A tribute to hot August playoff races, and some Travelin’ Music

There comes a point in every baseball season when the pretenders get separated from the contenders. And it’s getting to that point in the 2009 season. Tonight, the first-place Phillies come into the Ted to take on the Braves, who have been showing signs of contending for a spot in post-season play. And out in Texas, my Boston Red Sox begin an important series with the Texas Rangers that could be critical in deciding the AL wild-card race.

So, to set the scene, tonight’s Travelin’ Music comes to us courtesy of John Fogarty. Check out John’s custom-made gee-tar. Not exactly a model designed by the late, great Les Paul, who was called to his reward by the Great Death Panel in the Sky this week.

Jay:

Here’s to the hopes that PrezBO, his merry band of PrezBOts, and their disaster-in-the-making debacle, Health Care Deform continues their August slide just like your Red Sox! Freedom and opportunity would be all the stronger the less the thieves and collectivists are able to limit it.

For easy evidence, follow the inverse relationship between PrezBO’s polling numbers and the stock markets; the worse he fares, the better the markets do!

There won’t be a slide in the Health Care debate for O’Bama. The Terry Shiavo fanatics will continue to lok foolish and will eventually lose out again.

Pennant races are for skirt chasers. We need to eliminate spectator sports and put more effort (and money) into participation sports. The jocks are laughing all the way to the bank. This from someone who bet $100 on the Braves to win the 1991 pennant in Vegas. Haven’t been back since stopping by to pick up the winnings on the way home from my mother-in-laws’s funeral. I also sat out in the cold for 2 nights as the Yankees helped open the stadium that Ivan Allen built. I only lived a few miles from there at the time. I matured and the strike turned me off.

WOW!! What a few days coming up for music fans in Atlanta!

Tonight the Temptations are at Chastain Park. Tomorrow night what a trifecta! Sir Paul at Piedmont Park, Steely Dan at Chastain and Def Leppard & Cheap Trick at Lakewood!

Then…CSN on Monday, Bonnie Raitt & Taj Mahal on Tuesday and America & Christopher Cross on Wednesday! All at Chastain.

I’m VERY stoked about seeing a Beatle tomorrow night…

I saw Sir Paul when he played in Dallas. What a gentleman performer. Heck, at one point he sent his backup guys off and went solo for a while. Then did a number with the same guitar he used on Ed Sullivan. Stayed after about 30 minutes signing anything people handed him. A real class act.

Unlike the twits three rows up who just had to lean on each other and sway back and forth while everyone else was seated. Then they pulled out their lighters… I looked around for a spray can of something flammable…

Well, I’m with Swampy Dave and @@. If a Conservative is in the White House, I’m pulling for the country to start making all kind of money again. But if a librul Democrat is in the White House, I say screw the country. That’s how Patriotism is suppose to work.

My advise is to hold off buying your playoff tickets if you’re pulling for Atlanta. The Braves mostly look like Bobby Cox at the plate and when they run the bases. Heck, Bruce Benedict was a speed demon if you want to compare him and he’s the one the LA Dodgers coach said run like a expecting woman. I expect the Phillies to pull a sweep.

Have a good night everybody.

However, what infuriated me about the antiwar protests when Bush was in office is that the left’s level of rhetoric was not just different in degree from what one might commonly see at political rallies but was different in kind. To me, the left became completely unhinged. To regularly brand Bush as Hitler, to regularly refer to the Bush administration as a “regime,” to tolerate the not-uncommon calls for Bush’s death or assassination reflected a serious change in the nature of political debate in this country. That change was very much a valid news story. In many respects, that change superseded the significance of the war itself. Yet, the media totally and completely ignored and whitewashed the level of lunacy among the left.-BOWT, WSJ

If Colonial fails, mortgages get more scarce

“It’s like if they shut down half the concession stands at the baseball game,” said Scott Stern, CEO of the Lenders One mortgage bankers group in St. Louis. “It means the guy who’s last in line is going to have to wait a lot longer to get a hot dog, and in this market who knows what the price is going to be when he gets there?”

I don’t think we’ve seen the worst of this economy.

The browser you’re looking at on your screen is probably Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. Firefox is a different ‘browser’ – the vehicle that takes you around the Internet.

Go to the place up at the top of your screen where it says “http://blogs.ajc.com.etcetcetc”

Click once on that area and it’ll highlight. Then type firefox.com

When the new screen comes up doubleclick on the place that says ‘Download” and click on the prompts. Let it install. It’ll also import your old bookmarks if you want it to. You may not want to set it as your default browser until you decide if you like it or not. I find it operates much quicker. Seems to be more secure.

just saw this little clip of Spkr Pelosi saying she’s a fan of ‘disruptors.’ Even had good words to say when she was shouted down.

I’m just so happy to see she’s consistent with her principles, regardless of changing situations!

LOL so funny Scooter!!! Yeah we’re all alone — maybe since Jay left we can talk dirty to each other and pass some time on a Friday night! Whaddya say?! Oh well, Jay’d just ban us anyway!! Why aren’t you out having fun on a Friday night? I’m a deployment widow so I’m in mourning for at least 2 weeks after Dudley leaves, then the “edge” wears off and i get back to my real life; but that’s no excuse for you! You should be out, having fun, kissing some ugly girl after having too many Jack’s straight up!! Whattsamattawithu? :)
