Under the circumstances, I think it’s doing a good job. But what they do is too complicated for me to really understand. I guess it would depend on how bad you think the economic crisis of 2007-2009 really is/was.
The Federal Open Markets Committee (FOMC) or Fed is supposed to oversee all markets: equities, bonds, commodities, currencies etc. After the bubble burst on internet stocks, a lot of cash was out there waiting to be plucked like low hanging fruit. An argument could be made that Greenspan saw the possibility of another bubble and directed it towards real estate, hoping that this bubble would retain more of it’s value—unlike stocks or tulip bulbs.
Kayaker, you are the one who hasn’t read Section 1233. It’s a c-o-n-s-u-l-t-a-t-i-o-n.
Do you know what a consultation is???? Can you use dictionary.com?
The Section wants to allow seniors to meet with a DR every 5 years to see if there is any end-of-life questions they may have. We all die, this is a way for people to get to ask questions — without having to pay for it.
That is what the Section is about —- it’s purpose is to set this up so that the government pays for it!
You are part of the problem, you are pushing talking points meant to put fear in the population – not help others understand what is being planned for health care.
Thanks for all you do for your fellow Americans, Kayaker!
Best to get worked up now. By the time it is ready for signing, it is too late. There are too many provisions in this thing that penalize those of us who already have a good health care plan. I am concerned about the American citizens who do not have health care but not about the estimated 20M illegals who will fall into coverage, paid for with your tax dollars. Too big a voting bloc to ignore.
Kayaker, Discussions between sick or elderly people and their doctors about end-of-life treatment have long been an accepted part of modern patient care. In 2003, a Bush administration agency issued a 20-page report outlining a five-part process for physicians to discuss end-of-life care with their patients and since 1990, Congress has required health-care agencies to inform patients about state laws regarding advance directives such as a living will.
Yeah, that statement did include the name George W. Bush.
Yes, after practicing medicine for over 45 yrs, I am very familiar with the word consultation. I can certainly use dictionary. com. I do not elect to go to a physician every five years for a “consultation” on dying. I am a social security recipient and if I continue to receive SS benefits, I must present myself for this session on how to end my life. I have planned very well for my demise. I do not need the government to lead me around by the nose and do my planning for me. Government does not belong in this phase of my life or any other phase, for that matter. All of this “c.o.n.s.u.l.t.a.t.i.o.n offends me and it should offend you, if you have half a brain. I do not push talking points just to hear myself talk.
Oh, one other thing. 35 years on active duty with the US Army has certainly put me in a category of Americans who have done something for their country. What have you contributed, McCool?
Please select the scenery that you would like to view. Then, lie back and when you are ready, just press the button. Rest assured that you will provide nourishment to many needy people in the afterlife.
The controversy stems from a single proposal in one of the House bills (there are three drafts) to pay physicians who counsel elderly or terminally ill patients about what medical interventions they would prefer near the end of life and how to prepare instructions such as living wills. Under the plan, Medicare would reimburse doctors for one session every five years to confer with a patient about his or her wishes and how to ensure those preferences are followed. The counseling sessions would be voluntary.
Kayaker wrote: I do not need the government to lead me around by the nose and do my planning for me.
So everyone else in our society is in your shoes, Kayaker? Everyone understands all the end of life issues? Other people don’t have questions? Other people wouldn’t have something to gain from a little consultation with an expert?
Perhaps it’s not the government that is wanting to lead people around by their noses…looks to me like you are the one who wants to determine what is and isn’t available to the rest of us.
There are some smart minds working on this bill but, because you served in some medical capacity and served your country, you know better than everyone of those people.
Kayaker wrote: if I continue to receive SS benefits, I must present myself for this session on how to end my life.
I seriously doubt you were ever a doctor. You demonstrate no compassion for other people. If you were a DR then this is a perfect example of why the AMA pisses me off: we have a right to know where a doctor graduated in their class. I want to know if I’m being attended to by the guy/gal who graduated last in their class.
Have you ever administered an experimental drug to a soldier without his/her knowledge? What are the effects, on homo sapiens, of exposure to Agent Orange?
I’ve gotten asked about “end of life” issues every time I’ve had to be admitted to a hospital. Invariably, the admitting clerk asks if I have a living will, and if I don’t have one, I have to initial a form indicating that I am waiving the opportunity. On the other hand, no one in a Social Security office has ever said anything to me about a consultation.
I’m calling bullcrap on this false assertion. I suppose that some people are so desperate to oppose extending health insurance to those not currently insured that they will invent any wild supposition to support their assertions.
The only real issue that the conservatives have with this consultation is its name. They want it to be referred to as the “afterlife” consultation. Also, they believe that it should be paid for by the consumer via a tithe. It’s the charitable thing to do.

And no, I have not administered any experimental drugs to soldiers. The decision to use Agent Orange was made by non-medical people…. we were just left with the aftermath.

I was just curious to hear a doctor’s side of the story without all the government cover up, you know. I’ll bet you know since you probably had to treat lots of people and saw first hand what some of these chemicals do to people. By the way, how about DDT. What does it do to people. Borg’s prescription for growth is simple: cut taxes. His government has slashed the tax rate on low incomes from 30.7% to 17.1%. The combined tax take (national and local; income and other) has fallen by 2.5 percentage points in three years to 46.6% of gross domestic product.
Kayaker wrote: I have no interest in deciding what kind of health care you get. It’s none of my business. It is also none of the government’s.
Kayaker, any idea who licenses doctors? They are state (read government) administered. You want to go to doctors who aren’t licensed? I am glad the government plays a role in determining who qualifies to act as a medical professional. I wouldn’t want it any other way.
My point is this: It IS the government’s business. It is in our country’s (the government, society, the whole shebang) best interest to keep the population healthy.
Yes, I have issues. I have issues with your type: Those who are part of the problem.
Looky at the IR/YW. He gets all upset and starts on another of his name-calling rants when ever anyone challenges his lies. Like I said, IR/YW go bathe in your DDT. Then, rinse off in Agent Orange if you want. I don’t care and clearly, you do not either. Right. By the way, Agent Orange was produced by DOW and Monsanto and they are not the government even though they own a sizable number of folks in the government — like most big businesses.

That is funny but true. I also remember, as a kid, my fascination with mercury. I would break thermometers to get it. I had a huge glob at one time. I guess I’m a gonner.
Seriously, we people on the right are always accused of “scare tactics”.
But can someone explain to me why (or if) it cost SOOO much more money to go to the emergency room instead of a clinic.??
Hey, what happened to Kayaker 71. I was so looking forward to reading what a medical doctor had to say about his first-hand experiences with Agent Orange and its impact on humans and about his knowledge of the impact of DDT on humans. Any issues with birth defects or cancers with either of these products. What about a common contaminant in Agent Orange — dioxin. Does that cause any problems with humans.
Here is another good one from our Australian friends down under. Politicians running healthcare. Gotta love it.
The commission’s final report cites figures indicating Australians are forgoing two years of life because of waste and duplication in the health system. Errors are also taking a human toll. “The number of adverse events each year (is) equivalent to 13 jumbo jets crashing and killing all 350 passengers on board,” it says.
And, PCBs are safe too, jt. Why don’t you drive on over to Anniston, Alabama and just ask around. Check it out, dude. If you really want to get some attention, just tell the folks there that you work for GE or Monsanto or that Monsanto spinoff, if they’re still around.

The U.S. economy is beginning to improve, but the growing federal budget deficit means that Americans will have to make “tough choices” in the future, U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said Aug. 2. Geithner said in an interview that he expects the U.S. economy to improve through the rest of the year, though unemployment, while slowing, is expected to continue rising, with job creation possible in 2010. Geithner said emergency economic measures including the bailout program and stimulus spending are expanding the budget deficit to unsustainable levels.
If Kayaker has left, that is no surprise. The ignorance displayed here about medical procedures and medical practice is depressing, to say the least. With the best health care in the world. some of you sit here posting like you are a bunch of helpless babies needing directions. …
The Constitution of the USA is not a long document. It covers the specifics. It does not say that the government should provide or decide on health care for citizens. Such decisions are left to the the citizens which is one thing Kayaker is saying. He wants to decide on his own medical care. That is his freedom. He also wants you to make your own decisions. This bill is a directive, not an option.
Yesterday, Doggone said that doctors should have no influence in the new Healthcare Bill being set up .That is, the main caregivers should have no say in the care. Medical care without the doctor’s input. I’ll bet Doggone expects a doctor when he gets medical care. But… with healthcare plans? Nawww
Another poster here said that ALL doctors were for this Healthcare Bill. Wrong. Dr. Williamson, president of the Medical Association of Georgia, representing forty thousand doctors, spoke against this bill. It is a socialistic, expensive, problem-laden plan hastily organized mostly by non-medical people. All of you should be concerned about this mammoth concoction which will place you within the dangerous limits of poor medicine.
Agent Orange! That was spread by the choice of military officials, not doctors. Doctors treat the effects of Agent Orange. They had nothing to do with dispensing Agent Orange.
Your info is so lacking. DDT had proven detrimental to the environment so it was stopped in Africa. Malaria deaths arose immediately.as IRYW posted because the mosquito population, carriers of malaria, greatly increased. That has been written up many times.
As to the syphilis study, doctors did not give syphilis to patients. They ran a study where some patients who ALREADY had syphilis were given a new “cure” while some received a placebo. Drug studies on new medicines are run today somewhat in this same manner to test their effectiveness.
Another blogger said he had to sign a “living will” at the hospital. That is because doctors and hospitals will be sued for “killing” someone when life giving machines are removed when the patient is obviously without a chance of recovery. The only legal protection is to have a patient say it is OK to end life when it is really over. Medical insurance rates for doctors are sky high because patients’ families will sue over anything they can question.
So, sleep tight now. The government will soon be here to tuck you in your bed. You should not have to do it yourself. As Yogi Bara said,”When you come to the fork in the road, take it.”
Let me correct some information about the Tuskegee syphilis experiment. The study began in the early 1930s when medicines for syphilis were very toxic. Public Health Service (government) was making a study to find better ways of treating patients with syphilis. In the 1940s, penicillin was found to be an effective cure. But the experiment continued and those patients in the study were not given penicillin. That scientific study should have concluded with treatment but it did not. When the experiemtal program was stopped, new ethical standards were set for research. The drug studies today follow ethical procedures.

I said no such thing. Don’t put out a false, lying quote attributed to me and then expect me to defend the lie. Defend your own lies and quit blaming them on someone else. Ever heard of being responsible for your own lies? You said it, you own it.
I Report writes: New GI Bill tops Obama’s agenda….What’s another 78 billion to our children?
It’s ok when our troops are doing the fighting: They are the best in any land. But offer them an education and the best benefits money can buy? Guess not.
It’s an investment in our children and grandchildren that have served their country that will repay itself many times over their lifetimes in higher government revenue. Not to mention a more happy, stable, competitive and productive society.
“Veterans Will See Big Benefits Increase In Just-Passed GI Bill”
“With the stroke of his pen on Monday, President George W. Bush helped usher into law the most sweeping change in the GI Bill since the veterans-education plan’s inception after World War II. Under a new $63 billion provision, veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts will be eligible for nearly twice as much tuition and housing funds as they were previously.”

Not so with our medical field.
I believe the Australian program has been working since the seventies. As for those nasty slush funds, that’s a US thing. You big business buys whatever they want from government, then they kill and pollute and finally the government collects taxes from the citizens to clean up the messes left by big business.

You do so love to call conservatives “liars”. Doesn’t matter much but……
Aug. 1 @ 10:10 you wrote about Dr. Williamson, President of the Georgia Medical Association, “He is commenting on a bill before Congress which has nothing to do with his profession.” I believe that means YOU do not think doctors should have a voice on the healthcare bill. I disagree with you..
You also said something about lawyers being repsonsibllle for this bill. I guess you did not say that either.
Your connotations speak louder than your accusations, Doggone. You need to cheer up a bit. Trying to condemn conservatives every word is hardly a happy pursuit. So much twisting and turning. Try something else.

The U.S. economy is beginning to improve, but the growing federal budget deficit means that Americans will have to make “tough choices” in the future, U.S.
