I was reading, or trying to without bursting out in laughter, Kyle Wingnut’s opinion this morning concerning the trials and tribulations of the small business man in America. I was certainly moved in strange ways as I tried to ‘feel’ for this so-called business man that moans over the prospect of no longer getting high quality slave labor. But, what struck me the most was the new-found knowledge, thanks Kyle for that much, that this chain of Subway franchises has employees with not so much as bare-bones basic rudimentary health care and they handle FOOD that is served up to the public. Oh, I feel so much better knowing that they slip on a pair of plastic gloves, achooo!, sorry ’bout that, each and every time they are under the watchful eye of the consumer. Well, at least we have health inspectors here in Georgia to keep us safe and that’s worth at least a bag of peanuts to each and every one of us. The swine.

Hey, Y’all…as much fun as it has been being a fly on the wall these past days, and in some cases laughing so hard I’ve had to change my “depends”, it’s time to consider more important things…Tomorrow is Friday! So, who’s going to make the “Traveling Music” Choice? Since USinUK usually checks out early to us, I vote for her and I vote we start it early. TnG –

“which probably explains the difference in unwanted pregnancies.”

the pregnancy rate in the UK is the highest in Europe (42/1000) – primarily because there isn’t really a concerted effort to educate kids and talk to them about consequences. they’re not teaching abstinence, but they’re not really just plain talking to them, either, about their lives and how a pregnancy could limit their future.

According to the CDC, 1/3 of American teens will get pregnant before they’re 20. and the teen pregnancy rate rose following the push for abstinence-only education – and this is after decades of a steady decline …

Well, it’s always good to see GA up at #1. This time it’s in bank failures, but leastwise it’s in something. You can’t give a bunch of good old boys a pile of money and expect anything good to happen. Just like it’s kind of risky to leave your farm animals with one when you have to go away. CA and IL tied for 2nd.

I’m all for USinUK choosing the music for Friday, long as it’s country music. My vote’s for Big N Rich or maybe George Strait or the Kentucky Headhunters.

I reckon by this time Bookman’s caught something. Maybe VD. Leastwise we proved we don’t need him to keep right on blogging. Heck, we could be up to 2000 posts before he gets back. Have a good day everybody.

So, the GOP has gone and offered up their own health care plan. Tom Price, another Georgia wingnut, was apparently the one that drew the short straw (or maybe the long straw given their known perversions including bowing to the likes of Rush Limbaugh) and was called upon to present this fine piece of craftymanship. Let’s see, it only has a price tag of 700 billion, to cover the cost of all the tax cuts and incentives to big business (what the hell’s a few more trillion to borrow from China to pay for that one), it does nothing to insure that any of the uninsured will be covered, it does not require the insurance companies to cover folks with pre-existing conditions, it does nothing to curb the ever-increasing costs for consumers, etc. Well, if any of you folks out there happen to go to this physician, Tom Price, for medical care, perhaps you can ask him if he’ll take that tax cut as payment rendered for his servicing you.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Remember all the ‘outrage’ over Bush Administration political appointees overriding career attorneys at Justice, particularly those in the Civil Rights Division?

It seems that’s just what happened in the voter intimidation case.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/jul/30/no-3-at-justice-okd-panther-reversal/?feat=home_cube_position1&

I really liked the explanation by the Justice Department spokeswoman: “She said that after a “thorough review of the complaint, top career attorneys in the Civil Rights Division determined the “facts and the law did not support pursuing the claims against three of the defendants.”

The career lawyers, those on the front line preparing cases, wanted to pursue action. It was the political appointee lawyers, those appointed by the Obama Administration, who overruled them! LOL!

So in addition to rendition, indefinite detention, spying, war expansion, secret meetings, lobbyist influence, we also have more examples of refusing to answer questions by Congress, stonewalling the media, political appointees overriding career lawyers and preventing bureaucrats from meeting with members of Congress.

Just one more thing to add to the q&a about “How is the Obama Administration the same as the Bush Administration?”

Scooter @ 10.04, you can just copy the url of the Youtube video as a separate line in your message text.

Like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRbuhlTu0Lk

If you’re wondering where the actual URL (i.e., webpage address) is to be found, the most reliable method is to click in the “URL” field you’ll see top-right on the YouTube page.

Nothin’ fancy–the hyperlink will work perfectly well that way. Of course if you want to anchor the link to some text that requires a little bit of html coding; click this link to see a page that might be of some help if you want to play around a bit.

Hope this helps.

Hmmm

Do you people do anything besides sit around looking up figures to prove that the USA is sorry and Georgia is the worst state in the Union? If it isn’t that, then it is “doctors are sorry” and “accountants just want to make a profit” and other complaints. Of course, blaming Bush is still current.

I don’t mind some discussion for BOTH sides of an argument but “blind blame” is all we get here.

The USA makes no one stay here unless they have commited a crime. Feel free to go.

You do NOT have to reside in Georgia. The state lines are open.

No one is forced to go to doctors. Stay home and die happily by your self.

Nobody runs a business to go “broke”. Profit is not evil. Accountants actually account for the money part of business. They are not an evil bunch from a Dicken’s novel. And anybody running something bigger than the front desk is going to make more money as they move up. That is the way things go in this world..unless you are a communist.. and even their leaders…..oh well…

But one request. Please don’t start the so called music early. Symphony Hall wasn’t built for nothing. Kapeche?

Then hit and hold ctrl on your keyboard and hit c. let ‘em both go. now it should be saved, so go back to the comments box and when you are ready to submit it push and hold ctrl and hit v. No one is forced to go to doctors?

San Dimas, CA (May 25, 2009) – The image of an American child being strapped down and forced to take harsh cancer therapy against the will of his parents or even his own will is not a welcome thought.

Ironically, the Hauser case comes just when radiation oncologists are questioning reports on the effectiveness of radiation treatment for Hodgkin’s lymphoma. A review of 61 trial reports that were published between 1998 and 2007, published in the February 1, 2009 issue of the Journal of Radiation Oncology Biology Physics, the official journal of the American Society for Radiation Oncology, shows major deficiencies in reports which substantiate this type of treatment. The question is, can cancer doctors assure with certainty that the treatment is science-based, something the new administration in Washington DC is pushing.

Dear USinUK @10:31

As you sit in the UK giving us advice, we certainly appreciate your viewpoint although it is usually a negative one about the USA. It smacks of the many diehard liberals here.

If you have heard anything good about the USA lately, you don’t mention it. Sure, the first step in solving problems is to find them. When you seek only problems, it is called either prejudice or depression.

If patriotism disturbs you, I am sorry. I realize it is no longer politically correct. But I think it is quite accurate to say that the USA is NO 1 WOOWOO and not the “pits of the world” with your ever seeking promotion of finding OUR problems to correct.

I am quite honest. That seems to bother you since it does not agree with your liberal findings. But I have no problem being a conservative Republican in the USA. We uphold the principles.

You’re not supposed to be so blind with patriotism that you can’t face reality. Wrong is wrong, no matter who says it. Malcolm X

The difference between patriotism and nationalism is that the patriot is proud of his country for what it does, and the nationalist is proud of his country no matter what it does; the first attitude creates a feeling of responsibility, but the second a feeling of blind arrogance that leads to war. Our country is not the only thing to which we owe our allegiance. It is also owed to justice and to humanity. Patriotism consists not in waving the flag, but in striving that our country shall be righteous as well as strong. James Bryce

This is one page of 437 pages of the Federal Regulations dealing with sweet potato crop insurance.

1. Definitions

Abandon. Failure to continue to care for the crop, providing care so
insignificant as to provide no benefit to the crop, or failure to
harvest in a timely manner, unless an insured cause of loss prevents you
from properly caring for or harvesting the crop or causes damage to it
to the extent that most producers of the crop on acreage with similar
characteristics in the area would not normally further care for or
harvest it.
Acreage report. A report required by section 6 of these Basic
Provisions that contains, in addition to other required information,
your report of your share of all acreage of an insured crop in the
county, whether insurable or not insurable.
Acreage reporting date. The date contained in the Special Provisions
or as provided in section 6 by which you are required to submit your
acreage report.

appraised production) by planted acres.
Actuarial documents. The material for the crop year which is
available for public inspection in your agent’s office and published on
RMA’s Web site at http://www.rma.usda.gov/ or a successor Web site, and

Due to an unexpected decline in the “migratory” workforce in the USofA, sweet potato plants were all but non-existent in much of the country for most of the year. You see, sweet potato plants are an extremely labor intensive product and the markup on the product, much like Subway sandwiches purchased at their franchises, is very small. Hence, any effort to profit from the marketing and distribution of said product, without government subsidies, is next to impossible for the small business man. Obviously, these business men need to grow up.

Have you forgotten 09/11? Yeah, he kept us safe alright.

Bush left the greatest national debt ever experienced. Obama has continued the upward spiral.

If he’s following Bush’s policies, then why aren’t you supporting him? I certainly hope it is only temporary, but it’s a wise person that can change their opinion as conditions change.

Bush was not perfect either. He just kept us safe and sound which was his job.

Uhhh. The towers came tumbling down on his watch so it is more of a “Remember the Alamo” moment, at best. And, I’m being kind. Likely, too kind.

Scooter,

If you want to make it even easier, after you click the left mouse button to highlight the link/url click the right mouse button without moving the mouse. Select copy from the menu that pops up. Then bring your cursor to the comment box and click the right mouse button again, but this time select paste from the menu.

actually I think all the kewl kidz say “w00t!”

“If patriotism disturbs you, I am sorry. I realize it is no longer politically correct”

patriotism doesn’t disturb me. BLIND patriotism, however, disturbs me VERY much – that smacks of an unwillingness to face the realities that your country and your country’s leaders are humans and make mistakes. BLIND patriotism leads us to the lovely land we found ourselves in when we had the Ari Fleischer saying that “all Americans need to watch what they say” and that anyone who dared question the president or speak out against the war was aiding the enemy.

“I am quite honest. That seems to bother you since it does not agree with your liberal findings”

my “liberal findings”?? good gawd, Dusty, you can’t even have a conversation without slinging “librul” into the mix. darlin’, it’s not a “liberal finding” to observe your comments on this board. you don’t like anyone to say, “now, hangonaminnit …” and raise evidence that the US isn’t perfect in every way and, in fact, has some very serious steps it needs to take to address its problems.

“If you have heard anything good about the USA lately, you don’t mention it.”

well, given the discussion we’ve had over the course of the week has made some egregiously inaccurate statements about socialized medicine (such as how the UK system just wants to kill off the aged), then, yeah, I’m going to weigh in with my experience and the data that supports my points. you want to read it as “not having anything good to say”, then so be it. I see it as presenting the facts.

as far as access to birth control, I agree with you that the US and European communities are similar as far as access … however, where education and attitudes about premarital sex are concerned, they are WORLDS apart.

Obviously not since our teens are getting pregnant more often without fear of being stigmatized.

Supposedly, in the northeastern states, sex education is comprehensive.

Among 15 to 19 year olds — B/R=birthrates A/R=abortion rates

Delaware B/R 93 Abortions 31

District of Columbia B/R 128 A/R 55

Illinois B/R 87 A/R 27

Maryland B/R 91 A/R 38

New Jersey B/R 90 A/R 47

New York B/R 91 A/R 46

Multiple abortions create risk in subsequent pregnancies.

Interestingly enough where abstinence only is promoted:

Idaho B/R 62 A/R 10

Iowa B/R 55 A/R 12

Nebraska B/R 59 A/R 12

North Dakota B/R 42 A/R 8

South Dakota B/R 54 A/R 7

Utah B/R 53 A/R 6

Wisconsin B/R 55 A/R 12

Now granted, in the southern states where AO (abstinence only) is promoted, the birthrates are higher but the abortion rates are lower.

Infant mortality rates can be tied to an increase in abortions. In Europe they’re lower. Could be their women are smarter and more responsible with the use of contraceptives than are ours.

Guttmacher Institute — Clearly, abortion remains a common experience for women in the U.S.; roughly one-third of women will have an abortion during their reproductive lifetime. The overall abortion rate for the United States ranged from 19 to 29 abortions per 1,000 women over the last 30 years. But the overall U.S. rate masks large differences and varying patterns across time for demographic subgroups. Further research on abortion in the United States should focus specifically on the circumstances facing women in the population subgroups with the highest rates of abortion and unintended pregnancy. In turn, policies intended to increase access to abortion services and to increase women’s ability to avoid unintended pregnancy should likewise direct more attention to these subgroups.

I guess those subgroups are the dumb ones among us?

I was referring to the fact that in the UK and Europe, sex isn’t taught as something that should be saved for marriage (or something dirrrrrty that only bad people do). And, gawd knows, they REALLY don’t get the whole “reverance of the chastity ring” movement. I think they’re a lot more realistic about it, that sex is a part of life and a part of relationships.

Where they’re falling down in the UK is on the prevention of STDs (you don’t even wanna know the skyrocketing STD rate we’re seeing right now) and why kids should put off having children of their own.

A 78-year-old Carroll woman says she’s so tired of seeing President Barack Obama on the airwaves that she’s selling her television sets – two of them.

Deloris Nissen, a retired nurses’ aide and former Kmart employee who was raised on a farm near Audubon, placed a classified advertisement with The Daily Times Herald for Friday’s paper.

In the $5.50 ad, Nissen tells readers she has two television sets for sale.

The reason: “Obama on every channel and station.”

I get it USinUK. You’re a big fan of free sex, free contraceptives, free abortion, freedom from responsibility and may the unintended consequences be damned. IT’S ALL ABOUT THE SEX! (emphasis yours)

Come to think of it, why wouldn’t Illinois (Obama’s home state) mandate comprehensive sex education? According to Guttmacher abstinence is to be stressed but contraceptives don’t have to be covered as a preventative measure for pregnancy. Contraceptives are covered only as a preventive tool against STI/HIV.

What….no alternative methods of birth control.
