I love this! Take a look at the 9th and 10th points above-

"What a quaint notion: The ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Jeff Sessions of Alabama, thinks Justice David Souther’s replacement should be committed to the rule of law without regard to “feelings toward a particular person or political group.” Mark me quaint."

And from the other side of the mouth....

"A federal judge in Jacksonville will decide the value of metro Atlanta’s claim to Lake Lanier’s water. Common sense should prevail, with water allocated on these priorities: 1) Drinking. 2) Flood control. 3) Jobs. 4) Power generation. Next case, please."

The first one says only the written law matters, and the very next one says screw the law and just do what makes sense. Priceless!

The major point was this:

The mistake was so costly precisely because the situation was, and remains, too risky to allow someone to experiment with amateurish, Hollywood style interrogation methods- that in reality- taints sources, risks outcomes, ignores the end game, and diminishes our moral high ground in a battle that is impossible to win without first capturing the hearts and minds around the world.

No matter who is to blame, who carried it out, who granted it, or who knew it. . . This causes us to lose ground in the war. The "End game" is so important, that risking that causes greater harm in the long run than doing what is right and just.

"if these methods are used against American POWs being held by a hostile country or group?"

Considering the ones captured now loose their heads, I don't think it is a problem. As a matter of fact, I bet they would love to waterboarded. Most already went through it in training. And it sure beats loosing ones head.

Why is it that nobody (pundits, politicians, whoever) is willing to ask the obvious - If we say now that waterboarding and other enhanced interogation techniques are not torture (and will not be investigated), are we willing to follow the same principle if these methods are used against American POWs being held by a hostile country or group?

I think this issue will come back to haunt us in the not-so-distant future.

Jay..I very seldom agree with you, but you got it right with this guys testimony, hard to dispute the words of someone who's job it is to carry out the policies of our military, people can invent their own versions of how they think things are, based on what their favorite politician tells them, but this testimony is the unvarnished truth given by someone with nothing to gain.

Obama is just like bush. He says he against certain things, but then keeps the same policies that Bush had. Off the top of my head, Stem cell research, the prison, tourture, and the recent issue with this. He says he is a democrat, but his action say otherwise. He is a burn and spend new age christian, just like bush. There is no change, unless you consider his skin color being a "change" in office. that may be good enough for some people. But not for me.

Once obama is gone, I wonder how the democrats will recover. We all know, he didn't get elected because of his stance on issues, but rather other superficial reasons. Is this all that america has to offer at this point. It is truly sad, to say the least.

jewcowboy,

Cheney's record in Washington in also in Google. He has an untarnished record as White House Chief of Staff, five times elected from Wyoming to the USA House Of Representatives where he bcame Minority Whip. From 1989 to 1993 he was Secretary of Defense. I assume you know he has seved as Vice President of the USA. Kinda a fine record, doncha think? So I am somewhat aware of the facts about Cheney and they look good. While we are judging politician's records would you care to give us Obama's vast experience in Washington? I thought not.

I have already mentioned the Washington standard for integrity.

Bookman has moved on and I shall too. Tomorrow maybe or sometime. Bon soir!
