Travelin’ down the road like a rollin’ stone

Bob Dylan, soon to be a crooner of Christmas songs for charity, remains a performer of intensity and originality even at age 68.

For the seven weeks from mid-April through the first week of June, Obama’s weekly Gallup Poll approval rating among independents ran in the 60-to-70 percent range. But in four of the past five weeks, it has been only in the mid-to-high 40s. Meanwhile, Democrats and liberals seem lethargic even though Republicans and conservatives are spitting nails and can’t wait to vote.

Yup. Scary, huh? Wonder if he’s taken one of those Alzheimer’s tests..

Bit of cleanup from the cryptic post – I was on my way out to my own lunch date. I’ll rearrange a bit:

Regarding using EVIL instead of DICK :

DICK’s the real name, you speak in code (EVIL). To get Evil, you start with Dick and

First letter after D: That’s E. Put it in the first position.

Take the i. Move the i so there’s a space between letters. You have E i.

(no letter substitutions – just move it a position to throw’em off.)

Take the c from Dick and turn it sideways and squeeze it: Roll it counterclockwise a quarter so it looks like a U. Then squeeze the sides and it looks like a V.

Shift the V one position to the left. You have Evi.

Take the k. Cut off everything but the vertical line. That gives you l.

You got Evil from Dick.

So your’re really saying “Did you know Cheney is Dick?”

Gotta be a moonbat thing.

And as far as that truther Czar the Pres needs to fire: we weren’t really in round one, as you were still reading the material to form your opinion. Since you didn’t start out by saying “He’s a Democrat!!! But… but… look at what Bush did!!!!” so you really can’t be a moonbat, eh?

Okay, this czar thing – would you actually go out on a limb and say he’s in the Obama administration? I mean, technically isn’t there a gajillion people in the Obama administration and so this one guy whose assistant regional manager to the secretary of environmental stuff signed an on-line petition five years ago and now he needs to be fired? I’m just not feeling it the same way as I do for Cheney being evil and all, but then again, I am a hypocritical moonbat.

Give it up Reform. At least on this one. Stick a big old fork in the House Reform turkey because it is done. Save your energy for something more productive like, let’s get our @$$’s out of these two crummy wars we are embroiled in and bring our troops home. If you fall for the old “House sends President an Ultimatum” trick offered up here by Pelosi and friends, you are to be pitied. They are signing a letter only to show that they signed a letter so they can find political cover with their liberal base later on. The public option is a goner as is most everything else the House wanted in the bill. They should have included Republicans from the beginning and they would have been a lot more successful (seems that is they way the system is supposed to work, isn’t it?). Obama either learns this or he is toast.

You are correct. There are a gazillion people in the Obama Administration. Most are part of the permanent bureaucracy – they’re the lifers of the Civil Service. Then there are the few political appointees – those who get appointed to positions by the incoming Pres and who leave when he leaves. Unless, like Gates, they get asked to stay.

The really high-level ones, like Cabinet officials, report to the Pres but have to respond to Congress. Executive privilege doesn’t apply. The FBI investigates them, the Senate confirms them.

The guy’s one of the Czars. The Pres has taken these numbers to a whole new height (Pres Obama does seem to like really big numbers, doesn’t he?). FBI doesn’t have to do a background check. Senate doesn’t have to confirm them Reports directly to the Pres. Congressional committee heads can tell them to appear for questions and they can tell Congress to stick it.

When we first started with these positions there was all kinds of criticisms as they had cabinet-level responsibilities with none of the accountability to Congress.

So the guy’s not some low-level whacko. He’s a whacko at the very highest levels of the Executive. A Czar. A guy serving at the pleasure of the President, working directly for him, who thinks the Bush Administration let 9-11 happen so thousands of Americans could die and Bush could go to war.

There is just no justification for a whacko like that to hold such a high-level position. People like him should be shunned. Not put in the highest positions of power and responsibility.

He should resign. If he doesn’t get fired first.

Senate doesn’t have to confirm them Reports directly to the Pres. Congressional committee heads can tell them to appear for questions and they can tell Congress to stick it.

You’re describing all the guys Bush shoved in at DOJ like Bradbury who wrote the Torture Memos and was never confirmed by Congress as “Acting” Chief of OLC. Bush was an aficianado of not confirmed by Congress.

You’re also describing the hundreds of signing statments Bush did saying he didn’t have to follow any laws congress passed.

From Greg Sargent:

http://theplumline.whorunsgov.com/health-care/white-house-polling-memo-omits-numbers-showing-support-for-public-option/

The White House is circulating an upbeat polling memo citing a bunch of public surveys showing that public opinion still tilts heavily in Obama’s favor on health care.

* The memo cited a CBS poll from September 1st, saying it found strong support for action. What does it say on the public plan? Sixty percent support, 34% oppose.

* The memo cited a CNN poll done through August 31st, saying it found deep public dismay with the system. What does it say on the public plan? Fifty-five percent support, 41% oppose.

* The memo cited a Kaiser poll from August 11th, saying it found overwhelming support for consumer protections. What does it say on the public plan? Fifty nine percent support, 38% oppose.

So glad to read your good comment on THE czar that should be removed. Unfortunately, I do not think he will go.. Obama seems to be a follower, not a leader. And those behind the scenes have gotten these appointments all”sewed up”.

Obama can make a good speech but I do not believe hw writes any of them. I tried to have confidence in Obama but that is no longer possible.

I attended a luncheon with a liberal today, a well educated woman, quite active in university affairs. She was upset that school children might miss the president’s speech. But she also said she believed that Bush knew about 9/11 before it happened. As she was the hostess, I kept my disagreement low key. It wasn’t easy.

I think Obama made it through Chicago politics the same way he made it to the White House. Using the toughness of others and able to present it with great speaking ability, abundant charisma and the machine working behind him brought it about.

Considering that the problems that Bush dropped on this country for eight years will take generations to fix, I’d get real used to it Paul.

One thing about the Repubos–they are stars at stupid litigation that wastes millions of dollars Georgia doesn’t have to waste.

First it was Handel and her stupid ideasto supress votes–she spent million on outside counsel and got knocked flat on her ample sized butt.

Then it was Purdue who litigated the water with a huge supreme court precedent already in place–$8 million on outside counsel and he got knowcked flat on his ample butt.

And now it’s the two clowns Chip Rodgers and Judson Hill–Rodgers from Woodstock, not Marietta–AJC gets mixed up as to facts these days–who want to pass a law that Georgia doesn’t have to follow the law if Congress passes health care reform based on their whackjob perception of the Tenth Amendment. If they passed this goofy law, DOJ would take them on and their “Tenth Amendment” argument would never touch the long line of current Supremacy/Federalism cases that have decided issues when a state balks at carrying out federal laws that instruct Health and Human services, Medicare, and insurance companies to do x, y, and z. There are also a strong line of Commerce Clause cases in the Supreme Court that would defeat them 9-zippy zip.

Bring it on–it’s great entertainment and it’s only the Repubozo tradition of wasting millions on litigation they are bound to lose and should have known from the start.

Unfortunately for those who enjoy the entertaining whackjob antics of Repubozos, they would never succeed in amending the Georgia constitution because this would require 2/3 of the House and 2/3 of the Senate and they ain’t got near that in votes.

During the Terrorist attacks Bush who had his butt sitting in a 3rd grade classroom (Gasp–a Preisdent talkin’ to da kids in mah countruh) did nothing. He did nothing to warn or take the hijackers off No-Fly lists when in fact most of them were flagged to be on them by the FBI. The order was countermanded (source The Shadow Factory by Jim Bamford by a Bush whackjob at CIA who said the attacks would be in Asia–slight miscalucation.

Condi ignored warnings of attacks and refused to translate the interceptions until 9/12/01–too late. Cheney has done more damage to this country than any individual in history. They both left foreign policy in shambles, and made the US more hated than in any time in history.

Bush and Cheney travel abroad now at their own peril.

[[Kinky friedman is now a democrat? How did you wingnuts lose him?]]

They lost lots of entertaining types. I, for one, am glad he’s running. Someone I can vote for!

Well, he couldn’t do climate change here so he took it to the Mideast -

How was the meatloaf? Believe it or not, that’s how I like it – lotsa ketchup on top baked to a crust.

As I said, the people are not known for patience.

The majority of ‘em aren’t known for brains either, and are way too lazy to read. Their grasp of history is exactly on a par with the people Leno interviews when he goes to the street who can’t name 3 states including their own.

Ladies and gentlemen, I believe that in your review of the finer products of the Kentucky distilling craft, the name Woodford Reserve somehow went unmentioned, a ghastly oversight that I must hasten to correct. It is the house bourbon of the Bookman residence, preferred on the rocks, and I am proud to serve it to special guests.

However, Mr. Matarotz, there will be no Woodford Reserve for you. You cut me, suh, you cut me to the quick. I’ll have you know that by 7:30 this morning, I was moderating a debate among the candidates for Atlanta mayor. (I’m also glad to report that all four acquitted themselves well.) With Monday a holiday and the rhythms of the journalism business being what they are, I then spent much of the rest of the day researching and writing a column on Afghanistan for publication Tuesday.

It may not have been labor equivalent to plowing the south 40 with Sarah the family mule, but it is sufficient to allow me to enjoy my Labor Day weekend, and my Woodford Reserve should I choose to indulge, in good conscience.

For this particular evening, however, I am delving into a supply of Colombian rum provided by a kindly Colombian friend, and I plan to ply my lovely bride with a mojito or two. It is not a drink in my usual repertoire, but through the magic of Google I have acquired some guidance in the art. With a little Gene Ammons playing on the stereo — http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mpwSp8GfkM — I don’t think I can go wrong.

So friends, I hope your own evening is going just as well as mine. Well, I hope that for everyone except that Matarotz fellow.

Indeed suh. Indeed. Harrumph.
