4:00 pm July 24, 2009, by Jay
For time immemorial, mankind has found something cleansing and redemptive in rivers. Well, far be it from me to break that tradition.
This is my official checking-out-to-go-on-vacation music, folks. For the next week, I’ll be floating and white-water rafting through the high desert canyons of the Deschutes River in Oregon ….

No Internet, no cell phones, no guides. Just a group of good friends, some beautiful scenery, great fishing for very large and feisty native rainbow and, oh yes, a cooler or two filled with cold beer. Somebody oughtta write a book about it.
Oh wait. Someone did.
Take me to the river.
Drop me in the water.
See ya’ll in August.
An Atlanta blog with a little bit of opinion about a lot of things.

I am jealous…of a democrat, no less.
Have a good trip. Nothing beats cooking your catch on an open fire by the river.
That’ll cost you 7 carbon credits for the open flame, send your check payable to Al Gore, and save a little extra for the value added tax on the trip.
But really, have fun!

“McCain Lawyers Investigated Obama Citizenship”
Said Potter: “To the extent that we could, we looked into the substantive side of these allegations. We never saw any evidence that then-Senator Obama had been born outside of the United States. We saw rumors, but nothing that could be sourced to evidence. There were no statements and no documents that suggested he was born somewhere else. On the other side, there was proof that he was born in Hawaii. There was a certificate issued by the state’s Department of Health, and the responsible official in the state saying that he had personally seen the original certificate. There was a birth announcement in the Honolulu Advertiser, which would be very difficult to invent or plant 47 years in advance.”

Hmm lyrics..(Should I dedicate this to Bookman?)
I was rafting down the river
As daft as I could be.
A great white bird flew over,
And before I could get some cover
I was soon to discover
Them birds aint eating blubber.
But, dear sisters and brothers,
When you talk to one anothers,
Keep tellin’ ’bout that river
How it makes you all aquiver.
And if you make it back to shore
You sure won’t be caught out there no more.
Chorus:
River river I’m coming home.
Soon as this jailhouse let’s me roam..
I’ll wade your waters and hook the trout,
and; keep that bottle close about.
River river I’m coming home.
Soon as this jailhouse let’s me roam.

If you were Saved you would all be godly Republicans.

No thanks to all your trout recipes. Put it in a shallow roasting dish, salt & pepper, drizzle with olive oil, roast until the skin is crispy. Pour off the oil, add butter to the oil, brown it up with capers and a lemon squeeze. Pour it on the trout and watch it sizzle.
Did the almondine thing once. So rich I could only get four bites down. Felt as though I’d wasted a perfectly good trout.
I don’t know any river songs except one they sing up Boston way. Muddy water…dirty water…somethin’ like that. There’s another one by Billy Joel. Don’t know the name of it either.
