A few weeks ago I told my dad that Billy Eckstine was probably my favorite male jazz vocalist.
No way — Johnny Hartman was better, he said.
Couldn’t be, I said. Eckstine was great.
It turns out Dad was right.
Again.
(Hartman comes in at around 2:15. Until then you have to put up with listening to some guy named Coltrane.)

Now, a month later, Pelosi is attacking career CIA officials for lying to Congress, and other Democrats are scrambling to distance themselves from her. Meanwhile, the Obama administration has pulled back on threats to prosecute Bush-era lawyers, reversed itself on releasing photos of alleged military abuse of prisoners, and embraced the use of military commissions to try captured terrorists. The administration now looks irresponsible when it lives up to candidate Obama’s rhetoric, and hypocritical when it vindicates Bush policies the candidate attacked.

Well, I stopped on the way home to buy some Skoal and Redman and the price is out of sight. Seems they raised the tax big time. Now they’re talking about taxing Coke and other stuff like potato chips and fried pork rinds. How’s a redneck going to live?
I got a idea for how to raise alot of money with taxes fast. First we need to slap a $10 tax on every cup of coffee that cost more than a buck. Then we can put a 100% tax on bottled water. After that we can tax the wimpy bicycle outfits about $50 per. After awhile we’ll be getting the attention of the limp-wristed libruls that like to tax the stuff bought by Real Men.
I see this Obama named this yankee from NY City to head the CDC. This guy never stopped till he got all smoking outlawed in bars & restaurants. They never said nothing about chewing while you’re drinking but I expect it’s against the law too. And he passed out millions of condoms to a bunch of teenagers in that godless city. I halfway expect he’ll go on a tear to take the guns away from law-abiding citizens next.
Anyhow, it strikes me that Bookman goes for the music that ain’t real country. He ain’t never put up nothing by Big N Rich or Buck Owens or Merle Haggard. And he didn’t even have the decency to put up something by Vern Gosdin after he passed away a week ago. Gosdin, that is, not Bookman. Libruls like Bookman never die. They just look kind of dead in their pictures.
Have a good weekend everybody.

We’ve become accustomed to our economic dominance in the world, forgetting that it wasn’t reckless deals and get-rich-quick schemes that got us where we are, but hard work and smart ideas–quality products and wise investments. We started taking shortcuts. We started living on credit, instead of building up savings.
Now compare that^^ BS to the way he’s running the economy.

The network is actually easy. There are about 20 different brands of internet radios now, anything from one half the size of an iPhone, to table top radios, to components for stereos that run anywhere from 100 dollars to a thousand. These will play mp3 streams, wmp streams and real player streams and also has a built in podcast aggregator so you can put in the xml or rss feed address and listen to any podcast you want. The technology has come a long way in the last few years since the first models came out
But there are older generation models that will only play MP3 streams that you can buy on Amazon.com for as little as 20 dollars (clearance items) that have RCA jacks so you can plug them into a stereo. I actually use that one more often than my more expensive model. It only has access to about 2000 streams mostly music, but you can add your own manually as well. And you can also use it to stream music that is on the hard drive of your computer too. My pocket sized internet radio also allows me to listen to whatever music is on my computer, has a database of about 12000 internet radio streams (Uses the VTuner database) and you can stream music off of your computer. You can also listen to the entire VTuner database of radio stations off the internet for free if you want. Thats at:

Panetta’s note was sent to reporters via the CIA press office. Here’s the key graph:
“Let me be clear: It is not our policy or practice to mislead Congress. That is against our laws and our values. As the Agency indicated previously in response to Congressional inquiries, our contemporaneous records from September 2002 indicate that CIA officers briefed truthfully on the interrogation of Abu Zubaydah, describing “the enhanced techniques that had been employed.” Ultimately, it is up to Congress to evaluate all the evidence and reach its own conclusions about what happened.”

Anyone ever listen to Last.FM. British version of Pandora, and it has some advantages that Pandora doesnt have. One is that it has the worlds largest music catalog online. The other is that there are a large number of versions of software that allows you to use it on PDA’s Cellphones, etc.
For those interested in just listening to various internet radio stations, there is Screameriradio.com. Freeware internet radio program that has a huge number of preset stations by genre or region and you can create your own favorites list and add new streams to it. Its one of the few internet radio programs that will play MP3, AAC+ and WMP streams. And it can be installed on a USB drive and be carried around with you. Has a rather large number of Jazz radio stations and music streams. I have also added the Live365 Hot Club Stream to it, which is devoted to the Swing Jazz music of Django Reinhardt. There are about 60 Jazz radio and Jazz streams in its presets. Accujazz is pretty good.

Ive been doing this stuff with internet radio streams ever since the first two stations started broadcasting their over the air stations parallel online.
WXYC in Chapel Hill NC started planning first, but WREK in Atlanta started broadcasting on the same day, in November, 1994. Almost 15 years this stuff has been around.
I used to be a shortwave radio fanatic, and had all kinds of shortwave receivers around, but one by one, the stations stopped radio broadcasting in favor of internet streaming.
Then there’s Slacker Radio, which is a portable device that links up to a on online service that is pretty similar to Pandora, and the Ibiza Rhapsody, which is a pocket wifi device that connects to the Rhapsody music service.
To get back to Pandora, there is another database that is used by the majority of internet wifi radios called Reciva. They have just integrated Pandora into its firmware, so you can play Pandora stations or your own personalized stations on it
All you do is go to your online Reciva account and enter your Pandora account information into it. There is a tab called “Premium” on the top of the page, and you just enter your Pandora account info, and then a choice for this appears on your wifi radio’s LCD menu screen.

Hillbilly you said you were listening to Bluegrass Gospel, so you might know this site, but maybe not:
http://www.powergrassradio.com/
I’m not much into country, or at least the way it is today. Have all of Hank Williams stuff though. My bluegrass tastes tend to lean towards Newgrass, rather than traditional. Dave Grisman, Andy Statman, and early Peter Rowan, but Statman has gotten into a totally different sort of music, having gotten religion, Orthodox Jewish religion, and no longer plays mandolin, but clarinet in his own Klezmer band. You can still hear a bit of bluegrass in the playing, but not much.
There are several folk internet stations that also play a lot of bluegrass as well. WUMB Boston has several different internet streams that are also over the air stations there on HD Radio, and Kent State University in Ohio had a station called Folk Alley, also an internet stream that plays a lot of traditional old folk music like the Carter Family and a lot of new bluegrass musicians.
I find I dont even need to buy much music anymore with all the internet radio stations available now.
One computer media player called WinAmp has a search function, plus it also has a section that links to the AOLRadio station streams, so you can choose an individual artist and under their name you will find a list of their songs that you can play on the WinAmp player. It only plays MP3 streams but has a plug in for WMP streams as well. I use it exclusively for MP3 and WMP formats, and only use Real Player when absolutely necessary. The Country menu has a good Bluegrass submenu
