I see where Bill O’Reilly and his thugs are up to their old tricks again.
March 23rd, 200912:12 pm
And they whine about a AIG bus tour.
March 23rd, 200912:20 pm
A couple of points:
1) Left wing news organizations have a history of doing these “ambush” interviews. I don’t care for them either but now that O’Reilly does them it’s all of a sudden a problem? Liberal hypocrisy and the old double standard rears it’s ugly head again ……………
2) Question: We live in a free country. If on a hot August Saturday evening about 11:00pm I decide I want to take a walk by myself down Bankhead Highway with a $100 bill taped to my forehead and a Confederate battle flag on the back of my t-shirt, should I hold any personal responsibility for what happens to me?

March 23rd, 200912:24 pm
There you go Corporal, blame the victim. That is a good old conservative approach. Now I know why you didn’t make it past Corporal.
March 23rd, 200912:29 pm
Goose (Radical Progressive Left), Gander (Radical Conservative Right).
If you don’t like Goose and Gander use Pot and Kettle.
Either can apply to Bookman or O’Reilly. Except for that little thing called an audience. O’Reilly has about 4 million viewers each day.
So how did the audition go on Friday?
March 23rd, 200912:32 pm
O’Reilly’s tactics are lame, but is it any more lame when Michael Moore does it?
Can you provide us with a link to some left wing “ambush” interviews.
Please teach the history.
March 23rd, 200912:41 pm
O’Reilly is like anyone newshack at NBC, the only difference is that he actually has an audience. How low are the NBC news ratings this week, can anyone see that far and deep into that hole?
March 23rd, 200912:43 pm
Keith Olbermann is the thug. No wonder he gets crushed by Orielly each night.
On another note, http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123776518094909023.html
this article details how Obama commented on how he inherited a $1T deficit, but he is going to more than double down on that.
March 23rd, 200912:44 pm
And here I thought “thugs” was an Atlanta specific term…guess not.
Thought the following from another blog was a quite accurate description of the current administration –
It’s as if Dr. Seuss had written the script…
We will tax you at your job;
We will tax you as you speak;
we will tax you, helpless mob;
we will tax you ’til you’re weak.
You don’t like this tax you say;
bend o’r and take it anyway!
You bought our line, took the hook,
now your precious liberty we took.
So cry your heart’s out helpless lot,
Our hope in a poke you’ve literally bought!!
I Report/ You Whine
March 23rd, 200912:56 pm
Yeah , this from a liberal who has no problem with the government stalking our tax dollars, energy usage, place of employment, etc, etc, etc.
At least you can tell O’Pinko to go FH.
March 23rd, 20091:00 pm
That must be an exceptionally hard game of sudoku you have going Bookman. One sentence and one pilfered link…man work is such a drag.
March 23rd, 20091:01 pm
The stalking is bad enough, but the original story itself — that O’Reilly really does seem to think that a woman can be “dressed like she was asking for it”, in two thousand and frickin’ nine, is the real outrage.
RW, downstairs you wrote that you were from the NE originally. I did not know that. I’m not from there, as such, but I spent a coupla decades in N. NJ, so if you don’t mind, may I ask the whereabouts for you?
Totally understand if you don’t want to get specific, just wondering.
Also, I can verify that substituting “ax” for “ask” is something I’ve heard from a variety of races and classes up there, for what that’s worth. Of course, if you really want to drive me up a wall, pronounce “Especially” Ecks-specially, or “Et cetera” Eck-cetera.
Also, for what it’s worth, I am familiar with the small, rather prosperous little NJ town whence this young lady, Ms. Moore, who was the victim of a vicious rape and murder, had hailed. It makes me sad to realize that I probably knew people who knew her, and may well have crossed her, or her family’s, path at some point some years ago.
March 23rd, 20091:02 pm
This is new and unique to O’Reilly?
Isn’t there some real news out there? Something about a new plan for Obama to use our money in a so called public/private pool where he just happens to assure that the “investors” can’t lose? ….at least until he’s long gone…
“man work is such a drag”
Davo, once again–if you think you can do it better, blogger.com is ready when you are.
If not, kindly STFU with this tired crap.
March 23rd, 20091:08 pm
I’m with you…
I don’t always agree with our Host, but he is our host.
March 23rd, 20091:10 pm
“If not, kindly STFU with this tired crap.”
Bookman has found a champion I see. I guess even hacks can muster a fan club these days.
March 23rd, 20091:11 pm
I know I’ll regret asking, but ESR @ 12.41, did you really mean to type “NBC?”
As for O’Reilly’s mighty ratings, I’ll admit that 2.5 million or so viewers is pretty good for cable, although he’s still ranked 15th overall for such programming, well behind Hannah Montana, Wrestling on WWE… but getting closer and closer to Spongebob!
You are right. With all the news going on in the world is this the best thread to come up with?
Rush Limbaugh for President:
Ah my friend, thank you! I have just been waiting for the first person to say “you’re blaming the victime” so I can go forward with my next post:
You miss the point. The perpetrator should always receive the full punishment of the law for his actions whether in my analogy it occurred on Bankhead Highway or my front yard . The stupidity of the victim (but only if that is the case) should never come into play regarding the prosecution of the perpetrator. Thus, it is “possible” for a prostitute to be raped if she decides at the last minute she doesn’t like the John.
That said, the stupidity of the victim (depending on the type of stupidity) should come into play regarding any public forum grievance about what happened or the right to sue the perpetrator or anyone else invlolved civilly. You MUST bear some responsibility for your actions.
In other words, I want the perpetrator punished but I don’t want to hear any whining in the case scenario I described or that of a prostitute who is raped after knowingly getting into a car with a horny stranger.
Remember the case of the burglar who had stolen a very heavy television in the middle of the night and as he went down the back steps of the residence, a stairstep cracked, he fell through he broke his leg? He sued civilly and won damages.
March 23rd, 20091:12 pm
I have a mixed marriage. I’m from Eastern Mass, she’s from Western Mass and we met in the south.
I went through the proper detox of living in Florida for three years before moving into the real south though so I believe I qualify as a true southerner now. My wife didn’t go through that proper detox so she’s still a Yankee.
March 23rd, 20091:13 pm
I’m not doing your homework for you. If you haven’t watch “60 Minutes” or similar news programs over the years that’s your biased problem.
March 23rd, 20091:14 pm
Davo, I’m more than happy to criticize Jay when such criticism is merited. I believe I accused him of doling out troll chow just the other day.
I’m merely noting that you’ve here to complain that he hasn’t offered you two or three column-length posts per day. which is ridiculous, when his conservative counterpart barely shows up each day (and hasn’t bothered to reply to individual posts with any regularity for ages).
March 23rd, 20091:16 pm
P.S. to RW:
There is so much negative news on Obama (even from some democrats) that Jay had to post something like this to try to draw attention away from the ongoing debacle.
March 23rd, 20091:17 pm
It may not be Jay B’s fault. Considering the rift between his boss and O’Reilly it may be mandatory that he post these things.
What’s funny is that O’Reilly is such red meat for liberals. He’s one of them and slobbered all over Obama almost as much as Chris Mathews.
March 23rd, 20091:21 pm
All the have to say in a Bill O ambush;
How is Andrea Mackris doing with all that money Bill paid her?
What was Bill doing with that vibrator?
corporal@ 1:11 you make mention of rape involving a prostitute.
In your scenario, would the crime you mention be considered…
B.)Theft by taking
March 23rd, 20091:23 pm
Did anyone see Jon Stewart’s show a few months ago about O’Roilly using his staffers to follow people around with cameras, when O’Roilly himself criticized the paparazzi for doing the same thing?
It was genius.
March 23rd, 20091:24 pm
60 minutes confronting scofflaws is liberal ambushing?
That sounds a bit paranoid.
March 23rd, 20091:27 pm
I believe I qualify as a true southerner now.
I never was sure how that worked. While I spent enough time in the NE to develop something of a northeastern cadence to my speech, my Great Plains childhood keeps me from sounding very “Jersey.” I could probably pass for Southern if I were of a mind to do so.
I liked MA enough the times I’ve visited but hey, if you’re not happy somewhere, no reason to stay.
March 23rd, 20091:30 pm
Good one but you don’t want my real answer ……….. )
To Mrs. G.:
Why, an ambush is an ambush. The person ambushed has nothing to do with the policy of ambushing.
Nice parry but didn’t work.
March 23rd, 20091:31 pm
And another thing… not to pick on RW (or even Davo, for that matter) but when he asks “Isn’t there some real news out there?” — this is a bit puzzling to me.
Most blogs I know of are nothing more than the proprietor’s whims being reflected in a post. As much as I’ve enjoyed, say, Atrios’ joint over the past few years I never expected him to be my one-stop-shopping experience for news and information. Hell, the guy’s latest post is entitled “Lunch Thread,” and it’s nothing more than that headline and a fresh place to dump comments.
March 23rd, 20091:38 pm
Why assume I would not want your answer?
I think the accused should be charged with theft by taking, the prostitute chose to make her body a place of business, since she does not have operating business hours then one could assume that the victim was “on the clock”. Therefor the wealth was affected more than the psychological or physical effects, as many of those same effects could be operating cost of the prostitute’s business.
Is that what you thought my answer would be? How would you classify the crime, and why?
It wasn’t really a matter of whether I was happy in MA or not. I moved out when I was three so I didn’t really have a feel for that kind of thing yet.
On your other point, this isn’t really a blog in the traditional sense. According to Jay B it’s a newspaper that’s trying to make the transition to being an online source that happens to publish a print copy. Carrying on a silly vendetta only makes it looks like a traditional blog which will only speed the paper/website’s demise as it gets lost in the weeds.
But JAMES, you said specifically liberal…..
March 23rd, 20091:40 pm
From previous thread -
Thanks, but I know what the definition of “pretend” is, and would you like to actually address what I wrote or continue to dance around the topic?
In case you forgot, I’ll remind you: how is Obama being dishonest or pretending when he has in many cases included Republicans in discussions? In my opinion, the Republicans are not willing to compromise which is completely irrational given that the American people voted them out of the majority, or into the minority, however you want to call it, and are not in the position to get their way completely without some kind of compromise on their part.
Joey? Would you like to address that or do you have another lame definition to throw out instead?
I’ll even give you another topic to discuss: why is it that people such as yourself continue to call Obama a socialist when he has given no indication or carried out any action to suggest that he is trying to make the state in charge of private businesses or revenue – if anything he is trying to get the private sector up and running again.
March 23rd, 20091:42 pm
Lets not forget O’Roilly paid an undisclosed amount of money (supposedly in the millions) to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit filed against him by a co-worker, Andrea Mackris. Part of the settlement was that she never speak of it again. Google it.
DB and RW,
I know this is random, but I hate it when people try to sound Southern, like in the movies or on TV.
March 23rd, 20091:43 pm
To Corporal(a.k.a legal scholar)
Corporal, the laws are not written with punishment decided on how smart or dumb the victim is. In your world white people who walk thru black neighborhoods are asking for trouble or vice versa, women who dress sexy are asking to br raped, children who walk home from school alone are asking to be kidnapped, old people who are taken advantage of by slick salesmen deserve it.
You sound like a throw back from the wild west. The times they are a changing and you best try to keep up. Demoted to private.
March 23rd, 20091:44 pm
“On your other point, this isn’t really a blog in the traditional sense. According to Jay B it’s a newspaper that’s trying to make the transition to being an online source that happens to publish a print copy.”
Methinks the apples are being compared to orangutans; i.e., I don’t think Jay’s blog = ajc.com
But, point taken about the bloglike object we behold on our screens at the moment having to carry some more water for the AJC than a typical crummy little blog as one might have free via blogger.com.
March 23rd, 20091:46 pm
“O’Roilly paid an undisclosed amount of money (supposedly in the millions) to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit”
I’m sorry, I can’t hear you–I have a falafel in my ear.

And! If he had thrown down a 50 would a crime have been committed at all. ew.
March 23rd, 20091:50 pm
Were you please with the finale? It topped the Bosch list of greatest series finales’ of all time, but considering there was only one on that list, the series finale of MASH, that’s saying something.
Good grief, jay……all I get from this piece is that you enjoy dining on discarded scraps.
Maybe you should get a more demanding job.
March 23rd, 20091:51 pm
Bosch @ 1:42,
I agree completely. If Hollywood can’t find somebody with an authentic accent they should drop the attempt. Southernspeak seems to be something you either do naturally or just can’t do at all.
Except that one time in Savannah where a ghost took over my wife to tell another couple, “y’all have a good night, y’all” in a completely authentic southern accent. If you knew her you’d know she would never utter that phrase in a million years much less make it sound right.
March 23rd, 20091:56 pm
I thought it qualified as a grand finale. I mean, they covered a lot of ground with good and evil and history repeating itself and humans being some sort of hybrid and….there were more twists and turns and tangents and what not in there than I ever expected. I originally thought that Starbuck was going to be revealed as a cylon and she turned out to be some sort of Angel/messenger.
A while back O’Roilly cut off a caller on his radio show just for mentioning Keith Olbermann’s name, then threatened the man on the air with “Fox Security” and said that local police would come to his door. O’Roilly was positively foaming at the mouth with anger.
Olbermann, of course, milked the incident for all it was worth. I couldn’t stop laughing.

March 23rd, 20091:59 pm
Bosch: Let’s replay: I responded to G that President Obama is not being honest when he pretends to include Republicans or when he says nice things about Republicans.”
You, Bosch responded to me: “Why is that being dishonest?”
So what you you asked me is: Why is it being dishonest for Obama to pretend to include Republicans or pretends to be nice to Republicans?
My response was that you did not comprehend my original comment. It is intuitive that “pretending to include or pretending to be nice” is not honest.
So again: why is it dishonest? Because he is pretending, and the definition of pretend: To claim or profess falsely.
Hope this clears it up for you.
March 23rd, 20092:00 pm
I thought they did a good job. I almost had to leave during the battle scene – it was too intense, and I thought that was going to be the whole show – everyone killed, I was glad they gave the audience a sense that everyone was going to be okay. I’d been disappointed if we were left with them still wondering around homeless.
That special effect when Galactica jumped after the battle and it looked like the ship was going to fall apart – I thought, well great, the ship is going to burst into flames and we still have another hour. That was an incredible effect, one of the many good things about that show.
I’m off to the vet then to do yard work (yuck). Later all.
March 23rd, 20092:02 pm
Okay, that’s great, but you still haven’t addressed my response. I don’t like to dance, but apparently you do, and that’s fine.
I’m off to do some yard work.
March 23rd, 20092:04 pm
O’Reilly’s a bully, and–like all bullies–a crybaby to boot. He dishes it out every day and can’t take it when anyone calls him on it.
No wonder he’s a spokesman for the radical, ignorant right.
March 23rd, 20092:08 pm
You being a Christian and a devout believer in the New Testament stuff and that Book O’ Revealing Elations, do you think that there is any significance to the fact that the S&P 500 low as 666. Is it a sign that all 500 of these companies have something in common.
All I know is I have more tems left in my Brackett than Obama. I wonder how many O’Reily and Bookman have left?

Here’s O’Reilly ambushed in his driveway….dig that oufit….
March 23rd, 20092:13 pm
I suspect that the only time the air stirs in the AJC editorial department is on Fridays when they hand out paychecks and when Jay Bookman actually bothers to show up for ‘work’.
Why’s anyone surprised at anything The Falafelator does? As for the “liberal” media pulling off ambush tactics, take heart, rightwingers. It’s only a mtter of time before Rupert Murdoch succeeds in buying up what’s left of the media corporations he doesn’t already own, and he’ll make sure he stifles any content that has even a glimmer of moderation or accuracy. Then he can take himself & the rest of the Faux News crew on the Loofahpallooza tour with Wee Billy Winky– sexual harassment and right-wing slavering for everyone! YeeeHAW!
March 23rd, 20092:25 pm
Well, I see the libruls want to throw that old lawsuit in O’Reilly’s face. He didn’t do nothing dirty to that woman. All he wanted to do was take a shower with her. If that ain’t clean I don’t know what is.
Bill O’Reilly – Similar in size, shape and texture to and therefore often confused with a SheYawn Hannity. Many loofahs and falafels confuse the two, particularly when the loofah is halfway brain-fried on Vicodin (oops, sorry, that was Pillboy) and Jack Daniels and has attempted phone sex with a much younger falafel in his employ.
March 23rd, 20092:32 pm
Bosch @ 1:42 writes: I know this is random, but I hate it when people try to sound Southern, like in the movies or on TV.
Amen to that. I’m sure people in other parts of the country say the same thing about Hollywood’s portrayal of their area too. The first irritating thing is that they assume there is “one” Southern accent. According to linguistics professors there are 14 with variations within those. Georgia itself has 3 distinct accents, North, Middle, and South. A person in Tidewater, Virginia sounds nothing like someone from Low Country, South Carolina who sounds nothing like someone from Appalachia who sounds nothing like someone from the Mississippi Delta.
There is a very interesting book called The Story of English, which was a companion book for the PBS series from several years back. It explores the different forms of English all over the world as well as their roots. Until I read that book I didn’t realize there are more regional accents in England than there are in the U.S. For instance the people who settled Jamestown, Va. were mainly from the south of England while those at Plymouth were mainly from the east of England. Hence the origin of the Virginia and Massachusetts accents. What is today considered “standard” English is really just the upper crust London speech of days gone by. (That’s where the Royals were). Anybody who is interested in language would probably love this book. Hope I didn’t bore the rest of you too bad.
March 23rd, 20092:34 pm
Bill O’Reilly is an idiot. Rush Limburger is an idiot. Bill Maher is an idiot. Jon Stewart is an idiot. James Carville is an idiot. Neil Boortz is an idiot. And so on and so on… The more extreme their views, the bigger the idiots they are. Amazingly, they all have something relevant to say. Unfortunately, it gets lost in the bluster that is fueled by their enormous egos. Here’s a good rule of thumb – If they write an opinion column for a newspaper, they’re idiots. If they appear on television, they’re complete morons. And don’t think for one minute that each one is not driven by the quest for the almighty dollar. Not one actually cares about you or I or what happens to us.
March 23rd, 20092:36 pm
I love Bill O. Jay Bookman is just jealous, cause he is scared he may lose his lob when the Urinal Constipation has the next inevitable round of layoffs. Jay is just upset that his brand of “Journalism” is dying, and the other brand (with a conservative tilt) is growing. Hey Jay, how ’bout trying for work at PMSNBC, CNN, NYSLIMES, ABS, CBS, or NBS. Shoot, thats right they are suffering too. Hey Jay, you could always write stuff folks want to read.
March 23rd, 20092:39 pm
Davo, the only time the air stirs in the AJC editorial department is about 2 hours after “Burrito Fridays”.
Other Brand of Journalism with a conservative tilt?
What in heavens name is that?
March 23rd, 20092:43 pm
I’m originally from Tidewater, VA (born there), and now have trouble understanding my siblings who still live there.

***That said, the stupidity of the victim (depending on the type of stupidity) should come into play regarding any public forum grievance about what happened or the right to sue the perpetrator or anyone else invlolved civilly. You MUST bear some responsibility for your actions.***
A person should be free to walk around without a stitch of clothing on and should not have to wory about being raped, gawked at, whistled at or killed. We come into this world without a stitch of clothing and should not be victims of someones inability to CONTROL themselves or their actions.
If a rich man decides to drive his 500SEL Mercedes onto Bankhead and gets carjacked, should he be subjected to comments such as yours and Bill O’Reilly? I mean…. he wasn’t trying to cover up his riches.
If he drove his BMW onto Northpoint Parkway and was carjacked once again, should he purchase a PINTO? Shouldn’t he try to cover up those riches?
March 23rd, 20092:47 pm
DB, yes…I meant to type NBC. N-B-C….got it? I know O’Rilly is not on NBC, he is on Fox. I was just saying they’re all tv personalities, the whole lot of them; O’Rilly, Hannity, Oberman (MSNBC) and Chris who gets tingles down his legs, which I hope he see’s a doctor about unless it’s a homoerotic slant on the news, which probably is in his case. Not that there’s anything wrong with it. The thing that singles Fox out on this list is that people watch Fox, look at the ratings.
March 23rd, 20092:50 pm
I’ve always enjoyed listening to the Tidewater people. Their accent is sort of lyrical to my ear. It is different but isn’t that what makes America so interesting? We’re all sorts of people and places.
I remembering watching that PBS series a few years ago and they were talking to an old man from the mountains of North Carolina. They used subtitles with his speech and I was laughing cause he sounded just like all the old people I knew growing up (and not much different than me). I understood him perfectly.
March 23rd, 20092:55 pm
HD @ 2.32, not only do I remember that series hosted by Robert McNeil, like you I enjoyed it enough that I purchased the companion book as well.
I’ll second your recommendation.
March 23rd, 20092:56 pm
I spent most of my formative years living in Brooklyn, NY.
My accent morphed from Tidewater to Brooklynite. People tell me I still sound like a New Yorker.
I have one sister who still lives in Brooklyn. To me, she sounds like Bugs Bunny

March 23rd, 20092:59 pm
Davo and @@,
This ain’t Jay’s main gig. All he does, in addition putting out a daily newspaper, is feed the fish. You full yet?
March 23rd, 20093:02 pm
“I meant to type NBC. N-B-C….got it?”
Well, the reason I asked is, for all the braying about O’Reilly’s ratings, it’s not like he draws anywhere near as many viewers as a nightly newscast on NBC, which usually gets around eight, nine million or so.
Of course the audiences for both types of shows are — how to put this nicely? — old and dying out, so this is kind of a silly discussion to have.
I think it was our “CommunistAJC” who was in here last week repeating some nonsense about Olbermann only getting 200,000 viewers. I don’t know where this stuff gets started, but it’s not even close to being the truth. KO doesn’t draw O’Reilly’s raw-numbers audience, although his 25-54 ratings aren’t that far off a lot of the time.
Cynthia Tucker McKinney
March 23rd, 20093:24 pm
Keith Ovebite and his show ‘Countdown to no Ratings’ is on its last legs. The numbers for that programs have been in a decline since the immaculation of The Obama, peace be upon him. It seems that without Bush to kick around, Keithy has lost his mojo.
March 23rd, 20093:32 pm
Keith must be doing “something” right.
March 23rd, 20093:34 pm
You wouldn’t answer my questions yesterday so …………. quit wasting your time.
I stand by it. Liberal news organizations have always used “ambusing”.
And I still feel sorry for that E-4 who lives with you.
Let’s try it this way since you are having trouble. You are driving by yourself after having 8 beers on a dark curvy road at night in heavy rain doing 90 mph. You wreck and are seriously injured.
Now you are both the victim and the criminal.
1) Whose fault is it that you wrecked?
2) Should you also be prosecuted to the full extent of the law?
3) Should you be able to sue yourself for stupidity?
Take your time …………..
To Debate 101:
Yes, the nudist in your scenario is responsible for their own stupidity.
Regarding the guy in the Mercedes it depends on why he is there. If he got lost not his fault. If he is there to buy drugs or look for sex …. he bears the responsibility. But as I said, the offender should still bear the full hammer of the law.
March 23rd, 20096:16 pm
Bosch: I am tired of this, but I will respond to the direct questions at 11:40.
When Obama invites Republicans to join him, for a drink, for a meal, whatever; he is pretending that he cares what they believe or what the people they represent believe. That is being being dishonest. That is the definition of pretending.
Bosch, you believe that Obama is the answer. I do not. I cannot endorse most of his efforts because I disagree with them. When he says to me: “Look, we won the election, you need to get on board.” I must reply: “I represent the 46% who did not vote for you, I disagree with you and I must vote their beliefs and my beliefs.
Part II: I am not one of those who label Obama a Socialist. I did before he was sworn in. My son, who is an avowed Socialist, made it clear to me that Obama is not a Socialist. I believe my son on issues like this.
What I fear is worse than Socialism. Is the Obama Administration making a move to take power and authority from the Fed and move it to the President and his Cabinet? The Fed currrently is similar to a 4th branch of government. There is evidence that Obama is trying to end that. The Fed is weaker than they have been since their beginning.
I am unconvinced that Obama is trying to get the private sector up and running again.
