Unleash the Gubernator!

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger told reporters yesterday Tuesday that he didn’t face the pressure some Republican state legislators faced in pushing through a necessary tax increase because unlike the legislators, he wasn’t going to be running for anything.

Did that mean he would not challenge Barbara Boxer for her U.S. Senate seat?

“When I say I’m not running for anything, that’s exactly what I mean . . . until you change the Constitution.”

Should we change the Constitution? Not specifically for Arnold, but for others as well. Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, for example, was born in Canada and is ineligible. We take a lot of very smart, talented people out of the candidate pool with that native-born requirement, and for no rational reason that I can think of.

And as a bonus, once the Constitution is amended, Barack Obama could finally come clean about his REAL place of birth. Right guys?

You brought it up ! I have three questions for you. They all can be answered yes or no.

1) Did the State of Hawaii release Obama’s “Certification of Birth” document (note: this is not a birth certificate)?

2) Under Hawaii law, could a child have been born out of the United States and receive such named certificate (if his mother had lived in Hawaii for one year prior)?

3) Did the State of Hawaii release Obama’s “Birth Certificate” (note: this document – unlike the “Certification of Birth” document – shows additional information including the hospital of record and attending physician)?

What I have gathered from many of you is that you feel you should be able to insult anyone whenever the urge strikes, without repercussions. Well, I’m informing you now, it doesn’t work that way. I never attack anyone without provocation. But I will NOT sit back and be attacked and say nothing.

1) The answers to 1:04 are Yes, Yes, No.
2) Will the actual “birth certicate” ever be released. I doubt it.
3) Will we ever know for sure where he was born. I doubt it.
4) If we were to find out he was born in another country and therefore on a “technicality” not a U.S. citizen, would the Supreme Court ever rule he is not President. No. They don’t want to start a civil war and I don’t blame them.
5) So why would it have mattered during the electin “if” (and I say “if”) he was born in Kenya.

I’m sure there are naturalized citizens who are more apt to have our country’s best interests at heart, rather than some ninth generation American who can quote his ancestors all the way back to the rich landowners who stepped off the Mayflower.

I say that if you are a naturalized citizen for 35 years, then that is in line with a minimum age of 35 to qualify to be president (for those born in the States).
Of course, the “born in the States” could reflect the fear that someone would rule favorably to their birth country. I don’t see how that is much different than the current haphazard way in which we give nations “most favored” status.

I for one could care less if a future President were born on Mars, if he was deemed fit for the job. Voting for the ‘anti-Bush’ is about the least intelligent and informed reason one could vote at all.

BUT, there is this little document known as the Constitution, and it is quite specific. Since it is the very foundation for our system of government, and was designed with specific purposes, unless it is trashed or amended, it pretty well rules the roost.

I will not go into specifics as to why foreign born persons should never be eligible, except to explain to the incredibly ignorant something that even they might understand, such as an allegiance to a foreign country or ethos, or worse, obligations to such that may be felt or coerced into being fulfilled by the power of the presidency. Enough said about that.

One can speculate about many more relevant things, such as:

… how long until the economy collapses,

…or the US dollar is revalued to equate to something worth less than, say, a sheet of toilet paper,

…or the Arabs play real hard ball and shut off the oil to make our economy fold, with no self-dependent sources of oil, or new energies that have yet to be developed,

…or just how poor a bowler Obama really is.

As for Arnold, he needs to make one more Terminator movie before age destroys his physique any further.

Bottom line: Anyone can say anything. It has to be verified.

Bosch:

You are being very reasonable here and I appreciate that. However, it appears you have only been skimming my previous points so I will try it carefully one more time:

1) A “Certificate of Live Birth” is what is called a “covering document”. It is a separate document from an actual “Birth Certificate”.

2) The first document (Certificate of Live Birth) merely states the person was “born” in Hawaii. However there is something in the law called a “legal fiction” and that is what this document “can be” depending on the circumstances. At that time one could get that document whether you were “physically born” in Hawaii or not. There was a provision in the law (you can look it up or I will provide it to you) allowing a mother to have a child overseas but if she had lived in Hawaii for one year prior she could come back and apply for and receive that document for her child.

3) The second document (Birth Certicate) contains much more information including the name of the hospital on Hawaii, the attending physician, patental information, length & weight of the child, etc., etc.

4) The first document has been released and was posted by “G” at 2:12 above. The second document has not been released.

5) State of Hawaii officials were very circumspect in their release of the document. In effect, they merely said ……. here it is – it speaks for itself. They would not disclose even verbally the contents of the “Birth Certificate” nor even state which hospital he was born in.

6) My point is …. this could all be cleared up with a simple release of the “Birth Certificate” by Obama/staff.

7) My question to you again is what could be the possible reason for not releasing this document ?

I’m not purposefully skimming around your post, I was just confused as to the difference.

Thanks for clearning that up.

But, in order for Obama to run for President, he would have to prove all this to the proper authorities, right? And it would have to be verified. So, do you think this wasn’t verified by the proper authorities whose job it is to do this?

Did John McCain release these documents to the press or to the public? Has any other person whose run for POTUS done that?

I think it’s really unfair to ask this of Obama considering he had to fill out the required documentation just like anyone else, based on nothing more than a rumor or right wing conspiracy theory.

Just because you feel or the press feels, or the super right wing people of the country feel that the State Officials in Hawaii were kind of circumspect, doesn’t mean it was so.

It’s real easy to create conspiracy theories based on a person’s dislike of a candidate. And if I were Obama or a staff member, I’d direct someone who asked just as they have.

Regarding your 3:17.

Of course he/his campaign staff/attorneys verified the documentation for him to run but “only” with the “Certification of Live Birth” which I hope you can see by now has nothing to do with one’s actually birth location.

He “could” have been born in Kenya and still be a citizen. That is not the issue here as he is President and that is NOT going to change.

The point is “where” was he born and was there a deception during the campaign? I think the American people deserve an answer.

It could be cleared up immediately with a release of the actual Birth Certificate. Do you not find that a little odd?

To answer these ludicrous charges would give credence to the wingnuts and put him on the defensive, exactly where they want him to be. It would then be followed by further ludicrous demands in the form of “urgent questions that the American People need to know,” such as “Were your parents really married” and “What proof do you have that Islam was never mentioned in the school you attended”?

Such questions, with their obvious paranoid-hatred inspiration, deserve to be ignored… and that’s exactly what Obama has done. Just because you can dream up a stupid question doesn’t produce an obligation for the President to answer it.

I was about to put that up here assuming that liberals would be more excited about blaming Israel instead of Obama.

The fact of the matter is, confirmation of “who” is lacking.

Who pulled off the reported attack and why? If reports of the scale of this attack are accurate, it would have taken more than a single unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to pull it off, even the more heavily armed MQ-9 Reaper. The U.S. military operates out of Camp Lemonier in Djibouti, the base of operations for counterterrorism efforts in the Horn of Africa. Aircraft as large as the AC-130 gunship are thought to operate from there, though most of the presence there is thought to consist of CIA and special operations force elements. The Pentagon certainly has the assets in place to accomplish an operation like this.

It is a 600-mile flight down the Red Sea and the coast of Egypt before Israel planes could arrive at the Sudanese coast, and then get further inland for the actual strike. But Israel has aerial refueling capability and strike fighters capable of the inland leg that could then be refueled over the Red Sea before returning to base. Israel thus also certainly has the capability to do something like this.

Were any other countries’ airspace violated?

Why were the Egyptian authorities not notified? The decision to proceed with a direct strike that would take significant planning suggests that it was more important to destroy the convoy immediately than to trust the Egyptians with the intelligence.

Finally, this was not a strike of opportunity carried out by a UAV that happened to be in the area. As mentioned, if reports of the scale of the attack are accurate, refueling aircraft had to be in place and manned strike aircraft armed and briefed on the mission. Even on a contracted timetable, that takes actionable intelligence with significant longevity.

What was this intelligence and where did it come from?

Can you answer all those questions, mm?

Mrs. G,

think that’s funny?

take a look at this:

The Party of No (Ideas)

Republican leaders posted their “Road to Recovery” report online, and it’s more or less a joke. Apparently — I hope you’re sitting down — the minority party believes the nation will thrive if we cut taxes, stick with Bush’s energy policies, and pursue more deregulation. How much would this cost? They don’t say. How would this affect the deficit? They don’t say.

DNC National Press Secretary Hari Sevugan, not surprisingly, took a swing at the ball that Republicans set on a tee: “I’m all for changing the way we do business in Washington, but proposing a ‘budget’ that doesn’t use numbers may be too much for me. After 27 days, the best House Republicans could come up with is a 19-page pamphlet that does not include a single real budget proposal or estimate. There are more numbers in my last sentence than there are in the entire House GOP ‘budget.’”

The GOP was on the offensive, pointing to vulnerable points in the Obama administration’s agenda and pressuring center-right Democrats to break with their party. Now, they’re on the defensive, pretending to have credible ideas and presenting a bizarre “budget” with no numbers in it.

Just an observation here; when did the liberals become so intolerant of anyone that disagrees with them? By definition they are supposed to be “wide minded” and appreciate “diversified” opinions. The exact opposite is exposed on this blog day after day after day by the same few people. The ironic thing is, those same people rave on and on about how intolerant the “ultra conservative/rightwingers” are. If they would just take time for a moment of introspection, they would see that they have become what they claim to detest and therefore they are hypocrits. I don’t usually reference any one posters comments and I abstain from personal attacks but “G” at 1:06 said it all. That person basically said, “We don’t want to hear peoples opinions that are different than ours. This is our site and Jay is our leader (Sorry Jay, I know that must make you uncomfortable. It would me.)”.

As far as the topic at hand, this is a non-topic. My head tells me if a person is born elsewhere but becomes a legal citizen under the laws of our land, who gives a crap if they can run for president? It isn’t like being born here gives you some special quality that makes you a better president. BUT, if it is unconstitutional, then as far as I am concerned, it is a done deal. We should follow the constitution. I think our forefathers were a heck of a lot smarter than us.

About the Sudan air strike and who did it…Strange!

In the first place, it happened in January and they are just talking about it.

Neither Israel nor USA are being definite about WHO did it. Israel said they would always bomb against terrorist threats. Sudan said they thought of USA and Israel as one.

The convoy was on Sudanese territory when attacked but supposedly headed for Egypt but thought to be for Hamas. The Sudan envoy to Egypt said he had not heard about any attack.

The convoy is said to have rockets and military supplies for Hamas. The Sudanese say the convoy was nothing but trucks full of civilians.

Sounds like somebody is trying to dig up something over two months old.

Most bloggers here are not interested. They prefer to praise Obama, repeat old stuff about Bush, insult conservatives and giggle over each other. They don’t even worry about the Constitution and do not want anyone to ask questions about Obama or even Michelle. THAT is not nice!

The question about a foreign born person becoming president does bring to mind several things.

Most of us know very fine people who were born elsewhere and are now USA citizens. OK..

But…there are some ways to become US citizens that take less than five years.

Consider, just for example, someone who lived most of their life in communist China but recently became a US citizen in less than 5 years. Perhaps this person is very smart, charming, eloquent and wishes to become President and has support.

If the law barring foreign born for President is changed, that person would have every legal right to become president. Would that be a wise move?

I think not. Too much time and influence has been spent in that person’s upbringing in an environment different from American. They may become very good citizens. But for President of the USA…NO. Do not change the present requirements for President of the USA.

Bosch:

Again, you hit the nail on the head.

Obama is President and that is never going to change. The Supreme Court wouldn’t touch it even if there was a “technical question” as to his citizenship – and there isn’t – at least not now.

However, I believe there is at least a good “possibility” he was born in Kenya; if so the staff discussed it, they felt it would cost him votes (probably true) and therefor decided to conceal that fact.

That is all the point I am trying to make (and I think someday we will know for sure). We don’t now and if you were honest with me I think you would agree – we just don’t know.

To me that was wrong. The American people deserved to know. Deception then (if true) begets deception now in policy, etc. Old habits are hard to break.

I did read your 4:03 and all that tells me is that the state official verified his birth certificate along the proper channels. Again, if you think the state official is covering something up, then whatever. I don’t think Obama and his staff were in on some secret plot to deceive the voters.

The Top U.S. Marginal Income Tax Rate of 25% on Taxable Income of $100,000 or more.

It’s a funny night…the GOP Budget

From TPM:

Late Update: Ezra Klein calls it his favorite “budget” ever:

If you’re having a bad day, I highly encourage you to spend some quality time with the Republican budget proposal. It’s reads like what would happen if The Onion put together a budget. “Area Man Releases Proposal for 2010 Federal Spending Priorities.” (Though, to paraphrase William F. Buckley, it turns out that I’d prefer a federal budget written by an area man than the first six names on the House Republican Leadership roster.) …
The threat going around the Capitol is that some impish Democratic chairman will ask the CBO to try and score the Republican proposal.

OK back to the point of the blog, I personally, would not care to change the requirements for president. Someone who has that much power in his/her hands; should be refined to being US born citizens. Keith Olbermann just called it the fudge it plan.

Seriously, if there are any Rushpublicants on here who can defend your party using full complete sentences, do so now. If not, get off and go do some real heavy lifting by working on your party. It’s in its death throes. The party of Lincoln is bankrupt – morally, intellectually, and fiscally.

If Republicans are the party of no ideas, the Democrats are the party of bad ideas.

The good news is that the Obama administration is going to make all of us millionares. The bad news is that a loaf of bread is going to cost $800.

Meanwhile, Hillary (not realizing that her appointment was just to get her out of the country) is on the world-wide apology tour. Of course she is right about the US funding the drug business in Mexico.

There is a solution that helps on both fronts. Legalize marijuana and tax it. The O-man just raised the tax on cigarettes by 2 cents a cigarette, what if the government picked up a buck or two on every joint and blunt consumed in the country?

The absolute shallowness of the leftist liberal minds is indeed to small to measure.

I give you as evidence the childish postings last evening of G, Midori, and Mrs Godzilla. G and Midori are so, so predictable, and their lack of intellect shows with virtually every post, but Mrs G, I must say I am a bit disappointed in you joining the kindergarten circus and dimwitted repertoire of the other two.

You are generally above that.

I also hope some sanity returns to Washington when it comes to voting on this budget, but I doubt it. There certainly hasn’t been any so far.

And Taxpayer, I liked your comment about the ‘phone book’. Perhaps it is more a compilation of liberals that can be trusted, or liberals with integrity, or liberals with fresh new ideas that actually make sense, and not to be outdone, Republicans that actually consider themselves conservatives.
