This is a great version of a great song by a great singer. The man swings.
(and for those who didn’t notice, it’s because the girl in the G-8 photo was Brazilian)

The man’s voice is pretty amazing.
Furthermore, his signature, monster hit (You’re gonna miss my lovin’), inspired countless song stylists to even greater cover versions.

Great funky cover.
But I have to insist that the way under-recognized Antonio Carlos Jobim, father of the bossa nova, gets mentioned with Stan Getz. I do not know if the actual girl from Ipamena is the mother of the bossa nova. She may have been both inspirational and fertile. Besides the bossa nova is likely a love-child.

Well, I reckon this is another Bookman swing at that poor SC guvner. Only Ipanema is in Brazil, not Argentina.
You can’t hardly do nothing these days without being called out for it. You wake up one day and decide you need some time off and maybe hike the Appalachian Trail. Then you change your mind and decide maybe you need to spend a week in South America. You’re already almost late for your plane so you forget to tell anybody you’re leaving and where you’re really going. While you’re gone the newspapers are all over it.
Anyhow, that’s how I see things. We ain’t never going to get the White House back if people like Bookman keep teeing off on our best canadates.
And oh yeah, this Rawls guy is a mighty good singer for one of Those People.
Have a good weekend everybody.

“Girl” is unassailable base material with myriad sweet covers. thanks for introducing Rawls cover to me.
My favorite version, pimped from Napster many years ago, feels like an impromptu living-room test-track sung in both English and Portuguese. Possibly, it is the track off of the 1964 Grammy winning album – back when a Grammy was actually significant and not the modern Milli-Vanilli joke.

This New Journalism, if you can call it that, exhibited in 2008 was epitomized by an eradication of the lines between fact and opinion – and, even more troubling, between reporting and propaganda. Some journalists were content to repeat Democratic Party talking points or bloggers’ rumors as though they were established fact, interspersing them with ideological commentary in a kind of toxic stew.

Well, ain’t nobody mentioned Webb Pierce. Old Webb couldn’t carry a tune too good and he stole every song he could, but “There Stands the Glass” is a classic and sung with alot of feeling. His fancy neighbors hated him. He even got sued by them a couple times. One of them was Ray Stevens, the guy that sung “Ahab the Arab”. Webb drove around in a big Caddy with bull horns welded to the front and had a swimming pool shaped like a guitar.
