A confession: I haven’t participated in any of the free art walks around here, but I like the possibilities when I see the words free, art and walk together in a sentence. And my, do we have a lot of them.
Fellow AJCer Jill Vejnoska apparently devoted a decent chunk of a month to noshing on gallery cookies and wine in plastic cups. Ahh, the sacrifices we make for such stories: “Monthly strolls put art districts on display.”
She visited and compared the First Thursdays Downtown Arts Walk in Atlanta, the First Friday Artwalk in Marietta, the 3rd Saturday Art Walk in the Westside Arts District and 4th Friday Art Stroll in Castleberry Hill — what makes them different, what the ads don’t tell you, who skips out on the adult beverages.
It’s a handy guide, but still, I know there are more. In the past, Creative Loafing wrote about the Studioplex art stroll in Atlanta, Decatur Metro mentioned the city’s ArtWalk, and the Athens Banner-Herald wrote up an AthFest gallery walk
