To Huckabee, Palestinians just an obstacle to God’s plan?
JERUSALEM — Former U.S. presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee said Tuesday there is no room for a Palestinian state “in the middle of the Jewish homeland” and Israel should be able to build settlements wherever it wants — taking a stance firmly at odds with Washington.
Speaking to a small group of foreign reporters in Jerusalem, Huckabee, seen as a possible Republican presidential candidate in 2012, said the international community should consider establishing a Palestinian state some place else.
“The question is should the Palestinians have a place to call their own? Yes, I have no problem with that. Should it be in the middle of the Jewish homeland? That’s what I think has to be honestly assessed as virtually unrealistic.”

This is pretty crap writing, even for Jay.
Huckabee said nothing at all about “God’s plan”. He is taking an extreme position that Israel and the occupied territories are solely “Jewish homelands”, but he gives no religious basis for this position.
This is actually quite a non-story, so I guess Jay felt the need to make it more interesting by flatly putting words in Huckabee’s mouth.
It’s bad enough that Jay is incapable of any meaningful analysis and has resorted to the lazy tactic of lamely attacking conservative pundits on a daily basis, but to just make stuff up to create additional divisiveness is pathetic and a gross abuse of the microphone that he has been given.

Maybe we can let Israel and Palestine settle this problem. We have enough Obama business of our own to settle.

We just lost one of the good guys. Conservative Robert Novak teamed with liberal Rowland Evans for one of the great political columns in this country’s history – “Inside Washington”. You always knew that if you turned to their column you had the straight inside scoop.
Strange in today’s political climate. One liberal & one conservative, business partners & best friends for decades. (One vacationed with the Kennedys.) Today it appears everyone has a need to feel contempt for someone who disagrees with their political opinion. One legacy of Evans & Novak is that it is not necessary. Aahhh, yes, being that I am a responsible homeowner, this opens me up to be gouged by government once a year with their beloved property tax, which is just another confiscation of hard earned capital so that the fat, unresponsive and idiotic bureaucracy can live on in infamy.
And guess what, remember all the noise for the last year about plummeting housing prices, how your home has lost value? Shouldn’t this mean that your taxes would go down?

What’s meant by in the middle?…I sense you are taking this out of context but I’d like to be clear. If he is referring to the palestinian desire to “wipe Israel off the map” and settle there then I agree. If he is talking 1967 borders I don’t agree.
Let us make no mistake about one thing. The issue of the palestinian sovereign state is an issue that is and has been completely in the hands of the palestinians. There are only three requirements, 1967 borders, renounce violence against Israel, and recognize Israel’s right to exist. That is all they have to do and they will be welcomed in to the world community with open arms and a buckets of money to get them on their feet. Stop the hate that’s all they have to do and they can have their own sovereign country. Hell they don’t even have to like Israel, just leave them alone. But their hate for Israel and Jews is so great that they will decimate their own populations to perpetuate it.
I gotta tell you, it makes it really hard to pity a people who bring so much misery upon themselves. Sure Israel has over stepped from time to time, but the majority of their issues are self created.

#1ninja: I don’t know. You and pat have a valid point — however, the Israeli’s were given the land after WWII, (given part of the land they now inhabit — after WWII). The UN or League Of Nations had asked the other countries if they could have it and at first they said yes. Then, after a few years they said no; and the land that is now in question is the land that israel won from the wars against Jordan and a few other countries. But I feel this strife between Isarel and the rest of the arab world is centuries old and no one besides Houdini could/will ever straighten it out

Do you have any evidence to back up your beliefs about the roots of Huckabee’s views on Israel?
My guess is that you are relying on your own stereotypes and have never read any data that supports your claim about Huckabee’s views on Israel.

Well, I see that mike is on here blasting people for not being tolerant while not being tolerant of them. So I reckon I’ll just get off of this blog and maybe go to Billy Bob’s for a PBR or two or five. It’s better than waiting around to get blasted by mike for not being tolerant.
