"My dear friends and fellow Alaskans: Several weeks ago I stood before you to announce my intention to resign. Since that time, I have been amazed by the overwhelming insistence of you, my fellow Alaskans, to continue the job I set out to do (even though I told you the other day that I had already accomplished it). I even asked my children if they were ready to forego the trips we have been making on the public dime, and they said, "Heck no! You mean if you resign we can't do that anymore?" So, like the hunter who, from the helicopter, sees that she has merely wounded the wolf, I will swoop down closer and blast away till those naysayers, those who will malign me, are dead. Alaskans will be proud of the way I conduct their business as I travel around our great nation, making speeches that proclaim how great I am while the Lt. Governor conducts the state business. So, with the calls for me to continue in the role of governor, I have decided not to resign."

I'm no Palin fan, but to compare the attacks on her and her family to anyone - especially the Obamas - is ludicrous. I didn't think she had the best experience to be the VP nominee, but she did have much the same amount of experience as Obama during the campaign. What she didn't have was 2 years of being vetted on the campaign trail. He did and passed with flying colors. And her 6 weeks were rocky, at best.

But the personal attacks on her have been nothing short of vicious and they've come from opinion writers, op-ed pieces, tv hosts, tv anchors, bloggers, Senators, Congressmen, Hollywood celebrities... basically anyone who can hold a pen or has an errant thought. And they didn't stop after the election. I agree she's kept herself on the stage - though not to any great degree - and hasn't handled herself particularly well. And it appears she has some very bad advisers. But none of that should incite the hate that is spewed about her in every venue imaginable.

The most disturbing part of this constant hate is how people seem to feel entitled to hate her - as though there's something right about it because, well, because she just deserves it. There's a crowd mentality feel to it that reminds me of that poor jogger in NYC who was beaten while people looked on and did nothing.

So - sorry, Jay, I don't see how you, or anyone, can compare any attack the Obamas have had thrown their way to the kind of misogynistic nastiness that's been said and written about Palin. It's a new low and there's no comparison.

For someone so seemingly despised by so many people, Palin sure can get headlines. If she really is yesterday's news and stands no chance in politics, then why are people still so interested and fascinated in her every move?? Every news website has THOUSANDS of reader comments under articles about her. News of her resignation even moved Michael Jackson out of the news for a few minutes. She's someone that everyone loves to hate, but for some reason, people can't get enough of her (on both sides of the fence). What gives?? If her 15 minutes of fame are really over, then why does every major media outlet have a million microphones in her face every time she opens her mouth?? I think a lot of people really like her (as a person) but know that it's cooler to appear to not like her. Call it the modern-day Evita...who knows?

One thing, and perhaps the only thing, that social conservatives and Democrats agree on, albeit with entirely differnt motivations, is that Sarah Palin must run for president in 2012.

As an independent that voted for Obama, I am still puzzled by Sarah Palin. My question in fairness to Republicans is - what if Hillary Clinton had quit years ago after all her ethics charges and multi-million dollar legal fees? Would Democrats have voted for her in the Democratic Primary? I certainly don't think so. Fox News - especially Bill O'Reilly - and other conservative pundits would've been calling her a quitter unfit for office. Now that one of their own has done what Hillary did not do, they're making excuses for her shortcomings. No matter how Sarah Palin spins it, she quit her office during the most difficult economic environment in our lifetime. She did not make tough decisions now that would hold up to scrutiny in the future. She can criticize Obama for making decisions when she chose to cut and run. In my book, she's a loser and should be called such.

God you Repugs are pathetic. Watching you "debate" each other is like watching a group of chimpanzees trying to figure out how to use a wrist watch. The real problem you people have is lack of mental horsepower.

Paul,
Are you a product of the public school system? I love the way you say these things were addressed to “most people’s satisfaction”. The only people that are satisfied with out any answer are the left wing nut bags like you. Since you say these were answered, or the questions were asked, show me where? And if you don’t think we are on the road to socialism, you are ignorant to what socialism is, so look it up.
