Today I received an email from someone accusing me of plagiarism. The reason is that over 1000 sites, including yours, have published my article Understanding Obama http://www.faithfreedom.org/obama.html and have erroneously attributed it to Dr. Vaknin.
Please correct this error A.S.A.P. and provide a link to the original article in my site. Dr. Vaknin had no part in this article. I merely quoted him as a reference. And also please correct the article. I was NOT impressed with Obama, whereas your version says “I was.” I suppose whoever started this was drunk, now it is all over the Internet spreading like viral infection.
Thank you

Michael Smith, re your arguments: The guy working for a living IS risking his capital--his body, his time, his life. So that one is specious.

Your number 2: the man who "works for a living" could quite WELL be creating jobs. He could be the small or large business owner. Specious.

Your number 3: Both the man who "works for a living" and the "investor" are free to do whatever they wish with the proceeds they receive. So that one is bogus, too.

Game, set, match, Michael.

On your note that most money is taken to give as handouts to people who don't earn it. Wrong again. While a portion of taxes go as "handouts" (AFDC, Medicaid, Medicare, SSSI, Pell Grant), most go for such "silly" things as roads, courts and jails, schools, the armed services, quality inspectors (food, air, water)--you know, those "handouts" we ALL benefit from.

Is there such a thing as STRIKE FOUR?

I don't think too many conseratives would be upset if you want to increase taxes on the top 400 earners in the US. Problem is that your thesis that these people get most of their income from investments doesn't work for the vast majority of the people who make over $150,000 a year which is the latest definition of rich from Obama and Biden.

blue girl in a red state @ 14:23 pm - Good allusion to the devastating effects of fallacious "free" trade agreements like NAFTA (CAFTA, GATT, etc.). NAFTA has gutted the U.S. manufacturing base & serves as the key bolstering point for the forthcoming North American Union (NAU/SPP). Outsourcing and insourcing (H-1B visa workers) have displaced far too many American workers/jobs. The U.S. based Corporations have little (or no) allegiance to American workers & are solely Globalist minded. These so-called "free" trade agreements also undermine U.S. sovereignty.

I just have to shake my head at you people who try to explain the current economic disaster by looking at the last 30 days, or 2 years, or even 15 years. The guilded age of the early 20th century, with its uber rich robber barons eventually led to the stock market crash in 1929 and the great depression. It was years in the making. This mess is no different. It took the labor movement in the 30s, along with banking reform and the New Deal to save the country. This also took years. The graduated income tax of the 50s and 60s did not cause any shortage of rich people, did it? But, since the Reagan administration, every bit of banking and investment regulation has been systematically dismantled. The mergers of the 1980s brought back monopolies. Where there used to be thousands of banks, now there are only a few. Same with the media. Walmart has forced millions of small companies out of business. We see now that the accounting practices used at Enron and Arthur Andersen were small potatoes compared to what investment bankers on Wall Street have been doing. Both Democrats and Republicans allowed this to happen. Both parties have taken corporate money and failed to represent their constituents. The passage of NAFTA and the off-shoring of millions of jobs is a national disgrace. America used to be self-sustaining. Everything you could possibly want was produced right here. Not anymore. Now, American jobs consist of either selling insurance to one another, or some type of servant position. The average CEO's pay is something like 800 times as much as the worker receives. Taking inflation into account, working people's earnings have virtually remained about the same as they were in the 70s. Even the token raise in the minimum wage of $28 a week said to be too much! Conservatives ask why we should go after the rich . . . well, that IS WHERE THE MONEY IS! I cannot feel sorry for someone making 500K a year being asked to live on 400K a year. What, they might only get to spend on 10K on a birthday party instead of 20K? Boo-hoo. You can talk all you want about wealth envy and Atlas Shrugged, but millions of people are struggling to keep the heat on in their homes and food on the table. The labor movement in the 30s was a very violent era. People DIED IN THE STREETS fighting for the chance to make a living wage. The relationship between management and labor is symbiotic, and needs to have checks and balances. When management gets something they want, then labor should also get something, that is only fair. When it is as unbalanced as it is now it is just like a Monopoly game. When one player gets all the money, the game is over.

Bush wanted to privatize SS and dump the money into the stock market to have the “Brains” and firms like Lehman Bros., Merrill Lynch, and Bear Stearns “manage” our retirement safety net.

The good people of America laughed that proposal right out the door and with good reason.

Could you imagine the number of people on soup lines now from companies like Enron and WorldComm that lost all their retirement savings and then went on to see their SS flushed by the “Brains” on Wall Street?

Good plan, George. But he doesn’t have to worry, he has a government retirement plan that he hasn’t had to do anything to get.

George W. Bush - Worst President Ever!

In a rare moment, I agree with Jay.

We should not be punishing working people with an unfair tax system.

The person who makes $60,000 in wages should not have his income taxed.
Nor should the person who invests his money (that he worked for) that makes $60,000 in returns.

One of the more frightening prospects of income taxation is that elected officials and the government gets to determine what is fair and equitable. Thus, someone who earns $250,000 in San Francisco is determined to be "rich," taxed at the same rate as that $250k earner in Macon.

So what's the best way to make the taxation of workers fair? Simple: tax their consumption.

Yeah, Dave R, tell me in your semi-delusional world how "making satisfactory progress" is the same as being met (to comply with; fulfill; satisfy)?

Apparently they mean the exact same thing to you. Or do I err in that assessment? I thought not.

Just curious how the "conservative" parrot's brain works.

No big whoop, Dave, the entire debacle as orchestrated by the Hero of the Texas ANG was based on lies, misinformation and deceit. Why stop now...
