Um, we don't have to wait for GM & Chrysler to fail let alone root for failure. They have failed. And taken several loads of taxpayer dollars with them.

Values? And what might they be? Good grief! We should have known when he changed his voter registration to Wyoming he was a rule-breaker.

Sure NJ, that was before the example that socialism is a collosal failure everytimg it has been tried.
Governement has a role but it's not to run business because they do not know how. They force people to pay taxes, you can't force people to buy crap they don't want. There's a difference in how that money is obtained.

Jay, it is called a product life-cycle. Most products eventually lose focus/the ability to compete, etc. At that point, they simply go away because they lose money. THAT is G.M, etc. They make a bad product and the are loaded down with union expenses. Their entire "product" simply can't compete anymore on a world stage. It happens to almost every product at some point. It is foolish to try and "save" them....they are going away....better not to throw good money after bad.

If the governement runs these companies they are as good as dead already.
The good news is that the UAW is going to lock horns with it's teet in negotiations. There's going to be some buerocrat telling the UAW what to do. That alone should be entertaining.
With the government's track record on running things GM and a Chrysler are here by and forever more on tax payer life support. They'll stop building good cars like the CTS and the Corvette and will build cheap, lousy hybrid roller skates that nobody wants.'
And what will be the result of this? Nothing, no lessons learned, no new effective buisness model put into place, they will just sit on their ass and hold out their hand waiting for the governement to put something in it.
There are few certainties in life but one thing is for certain, when the government takes over private enterprise, it ruins it. Look to Venezuela for a current example.

What needed to happen from the get go was to allow GM and Chrysler to fail, go through bankruptcy, an emerge with a streamlined company with renegotiated contracts throughout. This keeping GM and Chrysler as they are is like keeping an unhealthy 120 year old resuscitated at the cost of millions that could be spent on higher and better uses.

I will never buy another GM product either. I totally agree with Will that the government should not interfere with private industry. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that the dems and their messiah are in bed with the unions. They realize the more tax payer money that they pour into these failed organizations the more they will get back in return through donations. It's simple really. The largest block of dem voters are poor people who don't give anything because they can't afford it. ACORN is a perfect example. But if you give billions to industry who in turn give it to politicians running for office it’s a win win situation. Unfortunately for the ill informed taxpaying voter it’s a lose lose situation because hard working Americans will not reap any benefits from a nanny type government.
