How dare they criticize the mighty O’Reilly?

A couple of points:

1) Left wing news organizations have a history of doing these “ambush” interviews. I don’t care for them either but now that O’Reilly does them it’s all of a sudden a problem? Liberal hypocrisy and the old double standard rears it’s ugly head again ……………

2) Question: We live in a free country. If on a hot August Saturday evening about 11:00pm I decide I want to take a walk by myself down Bankhead Highway with a $100 bill taped to my forehead and a Confederate battle flag on the back of my t-shirt, should I hold any personal responsibility for what happens to me?

Goose (Radical Progressive Left), Gander (Radical Conservative Right).
If you don’t like Goose and Gander use Pot and Kettle.

Either can apply to Bookman or O’Reilly. Except for that little thing called an audience. O’Reilly has about 4 million viewers each day.

So how did the audition go on Friday?

O’Reilly is like anyone newshack at NBC, the only difference is that he actually has an audience. How low are the NBC news ratings this week, can anyone see that far and deep into that hole?

Keith Olbermann is the thug. No wonder he gets crushed by Orielly each night.

On another note, http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123776518094909023.html
this article details how Obama commented on how he inherited a $1T deficit, but he is going to more than double down on that.

And here I thought “thugs” was an Atlanta specific term…guess not.

Thought the following from another blog was a quite accurate description of the current administration –

It’s as if Dr. Seuss had written the script…

We will tax you at your job;
We will tax you as you speak;
we will tax you, helpless mob;
we will tax you ’til you’re weak.

You don’t like this tax you say;
bend o’r and take it anyway!
You bought our line, took the hook,
now your precious liberty we took.

So cry your heart’s out helpless lot,
Our hope in a poke you’ve literally bought!!

The stalking is bad enough, but the original story itself — that O’Reilly really does seem to think that a woman can be “dressed like she was asking for it”, in two thousand and frickin’ nine, is the real outrage.

RW, downstairs you wrote that you were from the NE originally. I did not know that. I’m not from there, as such, but I spent a coupla decades in N. NJ, so if you don’t mind, may I ask the whereabouts for you?

Totally understand if you don’t want to get specific, just wondering.

Also, I can verify that substituting “ax” for “ask” is something I’ve heard from a variety of races and classes up there, for what that’s worth. Of course, if you really want to drive me up a wall, pronounce “Especially” Ecks-specially, or “Et cetera” Eck-cetera.

Also, for what it’s worth, I am familiar with the small, rather prosperous little NJ town whence this young lady, Ms. Moore, who was the victim of a vicious rape and murder, had hailed. It makes me sad to realize that I probably knew people who knew her, and may well have crossed her, or her family’s, path at some point some years ago.

I know I’ll regret asking, but ESR @ 12.41, did you really mean to type “NBC?”

As for O’Reilly’s mighty ratings, I’ll admit that 2.5 million or so viewers is pretty good for cable, although he’s still ranked 15th overall for such programming, well behind Hannah Montana, Wrestling on WWE… but getting closer and closer to Spongebob!

Rush Limbaugh for President:

Ah my friend, thank you! I have just been waiting for the first person to say “you’re blaming the victime” so I can go forward with my next post:

You miss the point. The perpetrator should always receive the full punishment of the law for his actions whether in my analogy it occurred on Bankhead Highway or my front yard . The stupidity of the victim (but only if that is the case) should never come into play regarding the prosecution of the perpetrator. Thus, it is “possible” for a prostitute to be raped if she decides at the last minute she doesn’t like the John.

That said, the stupidity of the victim (depending on the type of stupidity) should come into play regarding any public forum grievance about what happened or the right to sue the perpetrator or anyone else invlolved civilly. You MUST bear some responsibility for your actions.

In other words, I want the perpetrator punished but I don’t want to hear any whining in the case scenario I described or that of a prostitute who is raped after knowingly getting into a car with a horny stranger.

Remember the case of the burglar who had stolen a very heavy television in the middle of the night and as he went down the back steps of the residence, a stairstep cracked, he fell through he broke his leg? He sued civilly and won damages.

I never was sure how that worked. While I spent enough time in the NE to develop something of a northeastern cadence to my speech, my Great Plains childhood keeps me from sounding very “Jersey.” I could probably pass for Southern if I were of a mind to do so.

I liked MA enough the times I’ve visited but hey, if you’re not happy somewhere, no reason to stay.

And another thing… not to pick on RW (or even Davo, for that matter) but when he asks “Isn’t there some real news out there?” — this is a bit puzzling to me.

Most blogs I know of are nothing more than the proprietor’s whims being reflected in a post. As much as I’ve enjoyed, say, Atrios’ joint over the past few years I never expected him to be my one-stop-shopping experience for news and information. Hell, the guy’s latest post is entitled “Lunch Thread,” and it’s nothing more than that headline and a fresh place to dump comments.

D.A.

March 23rd, 2009
1:38 pm

corporal,
Why assume I would not want your answer?

I think the accused should be charged with theft by taking, the prostitute chose to make her body a place of business, since she does not have operating business hours then one could assume that the victim was “on the clock”. Therefor the wealth was affected more than the psychological or physical effects, as many of those same effects could be operating cost of the prostitute’s business.

Is that what you thought my answer would be? How would you classify the crime, and why?

RW-(the original)

March 23rd, 2009
1:38 pm

DB,

It wasn’t really a matter of whether I was happy in MA or not. I moved out when I was three so I didn’t really have a feel for that kind of thing yet.

On your other point, this isn’t really a blog in the traditional sense. According to Jay B it’s a newspaper that’s trying to make the transition to being an online source that happens to publish a print copy. Carrying on a silly vendetta only makes it looks like a traditional blog which will only speed the paper/website’s demise as it gets lost in the weeds.

Joey,

From previous thread -

Thanks, but I know what the definition of “pretend” is, and would you like to actually address what I wrote or continue to dance around the topic?

In case you forgot, I’ll remind you: how is Obama being dishonest or pretending when he has in many cases included Republicans in discussions? In my opinion, the Republicans are not willing to compromise which is completely irrational given that the American people voted them out of the majority, or into the minority, however you want to call it, and are not in the position to get their way completely without some kind of compromise on their part.

Joey? Would you like to address that or do you have another lame definition to throw out instead?

I’ll even give you another topic to discuss: why is it that people such as yourself continue to call Obama a socialist when he has given no indication or carried out any action to suggest that he is trying to make the state in charge of private businesses or revenue – if anything he is trying to get the private sector up and running again.

Corporal, the laws are not written with punishment decided on how smart or dumb the victim is. In your world white people who walk thru black neighborhoods are asking for trouble or vice versa, women who dress sexy are asking to br raped, children who walk home from school alone are asking to be kidnapped,old people who are taken advantage of by slick salesmen deserve it.

You sound like a throw back from the wild west. The times they are a changing and you best try to keep up. Demoted to private.

I agree completely. If Hollywood can’t find somebody with an authentic accent they should drop the attempt. Southernspeak seems to be something you either do naturally or just can’t do at all.

Except that one time in Savannah where a ghost took over my wife to tell another couple, “y’all have a good night, y’all” in a completely authentic southern accent. If you knew her you’d know she would never utter that phrase in a million years much less make it sound right.

I thought it qualified as a grand finale. I mean, they covered a lot of ground with good and evil and history repeating itself and humans being some sort of hybrid and….there were more twists and turns and tangents and what not in there than I ever expected. So what you you asked me is: Why is it being dishonest for Obama to pretend to include Republicans or pretends to be nice to Republicans?

My response was that you did not comprehend my original comment. It is intuitive that “pretending to include or pretending to be nice” is not honest.

So again: why is it dishonest? Because he is pretending, and the definition of pretend: To claim or profess falsely.

Hope this clears it up for you.

I thought they did a good job. I almost had to leave during the battle scene – it was too intense, and I thought that was going to be the whole show – everyone killed, I was glad they gave the audience a sense that everyone was going to be okay. I’d been disappointed if we were left with them still wondering around homeless.

That special effect when Galactica jumped after the battle and it looked like the ship was going to fall apart – I thought, well great, the ship is going to burst into flames and we still have another hour. That was an incredible effect, one of the many good things about that show.

I’m off to the vet then to do yard work (yuck). Later all.
