The bloom is off the Palin rose

Sarah Palin, sanctified by many Republicans just a few months ago as the party’s next national leader, can’t live up to the hype. She has been overexposed and underwhelming, and the trajectory is clearly downward.

As the AP notes:

“Last month, Republican presidential candidate John McCain wouldn’t commit to endorsing his running mate for president if she ran in 2012. This week, he didn’t even include her name in a list of young and dynamic Republican governors.

Palin once wowed thousands of supporters at campaign rallies, but was dropped recently as the keynote speaker of a high profile Republican fundraiser in Washington, D.C., after a communications mix-up between event organizers and her political action committee.

And this week, lawmakers are slashing her budget ahead of a Sunday adjournment. Instead of staying in Juneau, Alaska’s capital, Palin plans to attend another partisan fundraiser: a Thursday night county right-to-life dinner in Indiana.”

That decision to leave the state as the Legislature comes down to its last critical hours doesn’t have legislators very happy with her either. “We’re a small state,” state Rep. Jay Ramras, a Republican, told ABC News. “When you get down to the last days of the legislative session it’s a little bit like the last two minutes of a basketball game. You want to have your best players there”

The New York Times quotes a leading Alaskan Republican as being pretty disenchanted with her leadership, or lack thereof.

“The source of the greatest tension this year between the Legislature and the executive has been certainly the appearance that the executive is prioritizing her national image, her national brand, over the day-to-day operations of state government and the interests of the State of Alaska,” said Mike Hawker, the Republican co-chairman of the House Finance Committee.”

Then there’s the whole Levi Johnson mess, and Palin’s attempt to reject federal bailout money, a step other leaders in Alaska see as an effort to win national acclaim at the expense of the people of her state. The state House recently voted unanimously to accept the money that Palin is trying to reject.

All in all, Palin is coming off as what she is, a shallow neophyte. Historians will shake their heads in wonder at the idea she could have been nominated to be one heartbeat from the presidency.

Aahhh, yes, I was wondering if we had been cured of our PDS but here it is, rearing it’s diseased head-

“Last month, Republican presidential candidate John McCain wouldn’t commit to endorsing his running mate for president if she ran in 2012. This week, he didn’t even include her name in a list of young and dynamic Republican governors.

It just goes to show you what a real clown McCain is and how lucky we are he wasn’t elected.

The Conservative movement would have been in a shambles by now.

Instead, sweet resurrection, yes!

We own your socialist as-ses, Obozo is so ova.

No Palin fan here, but I think recent history has proven that “shallow neophytes” can be elected president.

“he didn’t even include her name in a list of young and dynamic Republican governors.”

This is only semi related to the topic at hand, but am I the only one a bit puzzled by McCain’s behavior of late? Maybe he’s just joking, but other than that I don’t see why he wouldn’t at least pay lip service to Palin’s prospects; where’s the harm in that?

It is a bit puzzling. You’d think a former candidate would at least mention his running mate. Nothing says he’s have to endorse her but it strikes me as a little bit classless to now act as if she doesn’t exist.

McCain doesn’t mention Palin because he realized too late for himself that he made a collasius mistake. How many of us like to admit we were wrong?

Is there an opening at the Anchorage Daily News that Jay B is auditioning for? I guess bashing Sarah Palin is easier than facing the facts of the disaster we did elect though.

Guess I’ll head to the forest and meet you all upstairs later. Maybe we’ll have another Dear Jay B column on how to improve the Republican party by then.

I think Newt sees himself as the savior of the Party. A Gingrich-Palin ticket in 2012 would thrill the right-wing base, carry 3 states, and get 25% of the popular vote. The GOP is like a slow-motion multi-car pileup right now…you don’t want to stare, but you can’t look away…

HD, that’s more or less what I was thinking too—it’s not just somewhat politically inastute, it just seems kind of petty or, as you say, without class; ungentlemanly, if you will.

Put it this way: I’m sure that (for example) Al Gore had some pretty serious post-election issues with Joe Liebermann, and you can bet that Kerry thought Edwards debated like a wuss, but there weren’t any public displays of disaffection that I was aware of, mere months after their respective defeats. Nor of Dole for Kemp, for that matter.

The fascination (or obsession) of the left over Sarah Palin continues to amaze me. Seriously. Has there ever been a vp candidate that got so much coverage and hand-wringing and snide comments post-election?

John Edwards, Joe Lieberman, Jack Kemp, Dan Quayle, Lloyd Bensen, Geraldine Ferraro all pretty much faded into obscurity after election night, and Edwards/Lieberman didn’t really start making news again until after they ran for president themselves.

The GOP does not need improvement. It is perfect just the way it is. Newt/Palin or Palin/Newt works just fine for me. Get that message out there to the people. Newt is against big business. hehehehe. I’m sorry. HAHAHAHA. Stop it. I just cannot stop laughing when I hear Newt being against his source of income. HAHAHAHA.

Since the “bloom is off the Rose” and “the fork is in because she’s done”, then we are all through with Sarah Palin.

If this is true then I suppose this will be the shortest post that Jay has ever had. And it will be the last time we read about Sarah Palin in Jay’s blog and maybe even in the MSM.

And yesterday little gatherings were nothing more than a picnic for white America.

Too bad little boy “doctor” Chadly isn’t here for this topic. Palin was one of Lady Chadderly’s biggest fans.

I bet he even has a poster of her on the bathroom wall.

Of course all of the losers here rail on about Palin, sounding like a bunch of chickens scratching and cackling when the farmer is outside the pen with the grain.

As in everything else you losers focus on, it is always yesterday[’s news, or last years’ people. As I have said many many times, the inability to focus on the here and now, much less the future, is why as of the ignoramuses are, well, ignorant.

I do actually find it troubling that the conservative party has imploded. One very strong party and one very weak party bodes ill for the health of our nation, regardless of which is which. Throughout history, the U.S. was made strong because there was vigorous debate and compromise. It’s sad to see the conservative party hijacked by the far religious right, moderates are pushed out. One of the most disheartening things of this past election was the removal of moderate Republicans from office. As happy as I am to see them replaced by Democrats, they were holding the Republicans together. Now moderate Republicans, who are fiscal conservatives find themselves without a voice, and the ultra right religious have an outsized voice.

ty, I’ve been inquiring of the other so-called conservatives on these blogs for two years what it is that defines that ideology.

And to date, have gotten a big fat zero in response.

I have also outlined in detail how the biggest part of this movement is anything but conservative. Never was and never will be.

And I, apparently along with millions of other Americans, believe that the GOP of the past two or three decades has been essentially hijacked by this new-age fraud conservatism. Yet all of it’s adherents on this blog call themselves true conservatives.

Ask them.

Jay, you say, “Historians will shake their heads in wonder at the idea she could have been nominated to be one heartbeat from the presidency.”

I doubt that historians will discuss this 100 years ago. Too sadly, they will discuss how the country could elects someone so inexperienced, corrupt, surrounded by even more corrupt individuals, polarizing, ideologically blind, weak and disrespected by the international community, and self-loating of Americans as President Ob-amatuer.

Happily, they will also be discussing how the Jindahl/Palin election in 2012 saved the American way of life that President Ob-amateur was bent on destroying.
