Did Obama ‘borrow’ Voltaire’s prayer?

“I have never made but one prayer to God, a very short one: ‘Oh Lord, make my enemies ridiculous.’ And God granted it.”
— Voltaire

Somehow, I think Barack Obama must have been praying the same prayer. Otherwise, how could you explain things like this?

I assume you want people to infer that this one whacko article represents the conservative view in general. This is really low. Can we infer from Cynthia Mckinney.s outrageous comments in the past that this represents liberal thought?

I see from your first blog however, that it worked.

[[If your working premise is that they are going to attack anyway, get them incited quickly]]

These guys (writing this) really think AQ follows American domestic politics and that American politicians somehow have the ability to get them incited?

News flash. We’re Americans. Democrat, Republican, Independent, black, white, brown, yellow, male female, old person, child: they hate us all and would kill anyone if so doing would advance their cause.

Obama has, at most, seven and a half months. At that point it’s his. That’s all the time Bush had (Jan 20-Sep 11).

Nice to know God listens to the prayers of Democrats. ‘Course, the evangelical Republicans would say they’re just fulfilling prophecy, so I guess it all fits.

RUSH: — that was set up to help you deal with a housing problem that you had.

CALLER: Yes, sir.

RUSH: And then the next thing you knew you were being solicited by law firms throughout the country who wanted $2,700 to renegotiate your mortgage?

CALLER: Yes, sir.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: OCTOBER 30, 1997

SPEAKER’S STATEMENT ON VISIT OF PRESIDENT JIANG
Washington, D.C. — House Speaker Newt Gingrich released the following statement today following his meeting with Chinese President Jiang Zemin.

“As I said in China this spring, there is no place for abuse in what must be considered the family of man. There is no place for torture and arbitrary detention. There is no place for forced confessions. There is no place for intolerance of dissent.” “While we walked through the Rotunda. I explained to President Jiang how the roots of American rule of law go back more than 700 years, to the signing of the Magna Carta. The foundation of American values, therefore, is not a passing priority or a temporary trend.

Now, that’s a real hoot.

They just don’t get it and can’t admit they were beaten fair and square by a superior candidate.

Obama might have to pardon Bush and Cheney, as well as all the others, to keep the torture issue from interfering with his agenda.

I’d recommend going on red alert. It’s not a coincidence that both attacks on the WTC occurred during the first year of new administrations.

Paul,

The most effective methods available for terrorists to take credit for killing massive numbers of Americans would be for them to take ownership of some American company such as, Oh, I don’t know, R.J. Reynolds. Then, again, there are so many methods to choose from if you think outside the box and consider some of the more subtle approaches instead of bullets and bombs. Then again, such methods do lack pizazz.

Mrs. G, you hit the nail squarely on the head with that 7:06.

The GOP – hijacked and hemorrhaging. And potentially mortally wounded.

Kamchak, the Republiconned cling to that “C” word desperately, but most Americans see through the charade. Finally!

It only took eight years of an unmitigated neo-con disaster, but most reasoned and reasonable mainstream Americans now know that the name, ideology and people are all frauds.

And worse, inept and deadly frauds.

What I find funny is how some are apparently so embarrassed by the faux conservative track record, and the fact that they voted for Less than Curious George, they are now “right of center” or “libertarians” or as one nut here calls himself, a “Constitutionalist”.

If the center were at the far reaches of the right-wing, then yes, I agree they are right of center. Otherwise, another inane GOP slogan gone awry.

A dumba$$ by any other name…

As I said earlier, the same thing can be said about companies such as R.J. Reynolds in their lust for money. Terrorist nut jobs get all the attention though because they do something more shockingly awesome. Of course, one also has to consider how one goes about getting attention. First, one needs easy access to a news media….there are some things that money most certainly can buy.

Kamchak,

It would seem that one of the MANY problems with the modern day Republican Party, albeit perhaps their largest one, is that it seems as though there is very little, if any room, for moderates. Certainly at the top.

The Reagan/Newt/BushCo gang are the Republican apparatchiks. Complete fealty to the party is required. And Party First, Party Last, Party Always is what has gotten them in their current abysmal situation.

Just look at the reaction to John McCain. He was absolutely vilified by the oracles of the right-wing – Coulter and Limbaugh, among numerous others. His record was perverted by the perverse. He was maligned for “amnesty”. (Which of course, it was not. It just sounded good to the brain-dead and uninformed.) He was even said to be against “free speech” for his attempts to reign in campaign corruption.

And I was personally thrilled to see him best every one of those knuckle-draggers and BushCo acolytes in the campaign.

That man, in my opinion, has more honor than virtually the entire GOP “leadership” (and I use that word loosely) combined.

What a moral victory for America, that the now-polluted GOP could not even get one of their flat-earth darlings and chickenhawks nominated.

And apparently all northeastern Republicans, such as Snowe, Warner, Chaffee and Collins are traitors.

And if they think the arse-whippings of the past three years or so have been bad, I’m guessing there are plenty more ahead for the Party of No…

Before the late 70’s, the power struggle in Washington was between the Executive and Legislative branches of this government, and the checks and balances worked–not always well–but worked. Then came Regan and the evangelicals, and republicans became united by God. Thirty years later this is the result.
