Is it spring?! Good-bye Snow Mountain, hello Six Flags!

sixflags1

Spring is coming! That's Goliath running at Six Flags Over Georgia. The park opens for weekends-only on March 6, just a day before Snow Moutain closes for the season. AJC file photo

Nevermind the Vernal Equinox, Daylight Savings Time, the Braves home opener or whatever date came printed in your 2010 calendar: spring starts in Atlanta next weekend.

What clearer proof do we need that spring is coming to Atlanta than this:

  • Six Flags Over Georgia opens on March 6.
  • Snow Mountain, Stone Mountain Park’s annual sledding, fort-building, marshmallow-toasting attraction, closes on March 7.

Or maybe it’s just another testament to our crazy weather and seasonal uncertainty. I choose to believe that it means Gen. Beauregard Lee was right.

So what to expect from that first weekend in March?

Six Flags has some new shows and new shops, but it’s big new attraction for the year is actually over at Six Flags White Water in Marietta, where Wiggles Water World will open this summer. Still, to celebrate the coaster park’s opening, mascot Mr. Six will be dancing all over Atlanta March 1-5. His whereabouts will be announced on Star 94, and those that spot him have a chance to win a trip for two to any Six Flags theme park in the continental United States.

Look for Snow Mountain to be busy — you can reserve your playtime beforehand — because it’s actually a really fun time. Still, I’m sure they’ll be happy to watch all the snow melt, for once.

I’ve been going to Six Flags for 20 years and have never had a bad experience. Try being nice to people when they should be nice to you. It works!

I worked for Disney World a few years ago. I will never go back to Six Flags. The people are so rude.

I think we have to keep things all in perspective. The majority of these teenagers are going through a fashion fad. I know we had one in my day and looking back on it, I’m not too thrilled to view the pics. I think the difference is, parents should allow their children to express themselves, but if the clothing is imitation thug life style and their kids are not, they must use creative tools to get their children to march to the beat of a different drummer. Happy Friday!

Hey folks, please stay on topic, show some respect for each other and keep the conversation moving forward. Hope you all have a great weekend!

If you get there early, you will not have to see all of that, Brian. Teenages get there later in the later any way after 3pm. So if you what to go to Six Flags get there early.

Bev, did Brian offend you? Perhaps you should teach your children better then he won’t make fun of them.

I wonder if Six Flags will still be filled with the same rude baggy pants punks running around like monkeys escaped from the zoo.
