Almost 6 months later, and STILL no Fairness Doctrine?

Julius Genachowski, President Obama’s nominee as chairman of the FCC, was asked the question point blank in his Senate confirmation hearings. His answer was the same given by every other administration official.
(And for those who note his youthful appearance, he is apparently 48, having worked with Obama on the Harvard Law Review.)

The good conservative folks over at Hot Air, having posted the video, then asked themselves how this could be true. After all, it contradicted what Rush and their other leaders told them was true. The obvious answer — the best way to resolve the contradiction, so their heads would stop hurting — was to suggest that it maybe it wasn’t true, that this guy is just lying.

But then, dammit, a flash of independent thought hit: “If the Dems are right that Rush, Sean et al. are electoral poison for the GOP because they alienate centrists, why on earth would they want to limit their exposure by reinstituting Fairness?”

Why indeed.

Also recommended is the comments section, in which Hot Air readers puff themselves up with veiled threats and further efforts to argue that the Great Rush had to be right about this, somehow, someway. For example:

“He’s lying. He’s just going to do a work around. There will be hell to pay. You think what is going on in Iran is bad, just let him try it.”

“They are going to take out talk radio a different way.”

“The liberal definition of “fairness” will morphe into the same animal with a different name. They have to silence Conservative voices to continue “remaking America”.

“Our liberties are disappearing everyday under this regime. We can’t trust the words of this BHO tool.”

“Of course he doesn’t support any type of ‘Fairness Doctrine’. He supports what Obama wants…. Getting rid of any opposition in any manner needed to achieve the objective of total control. Bring it on you Fascist bastages. I “hope” you’ll enjoy the “change” we’re gonna bring about when you actually try to silence us.”

“Liberals are always crying over the only one news outlet they cant control. Hell Democraps have tried everything they could to shut down fox news.. The liberals are WORSE than Hitlers SS divisions..
For they are taking a free nation and turning it into a communsit dictatorship…. Perhaps this is why the democraps wont speak out in support of the iranian dissidents. For in their hearts they really do support communists.”

That’s life in the alternate reality, folks.

Why would you ever expect his drooling minions to be any different?

Get a grip, Bookman.

And get up off your knees away from your picture of Obowo and man up.

The tool is a liar, has been from day 1, lying to the American people, to the world, and to the media, yet instead of doing any actual investigative reporting, the media slobber keeps his shoes as shiny as those teeth of his. Word is he has fired the shoe shine boy at the WH, because he is no longer needed, maybe the only POTUS in history that goes to bed every night with shinier shoes than he donned that morning.

Sigh.

It’s not the Obama Administration that’s talked about this.

It’s the Democratic leadership.

We’ve been over this how many times?

But as far as the Democratic leadership actually introducing legislation: we’ve been over this before, too. Sometimes the do actually introduce legislation to address fundamental problems. But on the hot button issues, the sensational issues, the headline Republican-bashing issues, the don’t. They just milk it for whatever they can, then move on to the next headline.

Some things are just too transparent.

What would candidate Obama say upon hearing the news that President Obama’s attorney general acknowledged yesterday that the administration will continue to hold terror suspects without trial indefinitely?

Once again, the harsh realities of a difficult war with multiple moral gray areas have forced President Obama to contradict candidate Obama’s simplistic moral grandstanding and come down largely on the side of the previous administration, with a few minor administrative adjustments.

Our little presidential comedy, hahahaha.

I guess Jay also thinks that the comments of getalife, Taxpayer and God Hates Trash are good indications of mainstream liberal thought.

Jay’s career is dedicated to maintaining antipathy between liberals and conservatives. What a pathetic waste of a career. Our democratic process is poorly served by partisan pundits who seek to poison the well of political thought for their own selfish reasons.

Well, I never watch or listen to libruls. If I’m watching TV and a librul comes on I turn my back and put my fingers in my ears. But sometimes when I’m watching Fox News I will listen to the token librul that’s surrounded by about five Conservatives. It makes the ridicule the others give the guy that much better.

But if they put this fairness doctrine in then when I watch Fox News there might be a librul program and a Conservative program followed by another librul program and a Conservative program. I would have to turn the TV off so much I might could burn it out. I might need to just keep it tuned to my other favorites, the cartoons and Cops. The cartoons are easy on the mind because you don’t have to think so hard. And Cops is good because I like seeing the crooks get Law and Order give to them by a nightstick and a pair of handcuffs.

Anyhow, you can just bet the libruls are scheming to make radio and TV put the fairness doctrine in. And that would be awful because it would be so unfair to us Conservatives. We took over talk radio fair and square and it ain’t right to get it took away from us. But maybe they would make all the TV networks put on more Conservative shows. I wouldn’t mind seeing ABC and CBS and NBC and MSNBC get their comeuppance. It would be a hoot to see old Rush and Sean show up on one of the librul networks and blast all the libruls that come before them.

Have a good day everybody.

Report/Whine

[[What would candidate Obama say upon hearing the news that President Obama’s attorney general acknowledged yesterday that the administration will continue to hold terror suspects without trial indefinitely? ]]

This is obviously false. Why am I so sure? Simple. First, it’d run Page One on the NY Times plus there’d be an editorial denouncing fascism, lack of constitutional rights, etc. It’d be a standard talking point not just on the cable shows, but the network, too. Correspondents would be relentless in pressing Gibbs.

But that hasn’t happened, so it must be false.

But wait, you say you have the AG saying so? Hmmmm. I see now why you posted this. Fairness Doctrine? To give both sides EQUAL access? EQUAL time? Given Phil Bronstein, past editor of the San Francisco Chronicle, just wrote a column “Love or lust, Obama and the fawning press need to get a room,” well, I’d guess the last thing the Obama Administration or the Democratic Leadership wants is equal coverage.

BTW – during the election, according to Pew Research, care to guess which station provided nearly identical favorable/unfavorable coverage of the candidates?

Here is a few more:

“We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country.” — Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

“Iraq’s search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power.” — Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

“We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction.” — Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

“The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons…” — Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002

“I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force — if necessary — to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security.” — Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002

“There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years … We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction.” — Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002

“He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do” — Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002

“In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members … It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons.” — Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

“We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction.” — Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002

“Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime … He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation … And now he is miscalculating America’s response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction … So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real…” — Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003

Actually, no he didn’t. He made a statement of his OPINION. What part of “gut feeling” (as opposed to PROOF) don’t you understand. Try reading the VERY FIRST sentence in the report you linked to:

“Mohamed ElBaradei, the chief of the United Nations nuclear watchdog agency, said it was his “gut feeling” that Iran’s leaders wanted the technology to build nuclear weapons “to send a message to their neighbors, to the rest of the world: ‘Don’t mess with us.’ ” “

Interesting how quickly this went retro to “Bush lied to get us into war with Iraq.” So many assumptions, so many statements of fact portrayed by both sides.

Just a day or so after a thread with the discussion of how Iran is acquiring a nuke (Doggone GA – good point, Elbaradei said it was his feeling) just a year and a half after Bush’s NIE was shown to have stated Iran stopped their nuke program years ago.

Yet Pres Obama and his administration speak as if it’s fact. Ongoing. Destabilizing. A game changer.
