Another busy weekend of Thrashers hockey is upon us gang, and a quick look at the weather reports shows we’ll be greeted with some decent weather in which to enjoy it. The cold front has passed through and temps will be in the mid 60s today and tomorrow, 70 with some clouds Sunday. That should make for a very pleasant environment for all who are gathering in front of Taco Mac prior to tonight’s and Sunday’s game.
Also helping to make this a nice weekend is the story Chris Vivlamore has been working on. If you haven’t already seen this, our fine Thrashers beat writer is informing us that there “are two investment groups that are progressing in an effort to buy the Hawks, Thrashers and Philips Arena and will keep the Thrashers in Atlanta”. That would be great news indeed.
I have little more information on this situation than what you know, so keep an eye on C-Viv as he’ll keep us up to date.
Hopefully we’ll also be able to talk about a couple of wins as the weekend progresses. Florida pays us a visit tonight and the Toronto Maple Leafs are in town Sunday. If you’ve taken a glance at the NHL standings, you know the Leafs have moved past the Thrashers into tenth place in the Eastern Conference, one point ahead of Atlanta. The Panthers sit just three points behind us with 57 and have that all-important game in hand. So as you can see, if there does remain any chance to get back into the playoff picture, this is the time to get it going.
Not much else to add on my end except to say this will be a busy weekend for me as well. I’ll be at the game tonight, then it’s another Saturday with the younger tax-exemption at an NJROTC rifle match before returning to Philips on Sunday. Because of that, I wanted to post up this short blog to at least give you all a place to discuss the games without it getting lost behind the almost 300 comments on the previous post.
Speaking of that last post…obviously I knew in posting such a blog as such would bring out many fans who disagreed with my point of view. It’s to be expected. Given the current play by the team and how the season has taken a downward turn, I thought the subject at least needed to be addressed.
Not surprisingly, however, is how the vast majority of you were able to make your counter-points to my opinion is a mature, respectful and thoughtful perspective. That’s what I’ve grown to appreciate about all of you out there…and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.
As I said in the comment section of that blog, nothing would give me greater pleasure than to have to eat a big plate of crow in 5 or 6 weeks time. If I do, I assure you it will be done with a huge smile on my face. But the Thrashers are going to have to turn things around and do so fast, and this weekend would be a great time to start.
See you all at Philips tonight Thrasherville!
