OK, this time Hugo Chavez has gone too far

I guess this means I have to tear down the Hugo Chavez poster from my office wall.

I mean, really!

CARACAS, Venezuela — President Hugo Chávez’s political movement has found a new target: golf.

After a brief tirade against the sport by the president on national television last month, pro-Chávez officials have moved in recent weeks to shut down two of the country’s best-known golf courses, in Maracay, a city of military garrisons near here, and in the coastal city of Caraballeda.

“Let’s leave this clear,” Mr. Chávez said during a live broadcast of his Sunday television program. “Golf is a bourgeois sport,” he said, repeating the word “bourgeois” as if he were swallowing castor oil. Then he went on, mocking the use of golf carts as a practice illustrating the sport’s laziness.

I support the right of free peoples to engage in this utterly boring, lazy, bourgeois, land-grabbing, over-hyped sport. Send Pat Robertson down there ASAP!

I don’t know about “bourgeois” but I do know chasing a little ball around the countryside is a rather silly pursuit.

Throw away the clubs and use a Ruger Super Redhawk .44 Magnum, then you would have me interested.

I was going to scroll past this silly-season blog post, but being a bit of a golfer myself I had a peek at the NYTimes piece whence it came, and stumbled upon this tidbit, emphasis mine:

“Mario Silva, a Bill O’Reilly-esque host of an acidic commentary program called ‘The Razor Blade’ on state television (imagine Mr. O’Reilly speaking against a background of portraits of Jesus, Mr. Chávez and Fidel Castro), told viewers that golf was simply a sport of the elite.

Ok, imagine no more…

geez, whiner, you really do need to deman a refund from RIF – your reading comprehension skills are for crap … to wit:

“Say, didn’t you just tell us the Paglia is not a democrat even though she voted democrat and now you are telling us Parker is a Republican even though she voted democrat?”

no, I didn’t say that Paglia isn’t a democrat. I said that no Dem that I read likes her or respects her opinion. just because she votes for a Dem doesn’t mean we all approve of her.

as for Jay’s quote, the original quote wasn’t Kathleen Parker, it was Voinovich who is an elected Republican.

I play golf. It is a good time. But I do have to admit I hate golf culture. The snobby club houses and the silly dress codes and such.

I prefer to play at a certain public course around atlanta that allows me to bring my own beer, race the golf carts, shoot whiskey after each hole, and wear whatever I want.

And all for $13. ( I know the guy)

Well, long as he keeps all the golfers down there he can close the courses if he wants to. I just don’t want them clogging up all the tee times at Countryland Golf Club up above Cumming. It’s got awful crowded lately. I even met a couple golfers from Atlanta there. Atlanta golfers like to play there on account of it’s real cheap, but they usually don’t come back after they see it. I reckon they feel out of place when they dress in their fancy pants and shirts and then see the rest of us in jeans and t-shirts.

Just wait till this Obama stays in office for awhile. He’s as much a Socialist as this Chavez and will close all the courses in this country. He pretends to like to play the game, but I seen his swing and he might as well be chopping down corn stalks. No wonder, he even throws a baseball like a girl.

Have a good night everybody.

I used to travel to Venezuala in my work. I was a very nice place. It had a high standard of living, and great food. etc. It’s amazing how quickly things can change. Chavez basically took over power by promising to redistribute wealth and demonizing those who had wealth. After he came into power he began to slowly nationalize companies, then entire industries. As time goes by he gets bolder and bolder in his Marxist quest.

Good thing nothing like that could ever happen here.

They can’t even figure out what the “sport” is, it has a pitch and isn’t baseball, you dribble but it isn’t basketball, the fans throw bags of urine at each other but it isn’t a watersport, and some places have the nerve to call it football.
