Greed does not have to exploit others. But that’s the way it’s been done. When it comes to money, morality goes out the window and people will do anything not prohibited by law

There’s the case for regulation.

Hmm…

Per Nancy Pelosi, enforcement of our immigration laws are tearing families apart and, in her words, “un-American.”

Also, according to Eric Holder, existing US gun laws are fomenting the drug wars and killings in Mexico.

Well He11, open the borders and take my guns away! While your at it; increase my taxes to fund mortgage bailouts, Wall Street bailouts, and fund socialized medicine. Better yet, make veterans private insurance pay for their service connected medical conditions.

YES WE CAN! This is CHANGE we can believe in…

For anything written here to have value we first need a definition of greed. Jay that definition should be your responsibility.

Of course this is relevant. Mr. Bookman is challenging people to use what historians call “frame of reference”. The movie “Wall Street” was produced in the 1980′. For those of you that were still in your diapers during that decade, the ’80’s was the time that the Great Communicator was deified. “Supply side economics” was hearalded as a good thing (hence the greed is good intro). We are now experiencing what happens when this economic model is taken to it’s logical conclusion.

Barney Frank actually had a statement that made sense in his opening today. Something to the effect that we should never let people that created a situation be the ones to fix it.

I can’t figure out why the hearing continued after that though.

Off to the forest and I see we’re speed posting today so I’ll see y’all way, way upstairs for happy hour.

There is nothing wrong with striving for success. The reward for becoming successful is many times more money. Am I greedy for wanting the world for my family and doing my best to give it to them? Greed isnt the bad word here… The bad word is ENVY!

That was a good video…You captured the essence of the arguement perfectly and you didn’t even get paid for all your cut-and-paste work. I’m just curious…if you were to put a dollar figure on your effort; what would it be? The reason I ask is that I often find myself wondering what exactly the AJC is doing paying Bookman anything for what is, essentially, not much of anything.

Truth,
I believe you are confusing it with motivation.

–noun excessive or rapacious desire, esp. for wealth or possessions.

Greed suggests getting ahead at the expense of others. Antonym is generosity.

Pride (hubris) is what people succumb to, and are consumed by first.

Excess of pride will lead to arrogance, selfishness, and the six other deadly sins (which includes greed and envy). The Roman empire, one of the strongest nations in the history of civilization, shrouded itself in its own vanity and self-love, and ultimately collapsed because of it. Napoleon and Hitler are also good examples of this.

Pride is considered the worst, because it is said to have been derived from Satan himself. In the original story, Lucifer (Satan), an angel, thought he was better than God’s ultimate creation (man). Because of his excess of pride, Lucifer was cast out of heaven and into hell, where he vowed to get revenge on the Lord by corrupting his creation.

Lust, Greed, and Envy have horrible effects on humans in the long run.

That movie pretty much defined the conservative (Republican) party since at least Reagan’s days. I can just imagine how Reagan came upon the idea to use “trickle down economy” as he hung it out over the balcony on the top floor after one too many drinks. No telling how many little people he hit on his first try.

From downstairs:

“Has anyone ever noticed how the liberals on these threads go back and forth talking to each other all the time, patting each other on the back, pumping each other up, reinforcing their conclusions, etc, etc.”

Corporal, just perhaps it is because, as is the case with my considerable experiences here, the “conservatives” generally make it personal right off the bat, get highly combative and ultimately resort to eighth grade p!ssing contests.

I might add that, you, sir, are the exception.

To wit, yesterday I made a sarcastic (Me? Use sarcasm???) comment about how GWB kept the nation safe from an Islamic armada storming the Jersey shore, etc…

The response from one of the rabid righties here?

“I lost friends at Sandler O’Neill on 9/11. Under normal circumstances, I can pass your muddled, ill-informed, drivel off as the ravings of an off-kilter BDS addled loon.”

“But when you start spitting on the lives and memory of innocent Americans who were svagely killed by the Islamo-facists and the pain felt by their respective familes, I cannot, nay will not, remain silent while you bay at some imaginary moon.”

“You are despicable and, I am quite certain, someone who neither understands nor has lived a life full of honor.”

Then to cap things off nicely: “It is that you are that which I scrape off my shoes.”

Talk about a complete disconnect from reality and what I wrote! I never impugned any Americans for those lives lost on that horrific day. I leave that sort of thing to the Jerry Falwells and Ann Coulters of the world.

I realize that reality-challenged bloggers with enormous lack of critical thinking skills, a basic command of standard written English and basic self-control is part of the equation here. But I have VERY little hope that in most cases these self-professed Representatives of the Right-wing are now anything much but hopelessly adrift in a time and place they can no longer relate to.

And so strike out at their endless imaginary foes.

But that is not my concern. And I am not being paid to help them sort through these obvious personal problems…

Off to pay for the bailouts, the occupation and the bonuses.

Later, all…

Lockheed Martin tells President Teleprompter to stick it.

Intel, Lockheed Tell Obama on Taxes, F-22: Not in This Economy.

That’s Intel Corp.’s argument against new taxes on overseas income. It’s Overstock.com Inc.’s objection to making unions easier to form. Ditto Lockheed Martin Corp.’s case against scrapping production of the F-22 jet.

U.S. companies are stepping up their fight against President Barack Obama’s proposals not aimed squarely at reviving the economy. They say Obama is trying to do too much, taking the focus off fixing credit markets and proposing ideas that may hurt rather than help.

“There are so many priorities that there is no priority,” said Bruce Josten, the chief lobbyist for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the largest business lobbying group. “There is nothing more important than fixing the housing and financial markets.” Obama “is saying we can do it all at once.”

Making an issue of an economy that shrank 6.2 percent last quarter, the steepest plunge in 27 years, is a potent strategy that may derail Obama’s agenda on issues from taxes to climate change, said Jeffrey Berry, a professor of political science who specializes in lobbying at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts.

“It’s a strategic argument, well-designed and well- timed,” Berry said. While companies typically say the timing is bad as they try to stall proposals, “it’s much more effective now in the depths of this recession.”

Analysis: White House, Dems backpedaling on AIG
Analysis: AIG bonuses have Democrats reeling, unable to blame Bush; Republicans go on offense

WASHINGTON (AP) — For the first time since last fall’s election, Democrats and the Obama administration are backpedaling furiously on an issue easily understood by financially strapped taxpayers: $165 million in bonuses paid out at bailed-out AIG.

Republicans, struggling to regain their political footing, are content to let Democrats try to dig their way out of this mess on their own.

Professing shock at the bonus payments, Democrats have embarked on a hurry-up effort to impose what amounts to confiscatory taxes on the bonuses, a maneuver that almost surely will be tested in the courts.

Obama Bent on America’s Destruction

By: David Limbaugh

don’t use the term “Marxist,” in connection with President Barack Obama’s policies, lightly or even to inflame, but to express my genuine fear that if we don’t put the brakes on his agenda to remake America in his image, we’ll end up both enslaving and bankrupting America by the end of his tenure.

Perhaps conservatives used the term “Marxist,” “socialist,” or even “commie” too loosely on some occasions to describe the liberals’ political sympathies, but that debatable question now seems moot, given our new president’s overt contempt for capitalism.

This guy makes Bill Clinton look like John Birch, and yet to this day, few Democrats have dissociated from him. So where are the Democrats who have always professed their conservatism?
