s out of character for the institution. Wilson not only offended President Obama, but he offended many in the House (as well as broke the rules of the House), and he offended many who were watching the speech. If he hadn’t limited his apology to Mr. Obama, while ignoring everybody else, its more likely that this nonsense wouldn’t still be news.

I’d suspect that now that the House leadership has had their moment, they’ll let it pass. Especially considering the Senate Finance Committee has written in enforcement provisions for proof of citizenship, something the House rejected each time Republicans (or moderate Democrats) tried to get it considered.
Y’know, this episode strikes me as entirely consistent with Speaker Pelosi’s ‘payback’ personality. Not surprising, given her background, learning from her political father, as she kept a notebook of those who crossed him who were, at some future point, going to experience an unpleasant payback.
From USA Today: “Pelosi, who learned politics in the front room of her family’s corner row house in Baltimore’s working class Little Italy, said in a recent pre-election interview. Like her five older brothers, “Little Nancy” took turns keeping a “favor file” for her father, Thomas D’Alesandro, Jr., a Democratic congressman and mayor.”
Maybe ‘vindictive’ is a better word.

Mathews asked Tucker a minute ago what white biggots/racists (it’s futile to separate them) meant by “let’s keep up the battle.” It’s not about policy–it’s the culture war exactly as Cynthia Tucker just said. A lot of people can’t handle the fact that a black man is tasked with cleaning up messes they didn’t pay attention to while their white heroes were making them. These same people wouldn’t last long in a job with a black boss or black bosses either.
A big percent of the signs at rallies and 100%of the stupid Birther movement that thrives in the poorly educated South and North are racist
Interesting that after weeks of collecting money from insurance companies–hundreds of thousands, the 3 Republicans wouldn’t even show up when Blue Dog Baucus announced his crappy plan.

I agree with Paul. While I am no fan at all of Obama’s policy nor his affiliations (which Paul did not state and which is my opinion), he has at least had the class not to stoop to the level that Maureen Dowd, John Stewart, Bill Maher and some of the liberal politicians have had and that is to delve into the muck of race relations as a political tool. On the other hand, with driven people like Rahm Emanuel and Axlerod in his Cabinet, I do not think it is beyond the realm of possbility that Obama’s advisors, with or without his consent, wouldn’t use it as a political tactic by subtle “leaks” or “talking points” from the Whitehouse to the press. Obama should have chosen his people a lot more carefully. I think history may record that Obama was a decent man with good intentions but he was surrounded by scheming and corrupt people and organizatons and he will carry the burden of blame because after all, he chose them. The “buck stops here” so to speak. Too bad. The sorry truth of the matter is that the political human wastes in Congress and all the rest of the far left progressives are going to, in their own way, sell Obama down the river. And they, like the Energizer Bunny, will go on, and on and on and on, administraton after administration. Meanwhile, the country will suffer and further deteriorate. Stewart and Maher just love political turmoil. It is literally the bread and butter on their plate.

Jimmy “The Tool” Carter won’t let it go. A former president of the United States, showing the world just exactly how stupid the American people were when they elected this idiot.
Well, times have changed, but that moron Carter has not. Like all liberals, when asked to provide FACTS (like something showing Wilson is in fact, a racist) to justify the accusation, they present the accusation itself as their ‘fact’.
Obowo accepted the apology. The behavior by Wilson in his disrespect for the office was tasteless. He would have been better served showing disrespect on cable TV, where all politicians claim after the fact that they ‘were misrepresented’, or ‘taken out of context’, tape be damned. But, nothing has yet been proven to show that his disagreement is based on race.
Carter however, has shown once more that he is an addled old fool, beating the broken drum of ‘racism, racist‘, pick one.
Racism accusations are the last line of a liberal’s defense of the indefensible. It has, in this case, no proven merit, no proven fact, no nothing.
Prove it Carter, or just shut the hell up.
