Looks like a beautiful weekend for hockey in Atlanta

Another busy weekend of Thrashers hockey is upon us gang, and a quick look at the weather reports shows we’ll be greeted with some decent weather in which to enjoy it. The cold front has passed through and temps will be in the mid 60s today and tomorrow, 70 with some clouds Sunday. That should make for a very pleasant environment for all who are gathering in front of Taco Mac prior to tonight’s and Sunday’s game.

Also helping to make this a nice weekend is the story Chris Vivlamore has been working on. If you haven’t already seen this, our fine Thrashers beat writer is informing us that there “are two investment groups that are progressing in an effort to buy the Hawks, Thrashers and Philips Arena and will keep the Thrashers in Atlanta”. That would be great news indeed.

I have little more information on this situation than what you know, so keep an eye on C-Viv as he’ll keep us up to date.

Hopefully we’ll also be able to talk about a couple of wins as the weekend progresses. Florida pays us a visit tonight and the Toronto Maple Leafs are in town Sunday. If you’ve taken a glance at the NHL standings, you know the Leafs have moved past the Thrashers into tenth place in the Eastern Conference, one point ahead of Atlanta. The Panthers sit just three points behind us with 57 and have that all-important game in hand. So as you can see, if there does remain any chance to get back into the playoff picture, this is the time to get it going.

Not much else to add on my end except to say this will be a busy weekend for me as well. I’ll be at the game tonight, then it’s another Saturday with the younger tax-exemption at an NJROTC rifle match before returning to Philips on Sunday. Because of that, I wanted to post up this short blog to at least give you all a place to discuss the games without it getting lost behind the almost 300 comments on the previous post.

Speaking of that last post…obviously I knew in posting such a blog as such would bring out many fans who disagreed with my point of view. It’s to be expected. Given the current play by the team and how the season has taken a downward turn, I thought the subject at least needed to be addressed.

Not surprisingly, however, is how the vast majority of you were able to make your counter-points to my opinion is a mature, respectful and thoughtful perspective. That’s what I’ve grown to appreciate about all of you out there…and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

As I said in the comment section of that blog, nothing would give me greater pleasure than to have to eat a big plate of crow in 5 or 6 weeks time. If I do, I assure you it will be done with a huge smile on my face. But the Thrashers are going to have to turn things around and do so fast, and this weekend would be a great time to start.

See you all at Philips tonight Thrasherville!

Hey Bill – your a big bag of worthless hot air! Just had to get that in seeing you were praising us. Keep up the good work.

Let’s win tonight and sunday. What kind of sauce would you like on your crow?

We’re in 202 tonight with the RAWHIDE package so we’ll look you up!

GO THRASHERS!!! I hope they make a move before the trade deadline to acquire a power forward, at least to make it look like we are trying to get back in 8th place.

If Atlanta acquires any players on Monday, it should be a smoother transition against a diminished Senators and Panthers roster, and then 4 days off until Carolina on March 9th.

You all smell that? That’s the smell of 4 big points hanging out there for the Thrashers to win. Now, go get them boys! There’s still a chance to turn this sucker around!

Question for everyone out there: Given the team’s recent slide but that there is still time to get back into things, what would you rather have happen if given a chice – 1). an 8th place finish and a date with the Flyers, or 2). a lottery pick to help the future?

I still want the playoff spot and a chance at winning now.

Thoughts/discuss.

Now that there is (possible) good news about the Thrashers staying in town hopefully all other distractions take the weekend off and allow our boys to extract their craniums from their rectums as recent play has shown “Extreme Cornhole-on-shoulder” disease. Hopefully any trolls who aren’t Atlanta based will jump off their bridges today.
LETS GO THRASHERS!

Hoof – remember we swept the Flyers last year. They are better this year but they slipped into the playoffs and made it to the finals. Anything is possible once the “real season” starts.

Oh, and make it BBQ sauce please…the spicier the better.

Hoof Arted – My position has always been to do everything you can do to get into the playoffs now. Like Montreal and Philly showed us last spring, if you’re in you have a chance.

I’ll chose option #1, thank you.

At this point in Thrashy’s life, a playoff berth is way more important than a pick that would spend at least a year in the minors. We have the cap room to buy the talent we need and making it to the playoffs will sweeten the pot for any potential prospect – hands down. Make the push, kick a$$ and fans, be freaking LOUD! I wish I could be there to see the epic rebound that is going to happen.

Loved waking up to a very positive story by C Viv, lets get the ball rolling and you know that GB will push this to his “top priority” box. He hates A$$G and wants nothing more than to keep a 6-mill-plus size market. If the prospects decide they want to do it, GB will have lawyers and accountants working around the clock to finish this fast. Sorry ‘Peg, it doesn’t look like you will get us. I am elated at the prospect, but as passionate as you are you should have a team. No ill-will towards my bruthas from the north, but we love our hockey too!

One last comment. What are the Hawks going to do when the new ownership doesn’t funnel Thrashy’s $$$ to the Hawks?

Are You Serious?

HA – The only reason you play the game is to win the Cup. You can’t win the Cup unless you make the playoffs.

Get in and win! That’s the montra for the rest of this season.

Great moments are born from great opportunity

And that’s what you have here tonight Thrashers fans

That’s why you are here… tonight

One Team

If we played ten seasons, we might miss the playoffs nine

But not this team, Not tonight

Tonight, we FIGHT WITH THEM.

Tonight, we stand for OUR TEAM and we shut the Winnipeg fans down because we can.

Tonight, we are the greatest hockey town in the world

You were born to be Thrasher fans….every one of you

And you were meant to be here tonight

This is your time

Their time is done. The Spirit Group is over.

I’m sick and tired of hearing about what a great hockey town Winnipeg has

SCREW’EM

Just an FYI apparently kincade will be giving out some more info in referenceto these ownership issues on his show. If someone else has already mentioned this oops.

However it is a big weekend and all the rest and maybe just maybe these hints of real ownership and real stability will help to calm the team done and let them focus.

As far as this years draft blahh. Not hearing nearly as much about it this year at this time as I was last year. From several locations they are basically saying it’s gona be an ok but nothing spectacular draft. Screw it trademfor the immediate future using this years stuff. Well as long as it still benefits us next year that is. Let’s have a real playoff run.

TruthHurts- I don’t think most of us ever said Kovy or Moose was bad players. In Kovy’s case he was not much of a team player here and from everything I have read and heard he has not been much of one in NJ either. Now, maybe he has turned over a new leaf! What’s your point?

TDawg >> (1) It is quite amazing (to me) that NJ is but a mere 4 points behind ATL today and at the end of it all if NJ finishes higher than ATL, well, there are no excuses for that (2) They (NJ) are gittin’ it dun where Stapleton, Mason, Bergfors, et. al. ain’t. Back to Kovy, one person does not make a team and, like you said, if his leaf has turned over, well good on him. But I never understood some of the intense hostility directed at Kovalchuk. Probably, my fault. These are more like “rounded” points, as such. :-) Anyways, traveling time awaits, see you at the game
