REALLY? So the sentence for acts of terrorism is now 5-10 years, less with good behavior? This is earthshaking news, not to mention great tidings for all those life-without-parole convicts who only killed somebody.

Of course, plenty of detainees have ALREADY been released… but that’s because they didn’t actually do anything. MD, do you have a problem with innocent people being released from prison?

Or do you just assume that they’re all Moriarty-level criminal masterminds who will escape our flimsy, baling-wire-and-fencepost prisons. Oh, wait–that’s where they’re being held NOW. Number of escapes: zero.

So, again: What’s the problem here? If they’re imprisoned, they’re no threat. If they’re released, it’s because they’re innocent, or because they’ve served a sentence appropriate to their offense. I’m not really seeing the flaw in these basic principles of American justice.

At some point the odds are they will get out. Then what?

Correct; they go to another prison. What does that have to do with “releasing them in America,” as Harry claimed?

The terrorists are at Gitmo. The Pres and Democrats have called for closing Gitmo.

Democrats don’t want them in the US but have no idea where else to send them.

So they won’t close Gitmo.

On topic: wasn’t it a short time ago, under the previous administration, Democrats were introducing legislation to close Gitmo, calling it a ’stain’ on the US’s position in the world, calling it a gulag. etc etc etc?

So we have what appears to be a pattern, from this and other issues: take a high moral position to blast the Bush Administration and Republicans, then get in power and… abandon the position and backtrack, all the while blaming it on Republicans.

It’s getting predictably tiresome.
