Go ahead, make something political out of THAT!
Sigh.
I know you can and will. I just don’t know how yet.

Old friends are the best. Now, did you see that Lincoln penny in that video. A clear reference to Obama, no, wait, to the GOP, no, wait….Jay, you underestimate the capabilities of a determined political machine and its backers. There is nothing that cannot be politicized and I don’t use the word ‘nothing’ freely.
As for politicians. Most know how to talk the talk. Too bad they never learned to walk the walk. You know what I mean.

I will say that the conversation level has improved pretty dramatically now that you have gotten rid of many of the vulgarians.

Can’t do it. I’m a sapp when it comes to music. Doesn’t matter what political affiliation or what genre the artist has and comes from. Music is instrinsic and its in our soul, whether we like it or not. Sometimes I wonder why something as simple as music can be a such a unifier while as something like politics can be such a divider (as evidenced here on a daily and hourly basis). Jay, instead of dividing you should work more on the unifying bit. A lot more fulfilling.

Jay,
This will probably scare you to death but earlier today I was actually thinking about posting this very song. I’ve been thinking about an old friend who’s gone on and this song was stuck in my mind. It’s a great song and a great choice, made all the more poignant because we don’t have Roger’s genius anymore. At least we can enjoy Ray Price and his great voice a while longer.

April’s net job loss total actually was somewhat misleading: Private-sector employment actually fell by 611,000 jobs, but government hiring, which added 66,000 jobs, mostly for the upcoming census, offset some of them.
Bwahahahahahahahahaha, let me guess, ACORN workers, right?
Paying them with borrowed money.
And the Urinal brags about it.

Well, that’s the same way G.W. Bush was able to attempt to claim that unemployment was dropping during his presidency. The only two sectors that saw job growth were low paying service jobs and higher paying government jobs. And those government jobs that occured last month are at all levels of government, city, county, state and federal. Most of the jobs have nothing to do with next years census, but in preparation for this years stimulus package money. Need lots more people in the various building and zoning departments to deal with the permits to start using that money as well as for construction at for profit hospital, etc.

My granddaddy made likker in Trion, GA for a long time. He was not partial at all to strangers but he did teach me a lot of valuable lessons. But he never would teach me to make likker.

I think we can fairly draw at least one conclusion from this episode. The case of Nancy Pelosi provides the key to the “torture” controversy. It is a partisan charade. And it is a charade of a particularly disgusting kind. The Democrats’ “torture” charade is a case of low politics masquerading as high principle.-Scott Johnson
Gosh, I wonder where we heard that^^ before?

Speaking of ‘medicinal purposes’, my dad made homemade cough syrup for us in our younger years. He would ‘acquire’ some 190+ proof and add peppermint sticks and a little lemon and let it sit until the peppermint had completely dissolved. It didn’t work though. After one spoonful, we all mysteriously developed more coughs. So, he gave up on the home brew and went back to the store-bought stuff.

Making the good stuff is a lost art form. Most of the old-timers are long gone now. Granny always said that likker was gonna be the death of granddaddy, and sure enough, it did him in at the age of 93.

Jay,
I was unaware that Roger was at Ft. Mac. There was a lot of talent in the Atlanta area in those days.
Most all my folks made corn liquor at one time or another. It was the only cash crop in these parts. My Grandpa said if you couldn’t drink it like water you ought to pour it out. He believed in the old way, no adding sugar, or “sugar liquor” as he called it. (Adding sugar increases the amount of liquor you get for your ingredients and decreases the time it takes it to make). He said along in the 20’s and 30’s everything started going down hill quality wise when people realized that “the folks in the shot houses in Atlanta and Chattanooga would drink anything”.
lwwmm7:
I agree with you on the peaceful site. I’d vote for us to all declare a truce every week for the Travelin Music blog and keep politics out of it. That’s just me talking though.

Evening All.
Great music, nice folks. Thanks.
Saw the Star Trek reviews, I’d like to see it at the IMAX. So far I have lived pretty long and propered.
My Grandad built and repaired stills in Chicago during prohibition to support his wife and seven kids. He was part leprachaun to be sure.
I always adored him. I remember clearly the popping sound of the occasional home brew bottle cap exploding off in the darkest corner of the basement.
I spent 7 hours in the ICCU with my mom in law while her sn is 9200 miles away. Not a great day. Give me more good music please.
