So … what’s your problem with Pelosi?
I’d like to understand something that only our conservative posters can probably explain:
What’s your issue with Nancy Pelosi?
Seriously.
Yes, she’s a Democrat. I get that. Yes, she’s from San Francisco. And yes, I understand the political usefulness of casting her as a real-life Emmanuel Goldstein, an Object of Hate. That was particularly true back before the Democrats had such an obvious party leader in President Obama.
But I’d like to see specific things that Pelosi has said or done that might justify the level of vilification directed at her, because as far as I can tell it’s vastly out of scale to her alleged crimes.
For example, I regularly get emails containing a collection of outrageous statements by Pelosi, but when you read those quotes and try to trace them back to their source, they all turn out to be fake.
If you have to fabricate quotations in order to justify hating someone, doesn’t that kind of tell you something?

UPDATE: Well, as of 6:30, with roughly 30 comments logged, I’ve got what I expected: Expressions of hatred, but no explanation for it. No specific act or statement to justify it. Just variations on “I can’t stand her!”
So it remains a mystery. Won’t somebody solve it for me?

She is a bleeding heart liberal who runs an organization that has an approval less than Bush’s when he left office…. just over 30%. That means that 70% of the country feels, to some degree, the same way as I do. She is arrogant, overbearing and dictatorial. She reminds me of Cynthia McKinney. Is that not enough?

You highlighted a couple – Democrat and San Francisco, which would probably be enough even if you did leave out extremely hyper-partisan and liberal as two other identifiers that highlight her automatically as a target for anger and bitterness. Add the fact that, so long as President Obama allows her to craft bad legislation that he simply co-opts as a defacto signatory, she is effectively the face of the kook liberal fringe of the Democratic Party that is so ridiculously out of touch with mainstream America – you have all the more explanation.
Followed up with the fact that she, in that role, is the face of blame for all Americans who are sick and tired of having government confiscate 30-40% of our earnings to fund transfer payments and programs that people should provide for themselves. To those Americans, she is simply the face of the thief who steals more of what we earn than any mob of muggers could ever take.
I would contend that her position (along with Senator Reid) is well-deserved. On the flip side, if she were to graciously quit writing & passing legislation that presumes she knows better how my time, money, and talents should be kept or spent than I do, I would be happy to reconsider my current opinion of her.

As usual the wingnutters have resorted to ignorant and idiot as terms to assess Pelosi and that was precisely why Jay asked the question. They explain nothing and entrench the nutters into their daily role of whining because they lost and they’re going to lose big.
A lot of liberals aren’t happy with Pelosi because of her eggregious stance on FISA (you remember that Jay–you have to read other sources besides the one you editorial board to get insight into what happened) and Pelosi’s sympathy towards the cowardly Blue Dog Dems with respect to FISA) and her lack of a backbone when it came to opposing Bush during the last two years.
If you keep score, Jay, the Dems rubber stamped Bush on nearly every important vote in Congress during the last two years and Pelosi was a considerable influence and participant in this display of spinelessness.

I would like to second the hope that tax violator Palin run for any national office. She has neglected every essential issue in Alaska since her quick 15 minutes of fame that revealed she has little grasp of any issue relevant to national governing, lashed out at the modality of research that is currently the #1 modality of research for children like her latest Trisomy 21 baby, and is allowing people to starve in Alaska because she is more concerned with her absurd fantasy that she can gain any national office.
Palin against Obama in 2012 with or without Jindal or any other dead man walking would be like someone with no arms competing against an NFL quaterback.
The state of Alaska is now in the process of collecting her back taxes according to ADN and they should prosecute her for tax evasion.

Iran holds enough uranium for bomb

Iran has now built up a stockpile of enough enriched uranium for one nuclear bomb, United Nations officials acknowledged on Thursday.
In a development that comes as the Obama administration is drawing up its policy on negotiations with Tehran over its nuclear programme, UN officials said Iran had produced more nuclear material than previously thought.
They said Iran had now accumulated more than one tonne of low enriched uranium hexafluoride at a facility in Natanz. If such a quantity were further enriched it could produce more than 20kg of fissile material – enough for a bomb.
“It appears that Iran has walked right up to the threshold of having enough low enriched uranium to provide enough raw material for a single bomb,” said Peter Zimmerman, a former chief scientist of the US Arms Control and Disarmament Agency
The new figures come in a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN’s nuclear watchdog, released on Thursday.
This revealed that Iran’s production of low enriched uranium had previously been underestimated.
When the agency carried out an annual stocktaking of Natanz in mid-November Iran had produced 839 kg of low enriched uranium hexafluoride – more than 200kg more than previously thought.

Pelosi is far from “coming together”. She is about as blindly partisan as any politico on the hill and is proud of it. Her edict to House Democrats about opposing “anything” that Bush puts forward is a testament to her determination to make every decision and every piece of legislation as liberal and as left leaning as she can. She has a personal fortune of about 26M which is virtually untouchable by any form of investment. So she can sit on top of the hill and give away our money as much as she wants. And there’s not a damn thing we can do about it.

Anyone who celebrates (not calls, but CELEBRATES) the so-called stimulus bill as “transformational” is a danger to liberty and individuality.
Any Speaker of the House who travels to the Middle East to practice foreign policy without the approval of the Executive Branch, as she did, is a danger to America. There are no powers enumerated in the Constitution that enables the Legislative Branch to conduct foreign policy – none.

a) I’m happy to discuss any issue and it’s fine that you disagree with every stance I take.
b) You have not demonstrated you can discuss an issue or that you grasp any of them from what I’ve seen.

Do you have any issues domestic or foreign you’re capable of bringing to the table and discussing?
Jay already knew about the venom for Pelosi. You don’t help him understand its intensity by referencing your fantasy of her plastic surgery, her outfits (the average cost of them is about $5 grand but who cares there), or reiterating you don’t like her.
Jay’s question was specifically what don’t you like about her.
Cantor, Boehner, and McConnel have to date displayed a terrible grasp of the economy and have no real significant economic agenda or policy besides tax cuts and politically guessing that the economy will be slow to recover and hoping it can somehow stave off a disaster in 2010. It won’t.
But no one on the left cares whether Boehner or McConnel or Cantor has plastic surgery, or any other medical procedure or what they look like.
Can’t you focus on an issue–rather than childish fantasy over appearance or surgery? What does plastic surgery or appearance have to do with governing?
Is Congress measured by how many of their pics show up in OK Magazine?
