California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger told reporters yesterday Tuesday that he didn’t face the pressure some Republican state legislators faced in pushing through a necessary tax increase because unlike the legislators, he wasn’t going to be running for anything.
Did that mean he would not challenge Barbara Boxer for her U.S. Senate seat?
“When I say I’m not running for anything, that’s exactly what I mean . . . until you change the Constitution.”
Should we change the Constitution? Not specifically for Arnold, but for others as well. Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, for example, was born in Canada and is ineligible. We take a lot of very smart, talented people out of the candidate pool with that native-born requirement, and for no rational reason that I can think of.
And as a bonus, once the Constitution is amended, Barack Obama could finally come clean about his REAL place of birth. Right guys?

“[§338-17.8] Certificates for children born out of State. (a) Upon application of an adult or the legal parents of a minor child, the director of health shall issue a birth certificate for such adult or minor, provided that proof has been submitted to the director of health that the legal parents of such individual while living without the Territory or State of Hawaii had declared the Territory or State of Hawaii as their legal residence for at least one year immediately preceding the birth or adoption of such child.”
2) Statement of Dr. Chiyome Fukino – Hawaii Department of Health:
“Therefore, I as Director of Health for the State of Hawaii, along with the Registrar of Vital Statistics who has statutory authority to oversee and maintain these type of vital records, have personally seen and verified that the Hawaii State Department of Health has Sen. Obama’s original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures.”
Notice there is no mention of the “place of birth”.

You could very well be right.
An alleged Israeli air strike in Sudan targeting an arms convoy destined for Hamas sheds light on Iran’s long-standing relationship with the regime of Sudanese President Omar al Bashir. That relationship, however, is likely to come under stress as al Bashir’s problems pile up.
Olmert’s response to the accusations? Minister Ehud Olmert responded “There is no point in elaborating … Whoever needs to know, knows.”

Just an observation here; when did the liberals become so intolerant of anyone that disagrees with them? By definition they are supposed to be “wide minded” and appreciate “diversified” opinions. The exact opposite is exposed on this blog day after day after day by the same few people. The ironic thing is, those same people rave on and on about how intolerant the “ultra conservative/rightwingers” are. If they would just take time for a moment of introspection, they would see that they have become what they claim to detest and therefore they are hypocrits. I don’t usually reference any one posters comments and I abstain from personal attacks but “G” at 1:06 said it all. That person basically said, “We don’t want to hear peoples opinions that are different than ours. This is our site and Jay is our leader (Sorry Jay, I know that must make you uncomfortable. It would me.)”.
As far as the topic at hand, this is a non-topic. My head tells me if a person is born elsewhere but becomes a legal citizen under the laws of our land, who gives a crap if they can run for president? It isn’t like being born here gives you some special quality that makes you a better president. BUT, if it is unconstitutional, then as far as I am concerned, it is a done deal. We should follow the constitution. I think our forefathers were a heck of a lot smarter than us.

@@,
About the Sudan air strike and who did it…Strange!
In the first place, it happened in January and they are just talking about it.
Neither Israel nor USA are being definite about WHO did it. Israel said they would always bomb against terrorist threats. Sudan said they thought of USA and Israel as one.
The convoy was on Sudanese territory when attacked but supposedly headed for Egypt but thought to be for Hamas. The Sudan envoy to Egypt said he had not heard about any attack.
The convoy is said to have rockets and military supplies for Hamas. The Sudanese say the convoy was nothing but trucks full of civilians.
Sounds like somebody is trying to dig up something over two months old.
Most bloggers here are not interested. They prefer to praise Obama, repeat old stuff about Bush, insult conservatives and giggle over each other. They don’t even worry about the Constitution and do not want anyone to ask questions about Obama or even Michelle. THAT is not nice!
Anyway, if you find more info on this air strike, let us know. I am still trying to figure out why they are talking about it NOW.

About a year and a half ago, my husband’s cousin was on target to go to Iraq to help train their military. He suffered a mysterious brain bleed which required surgery. His mother, while worried, was hoping it would keep him from going to Iraq. As a matter of fact, it was the first thing she said to him in recovery. It irritated him. The question about a foreign born person becoming president does bring to mind several things.
Most of us know very fine people who were born elsewhere and are now USA citizens. OK..
But…there are some ways to become US citizens that take less than five years.
Consider, just for example, someone who lived most of their life in communist China but recently became a US citizen in less than 5 years. Perhaps this person is very smart, charming, eloquent and wishes to become President and has support.
If the law barring foreign born for President is changed, that person would have every legal right to become president. Would that be a wise move?
I think not. Too much time and influence has been spent in that person’s upbringing in an environment different from American. They may become very good citizens. But for President of the USA…NO. Do not change the present requirements for President of the USA.

Of course it doesn’t. The didn’t even issue birth certificates then. By you logic the Constitution doesn’t cover police searches of aircraft because planes didn’t exist then. The point is …. there are requirements to run for President from how you can raise your money to are you a U.S. citizen.
Bosch:
Again, you hit the nail on the head.
Obama is President and that is never going to change. The Supreme Court wouldn’t touch it even if there was a “technical question” as to his citizenship – and there isn’t – at least not now.
However, I believe there is at least a good “possibility” he was born in Kenya; if so the staff discussed it, they felt it would cost him votes (probably true) and therefor decided to conceal that fact.
That is all the point I am trying to make (and I think someday we will know for sure). We don’t now and if you were honest with me I think you would agree – we just don’t know.
To me that was wrong. The American people deserved to know. Deception then (if true) begets deception now in policy, etc. Old habits are hard to break.
Just one man’s opinion.

I think the Sudanese President is still angry over being called a war criminal. I had not heard whether relief supplies to Darfur had started again after he angrily stopped them. Those refugee camps must be one big hell hole.
Last night there was a program on HIV in South Africa. Sounds like it is rampant and increasing. The health officials are fighting to control it. In one city alone, clinics had 900 people come every day for anti-viral drugs.
Out in the countryside, whole families of children were taking care of themselves. One family showed a 19 year old girl with a baby of her own, (and going to school) while being caretaker for 8 of her little brothers and sisters. They lived in a small mud hut. Seems children-led families are common out in little villages. The parents are dead from AIDs.
Some of these problems are almost unbelievable and hard to imagine. Government officials there are worried about the future generations of their country which will be mostly from these families without parents.

Clearly, the Republican Party needs a unifying figure to lead them through this dark time in their existence. Someone like Arnold. If only, they could get the Constitution changed…House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) raised objections to an abbreviated alternative budget “blueprint” released today — but were told by House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) they needed to back the plan, according to several Republican sources.

The situation in South Africa has always been heart wrenching and sadly, a reoccurring situation. I don’t know what the solution there would be. Did you ever see the movie, “Blood Diamonds”?
I can’t recall the characters’ names but there was this African man who had, through extenuating circumstances gotten involved with Leonardo DiCapprio who was, for the most part, a greedy capitalist. Leonardo eventually had a change of heart and died trying to help the African and his son. The African guy told DiCapprio that he had great hopes for his country and its people. You could see it in Leonardo’s eyes, without a word being spoken….it’s a pipe dream. The people of Africa have always been exploited by their leaders and other nations. Africa has a wealth of resources that other countries drool over.
Other than divesting, I wish there was something more we could do. President Bush holds a special place in the hearts of the African people.

An official said today that Obama’s planners thought they had about 12 months to show measurable progress in Afghanistan before public support would wane and the policy turn into a Democratic-Republican political issue. The planners fear the war could become an election issue as the mid-term Congressional elections in November next year draw near, and that Congress might be increasingly reluctant to fund the strategy.

And this, folks, is what passes these days in this country as an opposition party. It seems like the Grand Obstructionist Party is again a day late and a dollar short.
There they go! Little brown pieces swirling in the bottom of the political commode just before they make their rapid exit from the scene.
Swoosh! They’re gone!

Laugh on, dear liberal hearts. When the debts of this country finally drown you, and the nurses aide does your surgery, and there are no banks any more ’cause there’s no money, and no insurance ’cause the government owns everything including your home hovel…I hope you will still be as happy and as goony as you are tonight. What a bunch of loons. Wonder if they can walk in the marsh and swallow minnows!! Loons swallow anything that’s fed to them!

@@ and Ms Godzie,
I saw a program on the health problems in D.C. Nothing surprises me about Washington and D.C. anymore. Maybe the new CDC director will hop on that. New ones always jump on a special big problem. Do we have a new director yet? I have not heard of one. Bush sent millions to Africa to fight AIDs but it is such an extensive epidemic.

Just when I thought the GOP couldn’t go any lower, they surprise me yet again. At this point, they remind me of a bunch of juvenile frat boys attempting to impress each other with stupid tricks.
What really scares me is that these bozos were in power for the past 8 years, and it took a national crisis to uncover their true nature. Unfortunately for us, we’ll have to suffer the damage they’ve caused for a long, long time.

“Just an observation here; when did the liberals become so intolerant of anyone that disagrees with them?”
Don’t judge liberals by the silly comments made by the intolerant and ignorant partisans on this blog. There are plenty of intelligent and tolerant liberals out there. They just don’t hang out on this blog.

Budget with no numbers. Sounds a lot like the $1 Trillion 2 1/2 page bailout plan, with the no-questions allowed disclaimer, authored by Hank Paulson.
You know you need math to do science; Rushpublicants don’t like science . . . is it because they can’t do math?

Well, so many years spent finding “just-like-me folks” to suit their base rather than thinkers–oops, elitists–who could solve problems will get you just that, vacant looks and pictures of windmills. Funny, I wonder if they realized the “tilting at windmills” connection…
