WASHINGTON — When President Obama arrived at the Mandarin Oriental hotel for a fund-raising reception on Thursday night, the new White House rules of political purity were in order: no lobbyists allowed.

But at the same downtown hotel on Friday morning, registered lobbyists have not only been invited to attend an issues conference with Democratic leaders, but they have also been asked to come with a $5,000 check in hand if they want to stay in good favor with the party’s House and Senate re-election committees.

So to follow through with that promise, Mr. Obama is simply leaving the room.

Reminds me of how “a Mafia Don” puts his enforcers to work so his fingerprints can’t be found on the weapon.

We used to feed the hogs cherry tomatos. The volunteer plants (how’s that for southern?) that came up around the hog pen were always so loaded with cherry tomatoes that the vines broke over. When I go to my grandparents house, even though it has fallen in, I can still close my eyes and smell the slop bucket behind the door in the hall.

NORMAL–Granddaddy went green way back–he had a “shower house.” It was on the other side of the storm house. In the winter there was a water tank with a small propane tank used to heat water before you took a bath–you boys turn that gas off when you get through–and in the summer time there was a water hose run across the concrete top of the storm house and hooked to the shower. Talk about a HOT shower! You weren’t supposed to wash your a** the same place you ate supper either!

JoseF…Granddaddy went whole hog, he even put in three bathrooms and a full wet kitchen for Granny. I’m not sayin’ he was the modern man of Kentucky, but we knew who ruled…Grandma.

NORMAL–priorities, t be sure. Uncle Ralph had his own fish-pond, even Granddaddy put his kosher seal on the catfish from theren since he knew what went into them. He had his own code. They like to have never got him to put in a bathroom, though Miss Georgia had one of the first “running water, water heater” kitchens in the area. Granddaddy said that the “Good L-rd didn’t aim to have you take a sh*t in the same place you ate your supper.” When he was finally convinced that Miss Georgia deserved the modern amenities, he allowed the “outhouse” to be installed, but it was added on to the back porch and you had to “outside” to get to it!
