72 percent of GOP still ‘likely’ to vote for Palin

Like a lot of the political chatterati, I figured Sarah Palin’s odd decision to quit as governor — and her all-too-characteristic press conference announcing the decision — had finished her as a candidate for high national office. But in my foolishness, I failed to account for the fact that among her following, she can do no wrong.

A new Gallup poll drives that conclusion home. Taken Monday night, four days after Palin’s announcement, it reports that 43 percent of Americans still say they would be very or somewhat likely to vote for Palin for president, a figure that rises to 72 percent among Republicans.

Logically, I’d suspect that showing reflects an instinctive reaction among conservatives to rally around one of their own. If so, you’d expect that support to recede over time. But then again, logic doesn’t do much in explaining the phenomenon that is Sarah.

The headline reads

72 percent of GOP still ‘likely’ to vote for Palin

It’[s more significant that

43 percent of Americans very or somewhat likely to vote for Palin

In the fourth year of the Obama Depression, Gov. Palin will be looking pretty good. My prediction is that Obama wins NY, Cali, IA, and VT, and Palin wins the rest in a landslide.

I’m a liberal and G-d forbid she go in, but the delusional thinking is just as prevalent over on this side of the political divide. Like it, lump it, love it or leave it, she is a force to be dealt with and the loyal opposition’s out-of-hand dismissal is not wise stragegy.

Well, I’m not so sure that being an incumbent is an advantage if the world seems to be going to hell and government is seen to be at least part of the cause for that journey. And though many conventional politicians might be seen as quitters if they resigned their offices, I have a very strong hunch that Sarah Palin is constitutionally incapable of being seen as a quitter. Because she is not. She constantly is taking on the biggest challenge on her horizon.-Tony Blankley

She is now an “outsider,” like all the rest of We The People are.

Since there are so few self-identifying republicans these day, I think its safe to say that most of them would vote for a labrador retriever over Obama. This doesn’t say much except that the Republicans don’t pay attention to reality when considering who to vote for. They just listen to Rush and the other voices in their heads and act like the zombies they’ve become.

With all due respect, it is the fallacy of this type of thinking which “feels good” and ignores that 43% of all Americans which the anti-Palinistas need to be paying attention to. It still adds up to a loss, but a far less comfortable one…

Reprised from earlier:

She is a non-Republican’s wet dream, my man! And people all over the country are just praying (get it?) that she runs for ANY office. But alas, not for the reasons that her lamebrain “conservative’ “base” think.

And from Munch:

Sarah Palin declares “I am not a quitter.”

Facts: Palin has now QUIT every elected and appointed public position she has held. Also. She quit four colleges before she got a degree at her fifth.

“I am not a quitter.” Ranks right up there with “I am not a crook.”

And in case RB missed it downstairs:

I had ocassion to run into Zell Miller, a great American, last week. I said, “Hello Senator Miller, you look well.”

Proper ettiquette, as well as good breeding, demand that one be addressed by one’s highest earned title even if one’s term has ended. Hence, until January 2013, it is accurate and appropriate to address her as Gov. Palin. I, as do the hopeful multitudes, eagerly await the day upon which it is upgraded to President Palin.

It doesn’t matter who the repubs vote for and it doesn’t matter who the dems vote for, as they tend to cancel each other out.

What will matter, is who the independents vote for. And historically, they tend to dislike the far left and the far right. Pelosi and Reid may have more bearing on the outcome than the President, as they are pulling hard to the left.
