NHL Trade Deadline-A-Palooza 2010

Well kids…its Wednesday March 3, 2010 and NHL Trade Deadline-A-Palooza 2010 is reaching its much-anticipated climax. Here in Thrasherville, we’ve already witnessed a few moves already by the organization…the trade that brought in Evgeny Artyukhin from the Ducks Monday night and the signing of Chris Chelios Tuesday. And while the Chelios move wasn’t necessarily a “trade”…it may be the precursor of something that will come down later today.

Does it mean somebody like Pavel Kubina or Ron Hainsey is being shipped out, and Chelios is heading this way to fill the roster spot? Or is it like what Don Waddell said…he’s simply there in case of an emergency situation. I guess time will tell.

As the day progresses, I will update this blog post with news related to any Thrashers trades and or any other news of interest. It’ll be down below under the heading “Trade Deadline Updates”.

Oh, and let’s not forget last night’s 4-2 win against the Panthers…a game that saw Todd White score the game-winner on the power play during the third period. I guess Whitey picked a pretty good spot to net his one goal for the month of March, wouldn’t you say?

Johan Hedberg stopped 34 of 36 shots to earn win number 15 on the season… Rich Peverley scored the games opening goal, his nineteenth of the season…and two players that many have speculated  will not be residents of Thrasherville after today also scored, Armstrong and Kubina.

With the win, Atlanta moved Atlanta into tenth in the east over Tampa Bay, who were thumped by Philly 7-2 Tuesday night. The Thrashers are but one point behind the Rangers and Boston, who hold 8th and 9t place in the Eastern Conference as the Bruins lost 4-1 to Montreal and New York beat Ottawa by the same score.

So with that…let’s sit back and watch as today’s NHL Trade Deadline-A-Palooza unfolds during what could be a very interesting day indeed.

TRADE DEADLINE UPDATES

:!: 10:45 am – Per Ben Wright’s twitter…”Despite Chelios signing, just told that Thrashers are not interested at all in dealing Pavel Kubina”

:!: 12:41 pm – Per c-viv’s twitter…”Slava Kozlov says he may play in KHL next year if not in NHL”.

:!: 2:39 pm - Thrashers and Sabres make a trade. To Atlanta, forward Clarke MacArthur…to Buffalo, 3rd and 4th round pick.

Dang, that stinks lilibeter. No TSN! Guess you’re blocked from most sports sites then. Can you get twitter on your PC? Try following Bob MacKenzie or http://twitter.com/DarrenDreger

Double D and Bob Mac are usually in sync.

Smoothie – yes it bothered me. Not that it may or may not be true, but that he would “out it” in such a way. He’s mad at Waddell over what DW said about Kovalchuk, but seems to be taking it out on JA.

lilibeter – have you tried Puck daddy’s chatter box?

According to Chris V – no trades are imminent for the Thrashers.

Wonder why Hainsey was pulled off the ice from practice – are we trying to move him?

Table – as of 1 pm that is. No way we don’t do at least one more deal. I’m thinking two more, but I could be wrong! I would think Colby’s price is going up since there aren’t a lot of quality wingers out there.

WM… Kozlov said the trade had to make sense, and he would go to a team that could use him… so, I think he’ll need to approve something.

Have the TSN app downloaded. Thanks for that tip!

Wonder what my husband’s going to do when he turns on his phone and reads that Cam Ward got traded to the Ducks…OOOPS! Fortunately the correction to Aaron ward is only a few texts below that one.

question for anyone who can answer. I’ve been away for a while and unable to keep up with all the blogs, so maybe I missed something.

Alan Muir in his last power ranking intimated that Colby had fallen out of favor with John Anderson. I had not seen anything about that and it seemed to me that he’s been perfect on that line with Kane and Slater. Was there a rumor or story that was reported in the last couple of weeks that supports Muir?

Christy – first I’ve heard other than the various folks on twitter suggesting that we can’t get Army to resign.

Watch us trade Hainsey for Sheldon Souray and move Schubert up to fwd to play with Arty and Thorburn. Yikes, how’d you like to play against a line with a combined 710 lbs of beef!

Belanger for a you guessed it , a second round pick.

Well, things are picking up now. Belly’s back in the SE Div…WSH brings in Belanger. Wow, they are even deeper down the middle now. Still not addressing their blueline, which could be their demise IMO.

Tampa gives up Halpern to LA for Purcell and a 3rd rounder.

If Halpern is bringing that, surely Colby can net a player prospect and a 2nd rounder!

This is sort of Kovalchuks last “screw you” to ATL – as far as I know we weren’t negotiating with other UFAs while we were trying to resign Kovy. Now we have several players that I would be willing to keep if we can resign them but do we really know if we can resign them? Kubina, Armstrong, and Max – will they resign? If not we should get something for them.

Seriously, does anybody have any proof that Colby Armstrong won’t stay? The only truth I see in it is what I noted before — he signed a short contract because he feels undervalued. So if the money is right, there should be no problem.

AHM just acquired G Curtis McElhinney from CGY. Hmmm, does that mean Sutter is in the market for Cory Schneider since VAN wants a vet top 4 D-man? Could Regher be on the market?

Guy from sportsnet.ca tweets: “Offers Thrashers are getting not strong enough for Colby Armstrong. Waddell now thinking of keeping him for playoff push”

Doesn’t say anything about Colby’s intentions. Colby will at least want to test the market…why not?
