Do not trust anyone who invokes god as a reason to do things. It is only because they have no good reason to justify an agenda of their own, and can only hope to do so by invoking their own interpretation of religions that suit them.

We're dropping the clowns who are the Senate Finance Six and shutting the whorehouse down. As long as insurcance and big pharma think they have a sweet deal going, they'll keep pouring in money to the whores. Dems can go it alone and we will.

They're getting the money to do this, explained perfectly by Bog Herbert in NYT this morning, and we're not going to let this happen, even to the Katy Abram clones that are all over this comment section. We aren't going to let you lose your insurance because your employer and YOU can't afford it. We aren't going to let you lose access to medicines you need.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/18/opinion/18herbert.html?_r=1&pagewanted=print

Right now, the insurance companies and Big Pharma think they've rolled Obama and Rahm for a sweetheart deal that will bring healthy young people into their system by force, and allow the price of drugs to go up exponentially by keeping Medicard's big buy volume from negotiating lower prices.

It ain't happening.

USinUK, use you fried google and find out how many tribes have controlled this area since the bronze age. You will see their was no continous Palestinian authority controlling this land. Those that took control over this land did not consider themselves to be Palestinian or Philistine, they were just tribes that battled other tribes for the land. Just as England lost the battle for America, those in the region of Palestine lost the battle for Palestine and several groups have controlled it since. If that is not correct I will admit it. Many countries can show a history of leaders, ours starts with George Washington, who was the president/elected leader, of Palestine in 1789 ?

USinUK, please use your friend google and see how many differant tribes, or peoples, have controlled the area since the bronze age. It would be one thing if the Philistines settled, and kept control of, a Palestine. That did not happen and the last war that was fought was won by Israel. Could you tell me how many tribes fought for and won control of this area ? You jumped from 1200 bc to the 1920's, can you tell us who all controlled it in between ? Mexico lost Texas, can they come back now and claim it ?

Just about everyone agrees there is a need. The question is how do you go about it.

I like this approach:

USinUK

Before I go - a couple years back there was a movement to reduce the rigorousness of The Knowledge exam because it unfairly discriminated against new minority Brits (yeah, that was the allegation). If I recall correctly, it takes about two year's of study to pass the exam.

Any idea what came of it?

In the US, as in NYC, we have a much better system. We sell the right to be a cabbie. Medallions and such.

Don’t confuse support of Israel with any affection for the Jewish people. It’s the real estate and it’s neo-conservativly, King James Bible interpreted, implications that these folks are interested in. As for the Jews, they really couldn’t care much less. The only people “they” care for less than the Jews are any Arabs/Muslim/Palestinian people (they all look the same).

Paul -

"Typo? Didn’t you mean “Bush’s military records”?"

dear, you're a bit confused ... it was the RIGHT who said Clinton was unfit to be CiC because he never served.

the left questioned Bush's military records because, while he should have been in Viet Nam, he used his daddy's contacts to get a cushy position in the National Guard ... until he was supposed to show up for a drug test ... then, suddenly, his records grow suspiciously hazy ...

"let’s not even pick up on the mantra we heard for years that Bush had no moral right to order military to combat to get wounded and killed because he’d never really served"

I hang around a lot of lefty places (Atrios, TPM, TBogg, etc) - no one I've read has opposed Bush because he didn't serve. Heck, they didn't oppose his operations in Afghanistan ... opposition arose when he took us into Iraq because it had nothing to do with 9/11.

and with that, I'm heading upstairs.
