Swingin’ on home with the great Joe Williams

Back in the Vegas days, we’d see Joe Williams at some of the jazz clubs around town; sometimes we’d see his old Basie buddies Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson and Harry “Sweets” Edison too. They’re all gone now.

I doubt if Harry and Eddie are playing with Basie here, but they still do cook, yes they do.

Oh, and by the way, Joe Williams hailed from Cordele, Ga.

Obama Budget Director Dismisses Republican Spending Blueprint

“There was some confusion as to what was released on Thursday; that was not our alternative budget,” Ryan said. He termed it “a broader Republican economic agenda” and said he would unveil the party’s tax-and-spending plan that includes specifics on March 31.

Ryan, 39, declined to say how large the deficits would be under the Republican budget proposal he will offer, saying he is awaiting more data from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office. Still, he said it would be lower than the $1.4 trillion deficit Obama’s budget is projected to produce next year.

“We’re going in a different direction,” he said. The Republican plan is “going to borrow a lot less money, it’s going to spend a lot less money and it’s not going to raise taxes,” he said.

Asked about news reports that he was embarrassed by the outline presented by Boehner, Ryan said: “I was concerned that this impression would have been made in the media, which was people would think that this document that was put out last Thursday was our budget and it’s not.”

Corporal, where do you get this idea that Obama has been converted by some briefings? He is doing exactly what he said he would do during the campaign. If anything, this approach is a little more cautious rather than a little more aggressive than what he talked about doing in Afghanistan.

The only reason this would surprise you is if you believed the right-wing caricature of Obama. Those of us who didn’t aren’t surprised at all, which is why you’re not getting the response of shock and dismay from the left that you so clearly expect.

I’m not sure whether UPS fell for the liberal gang war or not, but I quit using UPS years ago. They’re about as customer service oriented as the Post Office.

The other day I had exchanged some equipment for a customer on a contract through a third party and the prepaid returns were one item going back through FedEx and one through UPS. In both places I just happened to be third in line. I was out of FedEx in three minutes and UPS in twenty five.

Isn’t it great that unions and government can provide equally horrible service while a free market non-union shop gives first class service?

1) I generally support him in this endeavor …
2) I believe most democrats do not – but many will not openly (yet) say so(make peace not war)…
3) He must be careful to listen to his generals …
4) He must not get bogged down (just concentrate on killing terrorists – especially the leaders) in a country where the borders cannot be controlled …

As I said before, if I go down to Bankhead Highway to take a walk right now, with a Confederate Battle flag on the back of my jacket and a hundred dollar bill taped to my forehead …. I have the “right” to do that but I am in trouble.

If I am assaulted, robbed, beaten up or worse … whoever does that should be prosecuted and punished to the full extent of the law.

However, I bear some responsibility for what happened. As a result, I should have no right to gripe or sue anyone civilly for anything.

Of course, that was a worst case scenario. Women who put themselves in varying degrees of danger bear some responsibility based on what it is they have done.

For example, a prostitute, dressed as they do, who goes into a vehicle with a complete stranger, at night and “gets raped” must bear a great deal of responsibility. Yes, you can ask to get raped !!!!!

Another example – a young college woman who allows herself to get drunk at a bar, won’t leave when her girlfriends do and then lets “someone” she met there drive her home also bears “at least some” responsibility.

Surely this is not difficult to understand ……………

P.S. I like those investigative ambushes ……. the left has done them for years. Turn about is fair play.

Trust me, it is a great investigative tool. Show up at someone’s place of business, or their gym, or after the PTA meeting …….. it’s great fun and guess what …… they have a bad habit of agreeing to talk/answer questions (at least for a little bit) and it is usually to their detriment.

Why? Because they either tell the truth (which helps in furtherance of the investigation) or they lie (which hurts them in court later)!

Yet Mr. Obama kept falling back yesterday on his campaign trope that Afghanistan would be going well now if not for the detour in Iraq. It’s more accurate to say that Afghanistan got markedly worse after Pakistan’s government cut its 2006 deal in Waziristan that created a Taliban sanctuary. Mr. Obama is not going to sustain GOP support by continuing to campaign against George W. Bush.-WSJ
