There comes a point in every baseball season when the pretenders get separated from the contenders. And it’s getting to that point in the 2009 season. Tonight, the first-place Phillies come into the Ted to take on the Braves, who have been showing signs of contending for a spot in post-season play. And out in Texas, my Boston Red Sox begin an important series with the Texas Rangers that could be critical in deciding the AL wild-card race.
So, to set the scene, tonight’s Travelin’ Music comes to us courtesy of John Fogarty. Check out John’s custom-made gee-tar. Not exactly a model designed by the late, great Les Paul, who was called to his reward by the Great Death Panel in the Sky this week.

Here’s to the hopes that PrezBO, his merry band of PrezBOts, and their disaster-in-the-making debacle, Health Care Deform continues their August slide just like your Red Sox! Freedom and opportunity would be all the stronger the less the thieves and collectivists are able to limit it.
For easy evidence, follow the inverse relationship between PrezBO’s polling numbers and the stock markets; the worse he fares, the better the markets do!

Pennant races are for skirt chasers. We need to eliminate spectator sports and put more effort (and money) into participation sports. The jocks are laughing all the way to the bank. This from someone who bet $100 on the Braves to win the 1991 pennant in Vegas. Haven’t been back since stopping by to pick up the winnings on the way home from my mother-in-laws’s funeral. I also sat out in the cold for 2 nights as the Yankees helped open the stadium that Ivan Allen built. I only lived a few miles from there at the time. I matured and the strike turned me off.

I saw Sir Paul when he played in Dallas. What a gentleman performer. Heck, at one point he sent his backup guys off and went solo for a while. Then did a number with the same guitar he used on Ed Sullivan. Stayed after about 30 minutes signing anything people handed him. A real class act.
Unlike the twits three rows up who just had to lean on each other and sway back and forth while everyone else was seated. Then they pulled out their lighters… I looked around for a spray can of something flammable…

My advise is to hold off buying your playoff tickets if you’re pulling for Atlanta. The Braves mostly look like Bobby Cox at the plate and when they run the bases. Heck, Bruce Benedict was a speed demon if you want to compare him and he’s the one the LA Dodgers coach said run like a expecting woman. I expect the Phillies to pull a sweep.

However, what infuriated me about the antiwar protests when Bush was in office is that the left’s level of rhetoric was not just different in degree from what one might commonly see at political rallies but was different in kind. To me, the left became completely unhinged. To regularly brand Bush as Hitler, to regularly refer to the Bush administration as a “regime,” to tolerate the not-uncommon calls for Bush’s death or assassination reflected a serious change in the nature of political debate in this country. That change was very much a valid news story. In many respects, that change superseded the significance of the war itself. Yet, the media totally and completely ignored and whitewashed the level of lunacy among the left.-BOWT, WSJ

“It’s like if they shut down half the concession stands at the baseball game,” said Scott Stern, CEO of the Lenders One mortgage bankers group in St. Louis. “It means the guy who’s last in line is going to have to wait a lot longer to get a hot dog, and in this market who knows what the price is going to be when he gets there?”

The browser you’re looking at on your screen is probably Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. Firefox is a different ‘browser’ – the vehicle that takes you around the Internet.
Go to the place up at the top of your screen where it says “http://blogs.ajc.com.etcetcetc”
Click once on that area and it’ll highlight. Then type firefox.com
When the new screen comes up doubleclick on the place that says ‘Download” and click on the prompts. Let it install. It’ll also import your old bookmarks if you want it to. You may not want to set it as your default browser until you decide if you like it or not. I find it operates much quicker. Seems to be more secure.

It’s intriguing that anyone is still hoping that Obama “continues his slide” as to health care reform because he done went belly up last week. All of you who are cheering for his defeat should be happy because he did a Kamikaze and a half already.. It is deader than Nixon. It ain’t gonna happen. Oh there will be a bill, a ton of cable airhead news, and a lot of newsprint but the bill that passes is going to be a joke and it’s not going to provide significant care to anyone. The better question is why Obama and Emanuel rolled over in order to call a hollow ghost of a gutted piece of junk “health care reform” when it’s going to be a health care joke that gores the people, and takes great care of big Insurance and big pharma. Some of you may be scrambling for health care if a big disaster hits, and I sure hope it doesn’t. I mean it’s really OVER. It just t to be disook me a while to realize it because the results are going disastrous for a lot of people–not just the uninsured, but those who have insurance.
All the hype about Obama’s Health Care reform is full of sound and fury signifying nothing. He has allowed the worthless scum Conrad and Grassley to dump every campaign promise he made.
Your insurance premiums will continue to rise whether you are an individual, or any size business and they will rise exponentially. They could be 20 grand a year very soon in Georgia. $21,280 in a few years and the number that lose insurance per day in Georgia will climb from the current 430 exponentially.
Health Care Coops, which seem to be the “secret” deal between Joe Biden and the hospital lobbyists if Emanuel gets the House bills to conform to the Senate Finance bill will have zero impact on the astronomical rise in your insurance rates and some of you will be going without medical care.
On July 8, Biden announced that there was a deal with the hospitals — just like the one with PhRMA — where they agreed to $155 billion in cost reductions over 10 years. According to the NYT:
“Several hospital lobbyists involved in the White House deals said it was understood as a condition of their support that the final legislation would not include a government-run health plan paying Medicare rates — generally 80 percent of private sector rates — or controlled by the secretary of health and human services.”
Because when you get those hospital bills for surgery and you can’t understand why a Tylenol costs $12 and a $3 guaze wrap costs $120 it’s because they want the money, and they intend to keep getting that money–and your insurance company is happy to pass that right onto you and costs will continue to soar thanks to that deal Biden made secretly and coops, and thanks to 6 Senators who represent 2.77% of the population. Coops are a joke and you will soon find out the joke is on you.

LOL–
It ought to have a 20 year sentencing guideline–listening to a free concert and ruining Paul McCartney’s life like that. Except that Paul was appreciative that we were there and said so. We ought to get the yellers from the town halls to bring their guns and shoot every one of the people who sit outside Piedmont to listen to the Beatle. And all of us should have been bombed who got treated to the freebie from Paul tonight up close and personal. How dare that we showed up to hear him rehearse, even though he told the cops to let everyone in. What’s this country coming to? What a collection of degenerates dressed like Yupsters–and they had dogs. We all know dogs should be shot from helecopters if we can’t get an Eagle quaterback to kill ‘em.
If only I could have married a bootyful mushbrained putz like Katy Abram–life would have been a dream.
She was ticked ’bout her taxes, but she doesn’t work, and therefore has no income. She wanted her Constitution back, but she has never read it, and wouldn’t know Article III from Wallmart and the Constition made sure Katy could not vote (founding fathers were very prescient when it came to Katy).
What’s going to happen to Katy is that she and her kid/kids will have no health care because if she ever gets an employer–doubtful if you listened to her tal–they will not be able to afford health care insurance, and Katy sure as hell won’t. So I suppose Katy and a lot rof you will get deep into Christian Science or dust off your boy scout First Aid merit badges, because Coops which are going to be the final bill out of Conference unless a miracle happens won’t impact insurance rates a scintilla.
The underinsured are going to be infinitely underinsured, and ironically with all the ficitional talk about Death Squads that Jay wrote a column on earlier, the real Death Squads are going to be that
1) People won’t be able to afford their medicine and it’s going to get worse. Big Pharma got a sweetheart deal, and they will continue jacking up the prices of meds–I’ve watched it go up about 4X what it should be per pill during my career above and beyond R&D costs. No one is reigning them in, and Rahm’s #3 gave Billy Tauzin a sweetheart deal. You’ll get your end when you pony up at your pharmacy and see the sticker shock.
2) Co-pays are going to increase dramatically.
3) Those meetings with hospital administrators in a sterile room telling you that your grandma or your parent has x more days in the unit and you have to pack them up are going to increase exponentially.
4) Your favotite memes that were a fraction of the heats lth care costs–undocumented immigrants won’t have changed at all. They are actually a avery small part of the total health care problem.
Whatever happens to illegal immigrants is not going to impact your costs as an employer or employee one iota. If you live in Georgia, 430 people are losing their insurance for a panoply of reasons and did every day this week. That number is going up. The average cost per family for insurance is going to double.
I know you’re ecstatic and you think this is great news. The #2 cause of bankruptcies in this country are health catastrophes, and now that figure has an excellent chance of going to #1.
So your dream and George Bush’s dream of tell’em just to book to the ER for whatever is going to come true, and if you believe the ER is the place to treat everything, good luck because it never has been and never will be.
Coops will be the new death squads, and they will be very effective at killing. It’s coming to someplace near you very soon. Watch the Finance Committee bill be adopted and then watch the death.
And Obama’s plan to improve the economy with health reform? That got killed with Biden’s agreement with the hospital lobbyists last week.
All of you who wanted to yell obscenities at the town hall will get to watch your dream unfold. The Katy Abrams’ will be uncovered, and without care but shei’ll have to learn that the old fashioned way and when she does, she won’t recognize “her country.”

LOL –
Why are all these professed heteros obsessed with their latent homosexuality–gotta use the hummer for what you should have anatomically that doesn’t work?
I have no idea what Men At Work’s sexual preference is, and why would it matter if you liked the song. And calling someone gay you don’t know as an insult puts you right in the Katy Abrams niche Bruno. It’s hard to me to phanthom you got through Gross Anatomy or Biochem as irrelevant as they are to clinical medicine.

So a manly man has never listened to a gay artist, or watched a TV show or movie by someone gay whether they had any idea or not of their sexual preferance, and that makes you a hit with the babes when you let ‘em know Bruno? :>) or as these real geeks do it

iObamacare ain’t passin’. Insurance companies, $5-6 pills and capsules, IV antibiotics billed at hundreds of bucks for inpatients, no co.mpetitive bidding for Medicaire, Big Pharma, and hospitals won hugely. Obama rolled over like a huge wussie. Obama is morphing into Bush. He’s signing executive orders like it’s goin’ outta style, He has filed for state secrets, wiretapping, and indefinite detention without proving any charges or chargin in every appellate casge.
I don’t know where you’ve been the last 2 days but basically barring a miracle Obamacare = not doing a damn thing and letting the six senators on Senate Finance who represent 2.77% of people.
I can see where you’ll have a huge letdown because whate you were anxious about got handed to you by a pansy Obama and a pansy Emanuel. Who knew that the tough guy whose every other word is the F word could be such a pansie?
The screamers at the Town Halls got their way although they don’t have a clue what they want.
Doctors got crushed if I can borrow that word, and patients—if you think increased death is a great outcome, you’ll love what gets passed.
Because word on the street is Obama has rolled over for Senate Finance –you know Grassley–the 76 year old genius that preached death squads? He’s getting his way. I wasn’t kidding when I said Emanuel and Obama sold out to the conservatives and Blue Dogs on Senate Finance.
So if you believe in medicine, it’s fairly scewed.
The only thing that’s interesting if you like spectator politics is how the Progressive Caucus in the House–Asians, African American Caucus, Hispanic caucus is going to swallow the fact that NOTHING in the House Bill is going to pass. Essentially Obama and Emanuel let the house jerk itself around while they caved to Insurancey, Big Pharma and the Hospital for higher bills lobby.
The House will be pissed. The progressives or what you call liberals will be outta their minds pissed, but Obama and Rahm have basically said screw ‘em.
They’ll never vote for any of the jokers you all put up–not in a billion years, but they won’t be enthusiastically giving money and knocking on doors on cold October days after Obama’s civil rights stance and the way he caved on health care.
By any chance Bruno, did you catch the scene in California where 1500 a day crowded into the LA Forum to see hundreds of doctors, dentists, and optometrists for free? They normally go to 3rd world countries, and there third world country stop for this week was Los Angeles, California.
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/08/13/eveningnews/main5240824.shtml
Kenya Smith needs a checkup for two-week-old Zoe. Her insurance doesn’t cover it.
“They wanted $1,500 for just to be seen by the doctor plus co-payments. That was a lot of money I thought,” she said.
Anna Garcia got in line Tuesday for dental work. She works for Orange County, has five children, and her husband is out of work. The co-pay for three year old Aizza’s root canal: $1,000.
“I couldn’t afford it and I didn’t want her to lose her teeth. So I once read about this program, and I had to take advantage of it, even if it meant missing a couple of days of work,” she said.
But the good news is you won. Obama care fell on its face because Obama had no backbone and caved.
So these people who need dental work whose teeth are throbbing out of their head? Tough.
The checkup for the 2 week old? Who needs perinatal care right. What kind of wussies are these people thinking they need medical care.
Hitler was a comin’ but you beat him back. Katie Abram was losing her country, althoug she could start by acquiring the vocabulary of her 3 year old.
So life’s good Bruno. You wanted all these uninsured and underinsured people screwed and you got ‘em screwed. Great job. Obama caved for you.
Wonder what the House is going to say when they find out that mostly old white men who are liars who represent 2.77% of the ‘country say they don’t matter.
And Woodstock had a great outcome–most of the stars choked on their own vomit or died of heroine overdose. Let’s hear it for opiate respiratory depression. Life’s good Bruno.
